  1. From 1981, here is a WFMY 6pm news close with credit roll. Gotta love the control room shot during the close. The closing cut to "It's All Right Here" sounds nice..
  2. Here is another rare find. We take you back to 1985 where we feature a complete news open for WENY-TV from that year. WENY-TV's newscasts were known as "TV-36 Eyewitness News" at the time. From 1982, here is a KOA-TV (now KCNC-TV) news clip and you have to listen to the news close at the end. It is amazing. KOA-TV/KCNC used TM Productions' "All The News" as its news close during the early 1980s. Here is yet another WLBT vintage newscast as uploaded by Wilson Stribling. This time, from 1980. Here is another rare find. This time, from 1983, where KVBC opens its newscast entitled "First News". Also, here is a KVBC 6pm promo from around 1984 or 1985 with the Gari "Turn To News" theme.
  3. From 1990, here is a WOWL 6:30pm news open with Reginald Jones and Chris Field. From 1991, here is a KTTC newscast featuring Frank Gari "Pride Inside" in their news open. But wait there's more...here is a WLUK news close from 1976!!!! You gotta love this clip, because of the classic "Part of Your Life" theme they use in the close. Also, I shared in an earlier reply a WLBT newscast from 1984 via Wilson Stribling. We now take you back to 1976 where we feature a full WLBT newscast from 40 YEARS AGO!!!! The news team at 6pm on WLBT at the time were Walter Saddler (news), Woodie Asaaf (weather) and Charlie MacAlexander (sports).
  4. From 1981, here is a WRTV news open featuring an unknown news theme. Here is another interesting find, a KOMO newscast from 1980. Here is KARK-TV in 1980 using Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" in the intro. Keeping with the KARK theme, here is a newscast open from election night 1988. The theme: "News 88" by Tuesday Productions. Found another rare find...some WRBL-TV bloopers from 1984 to 1985. WRBL-TV 3 used "And You" by Telesound and even had a 7pm newscast at that time. A news close using "And You" can be seen at around 1:33. And another rare find...some WYEA/WLTZ bloopers from 1981 to 1983. At around 5:23 is a WLTZ news close with an unknown news theme. https://www.facebook.com/norman.easterday/videos/vb.1599750605/10202826127326468/
  5. Wilson Stribling of WLBT on Facebook uploaded a WLBT newscast from 1984. The opening is very nice and features a full newscast. The WLBT 1990 News Theme is heard which leads me to believe that WLBT started using that theme in 1984 or earlier. Also, a WPIX news open from 1984 which still used the classic MCTYW theme. But wait, here is a KPRC newscast close from 1983 which also includes a station sign-off from that period. Also, here is something rare. Bakersfield news clips from 1982. Starting with a KERO news open. Then going over to KPWR-TV (now KGET) and "The News Center". Continuing with Bakersfield, here are three news stories about the South Chester drive-in that aired on KERO's "23 News", KBAK's "NewsForce 29" and KPWR-TV's "The News Center" back in 1982.
  6. I recently come across a reel focused on news anchor Jim Watkins. I am posting this in the pre-2000 classic video thread, because it contains contains clips of Jim Watkins on WKPT Kingsport and WTVF Nashville, two Tennessee stations where he anchored early on in his career. In fact, WKPT was the station where Jim got his first on-air gig doing weather. Check out Jim doing a WKPT weathercast at :18.
  7. We take you back to 1987 where WCHS-TV in Charleston brought you a "News 8 Newsline" promoting the stories for its 11pm news. WCHS used the classic KTNV-WBRZ theme. As I heard the five notes in the theme, it got me to thinking that these five notes could have been the theme's signature, "People You Can Count On", which was WCHS' slogan at the time.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Av7Xcl7Kjc Also, WTTG closed out its morning newscast with Maury Povich using Soundtrack's The Image Leader back in 1985. But that's not all, here is another version of the WTCN Hello campaign as sung by Frank Gari himself in 1982. In addition, here is a WAKR-TV news open from 1986. The theme you hear in the open comes from the WAKC 1988 News Theme, but began using it sometime in the mid 1980s when channel 23 was known as WAKR-TV. KGGM-TV 13 (now KRQE) in Albuquerque used this theme also in the early 1980s.
  8. From 1986, KTVQ opened its newscasts using "Beyond" by Herb Alpert.
  9. You may or may not remember this, but there were some classic KULR videos on YouTube several years ago. One of them was a promo for KULR's "Straight 8 Newservice" from the early to mid 1980s. Now, I found something rare. From the 1980s, here is a promo KULR aired as part of its rebranding campaign. The station, along with KBAK Bakersfield and several others were owned by Harriscope Broadcasting.
  10. Interesting KERO stuff from 1999. I did find something on YouTube related to KERO. This is a video montage containing a clip of the California Raisins and some classic KERO news moments and bloopers featuring legendary Bakersfield newsman Burleigh Smith. It even features a glimpse of a KERO news open from around the mid 1980s which features an unknown theme. This was before KERO adopted the "Turn To News" package by Frank Gari. You can check out that news open clip at 11:35.
  11. We take you back to 1991 where WWLP-TV 22 brought you a weekend edition of NewsCenter 22's Nightteam. Check out the cool bumper cut from the WLOX-KTVW-KIDK-WTRF theme at the beginning.
  12. From 2014, WENY celebrated its 45th anniversary with a look back at the station's history. The video contains a news open clip from the station's early days in the 1970s. (News open is at :33) 2014 was also the year another station celebrated its anniversary. KDRV-TV in Medford celebrated its 30th anniversary with a look back at the station. A few months later in 1985, KDRV debuted local newscasts as "Newswatch 12". (News open from 1985 is at 2:54) From 1994, we take you to KENS-TV 5 where they closed an edition of "Eyewitness News". Love the banter they provide during the closing theme.
