A graphics package definitely won't make a station, but it could make the station so much of an eyesore that the viewers associate the station with bad design. That discourages viewers from tuning in. Just look at WSB, which despite having a perfectly modern product is losing viewers at a faster than average rate.

For example, KDVR|KWGN too. They have several issues. Marketing is just one.

A trend for sure, but with the fact that Sinclair is broke, Nexstar is deliberately lowering the rankings of their stations, and both are over the cap, I think that their stations are ripe for divestment. 90% to the PE vultures, 10% to the networks.

Sinclair is a zombie company. When interest rates increase they will collapse.

They couldn't just get rid of WTTV to someone who wants it? I know that Nexstar kept it and tossed WISH into the bin, but Indy could use some decent ownership.

Lol. You do understand that this is a national trend, right?

I've never understood why people call something dated when a graphics package (or hand me down set for that matter) comes to a new market. Has it been used before? You bet. Has it been used before on NCN? Nope. So to the viewers of News Channel Nebraska, it is a fresh look. I know this board doesn't like seeing graphics repurposed but this was an affordable way for Flood Communications to update their look. In this ad market I'm impressed a locally operated cable-only news channel is spending anything to evolve their on-air presentation.

I think dated is used in the context of something that adds a new dimension to motion graphics artistry. This doesn't do that.

Was this a work of Linear Drift?  Now that the package is no longer being used by all the former Media General stations that used it, the artist probably made it up for grabs for syndication.

Given that this isn't listed on Rey Rodriguez's Linear Drift website and also knowing that Rey has a penchant for taking credit for other's work, I say that Tristan created this, not Rey/Linear Drift. Tristan owns the copyright and can do with it what he wants.

The only reason I brought it up is we've seen many graphics/branding/set updates with various ABC stations and using that as a chance to switch it over and fail

Yes! I know. It's absolutely the lowest bar and yet many can't meet it. Just demonstrates the fine people stations are hiring to direct their creative teams.

I doubt it, I believe that should CBS ever decide to unload WTOG, it would either go to FOX or Standard, should their acquisition of WTSP be successful.

Since Fox may be looking to unload their entire O&O division, Standards seems like the more likely candidate.

Sadly, that's probably why Nexstar is pursuing them in the first place.  And if they succeed and go through with it, expect a lot of the remaining "affiliates" to drop the network as soon as they can.

And go indie? That would be a lot more expensive.

Also, this will allow CBS to unload 8 stations, allowing Nexstar to enter 5 key new markets and develop 2 new duopolies:

KMAX would become a duopoly with KTXL.

KBCW would be a duop with KRON.

Plus they could flip their MyNetworkTV holdings as well, to become CW O&Os.

It would certainly allow Nexstar and NewsNation to access a larger percentage of households, demanding larger control of the linear news market, and most importantly, shaping the news conversation. Remember, they who have the widest distribution have the most say. I guarantee this is Sean Compton's thinking. He cares little for true news. NewsNation is GOP state television.

Instead of trying to ram it down the station's throats as an alternative to regular programming, it needs to be an addition.  Put it on a sub-channel.  Get it out there on OTT.  But don't pre-empt your own programming for what could be redundant coverage (once the networks kick in)...Thankfully, few stations are going this route and wisely are sticking to their regular programming.

Or, ya'know, buy a network for sale *cough* the CW *cough* and ramrod NewsNation down all affiliates whether they god-well-damn like it or not, because everyone loves a mandate.

Nexstar is offering the NewsNation live feed to its stations for live Ukraine coverage. I don't know if any stations took it.

    Queen City News is.

I get the impression that NewsNation isn't thought of too highly at Nexstar stations...

I've talked with enough people connected to Nexstar who would agree with that assessment.

Nexstar forces the stations to push NewsNation programming competing with their own broadcast affiliates. They demand additional packages but pay the staff no more for it. Nexstar throws tons of money at NewsNation but continues to let their stations suffer.

Interesting. I’m on an iPad and the link directs me into the CBS News app.

This looks completely hackneye. They aren't even taking the time mask the domain name record. The menu isn't frozen and the top of the screen is left blank and black. This looks like complete crap!

Assuming this deal actually goes through, and I have a sneaking suspicion it won't ... just saying ... Soo will break up the company piecemeal in 1-3 years.

And really, the only buyers left are the networks. Hearst, Graham and Hubbard are most likely to cash out, Scripps is tapped out, Griffin, Bahakel and Capitol are committed to their stations and nothing else, and Weigel is more interested in stations for their diginets. That leaves ONLY the networks as buyers.

It's all speculation. Let's just wait for the chits to fall where they may.

The reason WBTS labels itself as "NBC 10 Boston" despite actually being on channel 15 is due to the channel being on channel 10 on most cable and satellite providers. And speaking of KNTV, when they were bought by NBC it was initially branded as NBC 3 as it was on channel 3 on most providers.

Given the quickly dwindling subscription rate, only 72.7 million by 2023 from 100m in 2017, it's making less sense to brand your channel by cable position.

lmfao WFXT, the "anchor of a new station group."

I think it's be called the S.S. Titanic.

If WFXT is what they consider a great investment of local news, then all stations under Standard are going to collapse.

CMG is taking all assets from and dissolving the entire StandardMedia brand.

Who knows what this means for WFXT, but WFXT is definitely not news leader. Maybe Standard can turn that around.

WFAA hasn't been sold away from the Belo group before. I guess this is the final death knell.
