With KTVT, WJZ, WBBM, and now KCNC all switching to First Alert Weather, I have cause to believe that this is a groupwide mandate (with the exceptions of Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Boston, and Miami).
Some moronic consultant came up with this.

Number 1 isn't a reason, friend. WLKY uses Strive because all* Hearst stations use Strive. It's a group standard.
*WMUR uses Hearst B because it has significant cross-coverage to WCVB.

And WNCN has launched their 4:00 pm newscast. No more temperature, just time. The open seems to be some in-house modifications of the generic Nexstar CBS open. New VO, but I can't tell who. CBS Local remains, but now they're using the same cuts as WKYT.
You can see that Nexstar doesn't put any value into their art direction. That "Local News That Matters" text is just a hastily implemented Video Copilot plugin.

And anger all the affiliates owned by Sinclair, Gray, Scripps and Hearst? Yeah good luck decimating the affiliate base trying to push a proprietary news service that practically no one is watching.
Nexstar is more than happy.

Here's a thought - Could The CW end up moving from broadcast to cable and/or streaming?
Ha! No. That Nexstar owns the most CW affiliates. Doing that to themselves would be silly.

IMO, The Hill would be a good branding for CW network newscasts and is a stronger brand compared to NewsNation.
Not Nexstar's MO.

Nexstar produces whatever is on NewsNation as well as The Hill's morning show.
And they are going to use The CW as a vehicle for that. Be prepared for The CW to have network newscasts.

Not sure what your reference to "down the block" is, since WNBC is at 50th and 6th, so nowhere near WPIX.
You're not familiar with colloquialisms?

We don't know what's happening with Gray graphics at this point. The Meredith hub's fate is unknown, so before any of the ex-Quincy stations get new graphics, Gray must decide whether to shift these stations to the Meredith hub or to shut the Meredith hub down and go out-of-house (a la Page 1 of this thread).
This is very easy. There is no Meredith creative hub. Matt Quinn, over at Hothaus, designed the standardized Meredith package originally for WSMV. It was implemented at every other Meredith station when Bob St. Charles became Group Director, as all marketing was hubbed before the sale. Now, however, that each station has a CSD again and Bob is back to being solely the CSD for WSMV, stations will inevitably go in their own direction. Hilton Howell highly prefers that all stations use Gray graphics. There are some holdouts, certainly, but those will eventually cave.

I mean...the CSD's work here is very childish, like a lot of Nexstar stations' in-house work. New watchers (important for the marketers) will not be captivated if your graphics are garbage. Nexstar, please hire CSDs that know today's design languages.
If you watch almost ALL of the Nexstar stations, you will see that Nexstar almost never hires Art Directors and CSDs who know their design language. Especially because most CSDs come from News, not Marketing and can't translate research to a comprehensive brand. The industry just doesn't care anymore.

I'm still not convinced that WDKY had a reason (besides network affiliation) to not use the KOIN package. As for the logo, it's basically a coloured version of the generic Tegna Fox affiliate logos.
The CSD is clueless. An L3 with 5 different colors is too damn busy!

How about "Charlotte's Very Own Fox 46?" It's Gray with a hint of Tribune.
Why keep the Fox 46 branding? With everything that Fox did there, maybe the community soured on the name.

That's not a bad logo! However, now WJZY could get in trouble for using government logos.
It's different enough.

The name is fine... if it was a lifestyle type show.
Still think these following names would work:
FOX Charlotte
FOX 46 News
46 News
Queen City's very own FOX46.
Waiting on the call letters to change to WQCN
Let's give it a few years before we render a decision. Y'all gutting this before it even happens. You don't know what research was conducted or how this will play. You only have your suspicions. I am giving it the benefit of the doubt because I know long it can take to grow a brand and the layers involved.

That's cheap ass Nexstar for ya!
Oh, and the KDVR art director is Lazy and refuses to use 2 different packages, one for KDVR and KWGN, and their CSD can't move the ratings needle. Their promos are absolute horsesh*t, using buzzwords without any sort of storytelling capability. If you want to see what Donald Trump would be like as a creative director, watch KDVR|KWGN.

Agreed. Despite Charlotte's strong points, they are not a market like Boston to be able to handle 5 newsrooms. While I'm all in favour of more competition, station owners need to put more news in markets that need it, especially in 2 newsroom markets like Toledo, Ohio.
WCCB produces 5 hours of news a day. It's not much at all. They'll need to drop it.

Also, it's a bit weird to include your competitor's logos in a promo, even for a split second!
Bahaha! It's giving them notice.

CBS Local from Stephen Arnold needs to be the package the CBS O&Os need to start using immediately. Retire the Enforcer music from 1994 and give some life to (in many cases) third place stations in major cities.
ABC/Disney has the edge in many markets where CBS and ABC both own a station.
Enforcer has seen several iterations of updates. Stations can use anything they want, composed from 1994 to 2020. However, stations typically use a mix of themes which can make the branding sound inconsistent. CBS Local was composed on the cheap. Stations are becoming less willing to pay for high quality music. So you get a lot of rushed, almost ubiquitous sounding packages that don't set the station apart from any other in the market.
ABC has the edge because they invest more in station resources.
