WWL will be scaling back the "Eyewitness Morning News" starting December 5. Currently airing 4:30 - 9 am, it will run from 4:30 - 7 am.
That same day, "CBS Morning News" - currently airing on WUPL - will air on WWL from 7-9 am.

Found this newscast from November 1980...right after the election that Reagan won. Check out the open. Never heard nor seen that open before. I did send it to NMSA.

John Mahaffey, longtime anchor for WAFB and then WBRZ, passed away Friday after surgery to remove a tumor from his bladder. He was 77.

The media will do anything for free food.
You're right about the free food. But the town's got a history of stiffing the public when it comes to public records requests.
And you can only fine White Castle burgers in the grocery stores down here.

WBRZ reporter Chris Nakamoto was arrested Wednesday and given a summons after refusing to leave the White Castle's town hall while trying to get info about the mayor's pay raise and a public records request. The station stands by him.

That's a good one!! I loved watching Bert from junior high to high school whenever I came to Jackson and at Jackson State. There was no one else like him in Mississippi. I'm sure gonna miss him.

When WVUE was an ABC affiliate, it was stuck in third place. I guess ABC was/is a non-factor in New Orleans. From Wikipedia:
Nope. It was horrible ownership WVUE had as an ABC affiliate. They switched owners two or three times in the 80s and 90s.

I see Rachel Wulf has joined WWL. She anchored the Sunday morning newscast. I guess her non-compete clause was up.

WVUE announced last night on the 10 pm newscast that former WWL and WFOR meteorologist David Bernard will join the station next month. No word yet on what shift he will do.

WAPT reporter Bert Case is critical condition at Saint Dominic's Hospital in Jackson, Miss. hospital recovering from sepsis. No word on how long his recovery will be.

Was there discussion on WEAR updated logo seems it been like this for a several months. Thoughts? The bird still flying next to the three.
Can't ditch the bird...that's pretty iconic.

Former WWL general manager J. Michael Early passed away today at age 99. He took the GM position in 1961 and guilded the station until 1998. He pretty much was the reason Channel 4 has been top rated in New Orleans since the late 1970s.

It must be a Raycom thing, because WLOX's Web site does have a page dedicated to the anniversary called "Life Beyond Katrina", as well as WAFB. I haven't seen anything as far as programming...yet.

Katrina's 10th anniversary is later this month and the Big Four NOLA stations plan to do something (all times Central).
* WWL - an hour long special at 7pm August 20, "Katrina: 10 Days, 10 Years", hosted by Mike Hoss and Karen Swenson. Other programming will air at 6:30 pm August 24-28. Recently retired anchor Dennis Woltering will also do stories for the station August 24-28. The same week, the morning show will go live from a different location during the 8 am hour. The station's Web page has a page dedicated to the storm's anniversary.
* WDSU - They began their anniversary coverage August 3, dubbed "Katrina: 10 Years Forward." A number of two-to-three minute stories are airing during the 5 and 6 pm newscasts. Starting August 24, there will be half-hour specials airing each night at 6:30 pm. A one-hour special will air August 29, "Chronicle: Children of Katrina." The station's Web page does have a page dedicated to the anniversary.
* WVUE - The station actually started coverage of the anniversary in the spring, dubbed "Life Beyond Katrina." Two specials are planned: "Life Beyond Katrina: The Big Comeback", at 10:35 pm August 27. It will be hosted by sports director Juan Kincaid and will show how sports have aided in the area's recovery. On August 28, "Life Beyond Katrina: Stories Of Strength" airs a 6 pm is about the area's recovery in general. It's Web page also has a page dedicated to the anniversary.
* WGNO - Newscast coverage begins August 24. Two specials are planned: "Katrina: Looking Forward" at 10 pm August 28, hosted by Susan Roesgen and Curt Sprang. It will look at where things stand now and where the area is headed in the future. "Katrina Remembered" will air at 6 pm and 10 pm August 29th. It's supposed to highlight the many events across the region that mark the anniversary. Its Web page has no section dedicated to the recovery.

We've lost two big veterans in New Orleans news. Last week, it was former WWL forecaster/announcer Don Westbrook. Today, we all learned that Andre Trevigne, formerly of WWL-TV's Eyewitness Morning News, WGNO's evening newscasts, WWL Radio and WRNO-FM died yesterday at a NOLA-area hospice. She was 66.

WBRZ reporter Brett Buffington was arrested May 28 and booked with interfering with a police investigation and for intimidating an officer.
He allegedly ignored officers' requests to infringe too much on a burglary scene so he wouldn't disturb police dogs, according to the police report. He refused and began taking photos with a flash. Buffington was then detained in a police car for a while and then told he was free to go.
According to the police report, Buffington told a cop "Hope you enjoy the rest of your career." The cop took that to mean that Buffington would have him fired and Buffington was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
No word if Buffington has bonded out.

If this is true, it's a VERY bone-headed move on Buffington's part.

WWL has hired former WVUE news director and NOLA native Keith Esparros as its new news director. Esparros replaces Bill Siegel, who left the Channel 4 in January to be the new director or news strategy for the E.W. Scripps Co.
Esparros starts his new gig June 15.