  13. Love the Power News V1 bumper cut at 0:59. It sounds nice. From 1984, here is a WBBM-TV news open. Check out the nice effects in this open. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EnAguJgWCQ
  14. I recently found a KMGH gag reel from the early 1980s and that contain some news opens. (The news opens are at 16:17 and 22:22) That's not all...here is a WHO-TV 13 news open from the early 1990s featuring Charlie Van Dyke on the V/O.
  15. Raymie, you are correct. In fact, you can't get enough of these classic videos. Geri Craig, former WSLA-TV (now WAKA-TV) employee and host of "Speak Easy", recently uploaded a set of commercials as aired on WSLA. Talk about vintage! The highlight of the video comes at 6:40 into the video where WSLA aired a local version of CBS We've Got the Touch '84. The news set seen at 6:43 looks like one of WHNT's old news sets they had used back in the 1970s. That's not all, KVAL-TV opens "Northwest News" back in 1989 using "We Know What Matters". Check out the cool logo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRv0h5-2YrQ Here is a WNEP news open from 1979 using the classic Move Closer to Your World theme and someone recorded it off the TV with a video camera. It is a nice open though. From 1985, we take you to Knoxville, Tennessee where WTVK brings you a news digest. News digest is at 2:02 into this video and features Allen Denton of KUSI.
  16. Here is a classic WKRC news intro from 1986 featuring the classic WNDU 1986 News Theme package by Tuesday Productions. WKRC had used Tuesday's News Image before this theme. WAPT in 1987 used an unknown news theme at the time as evidenced in the opening of a news break. It may have been part of a WWLP news theme, but could be wrong. Their newscasts were known as "Channel 16 News". WNTZ, the current FOX affiliate, was your channel by the river during the independent days of the 1980s. Here is their image campaign.
  17. During the 1980s, WTHI in Terre Haute and WPXI in Pittsburgh used the classic package entitled "Look At Us". I found out that Canberra's Capital 7 in Australia also used the package at the time. Canberra's version used the WPXI "Look At Us" slogan and in this video, it contains the full ID with vocals at :47 into this video. I am posting this video in the hope that someone will identify who composed this theme.
  18. I don't know if this has been posted or not, but here goes. I found a couple of videos on YouTube where Canberra's Capital 7 used the WPXI Look At Us/WTHI Leading The Way package during the 1980s. (ID is at :47 and features vocals)
  19. In 1985, CFCN in Calgary was "On Your Side". The station used Frank Gari's classic "Seven On Your Side" package for a few years in the mid to late 1980s and is showcased in this promo. In 1989, WVVA brought you the latest news on "NewsCenter 6". Here is a clip of a WVVA newscast from that period. Oh and the news open is very good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLTBOuQHUO4
  20. We take you back to 1991 where KOLR 10 NewsBeat brought you news, weather, sports and all the "color" (as in KOLR) of the Ozarks. Here is a KOLR 11am news open from that period. The open begins with an ID at 1:28 into the video. Here is another KOLR news open from that period. It uses the evening news open. The open for the 6pm starts at 1:44 into the video. That year, KY3's "Action News" opened its midday newscast using "Power News" by 615 Music. The open is seen at 0:26 into the video.
  21. I may be right or wrong, but if you go over to the SouthernMedia's News Music Search Archive website, take a listen to the KWES 2002 Closing Theme. If you take a listen, the theme sounds like a Tuesday Productions piece. In fact, if I am not too badly mistaken, this may very well be part of the KAKE 1988 package done by Tuesday.
  22. WBRZ in Baton Rouge aired a promo in 1982 entitled "Thank Goodness It's Five O'Clock" where they advertised the 5pm "Eyewitness News". The promo utilizes the same WFSB Klein& thematic piece in the bed. Check it out for yourself.
  23. WAVY 10, this is VERY interesting to checkout, because it showcased KFMB and its commitment to covering local news in San Diego. The Call It Home promo was also used on WTRF-TV in Wheeling, West Virginia during the time WTRF became a CBS affiliate switching affiliations with WTOV-TV (then WSTV) which became an NBC affiliate. The Michael Tuck promo in the KFMB video features a cut from their package which was also used to open a newscast on KSAT in San Antonio, TX. However, if I am not too badly mistaken, I believe that "Call It Home" may very well be the name for a Klein& news music package that KSAT, WPLG and others used during that era. I do recall that the news theme contains a 3-note opening signature
  24. From February 3, 1979...we take you to Cincinnati, Ohio where WKRC brings you "Eyewitness 12 News". The newscast was uploaded by former WKRC director and current KSAZ director, Ellis Hart.
  25. We take you back to 1982 where WSOC-TV brings you the "Eyewitness News Hour" with Bill Walker and Doreen Gentzler. You can view the news open from that era at :42 into the video and features an unknown news theme. The entry form submitted by WSOC-TV for entry into the Peabody Awards state: "We are submitting this particular program as an example of coverage of spot news and national news on a local level. The spot news developed during the run of the program: a toxic chemical fire had started across the street from the television station shortly prior to the start of the newscast. As the fire and the newscast progressed, a cloud of toxic fumes wafted over the station building, causing breathing problems for the population in the area. The local disaster officials advised evacuating the building, and we decided to move the television newscast outside the building where we could follow the progress of the fire. It is an example of operating under the heavy pressure of an on-going news development. (The entire last half hour of the news is an example of this). We also covered a national story live from our Washington Bureau dealing with the Charlotte-born wife of a Russian dissident. The reporter had established contacts in Russia when we covered Billy Graham's historic journey to the Soviet Union live last spring."
