Does anyone know if the needle has moved in Chicago since Jennifer Lyons took over WBBM?

That said, how has WGN fared since she left there?

No idea about ratings, but Lyons is a stabilizer. WBBM is competently-staffed, and puts out a quality, if little-watched product. As a viewer and news junkie, that's as important as building the ratings. As for WGN, they didn't miss a beat. They're in the WLS club of Don't Actively F#ck It Up & You'll Do Great.

(Skip to 2:32) My knowledge of the Chicago market is still growing so I was  surprised to see the legendary Bill Curtis/Walter Jacobson pairing still intact as late as 2013. I wish stations weren't so averse to do male pairings these days.

By 2009, Rob Johnson was anchoring evenings solo, and ratings were rising. That fall, Bill was brought in to shoot some promos and feature some of his cold case investigations. At some point, Walter returned to do his commentaries. In November '09, Rob was off, and the station heavily promoted a one night only reunion of the legends on the 10pm news. It was well-received, and they were installed as 6pm co-anchors by September of 2010. Once their contracts ran out in (I think) February '13, they were "retired." Given a full farewell, but it wasn't really their choice.

  3. Morning Express on CNN would be a square peg in a round hole. There's a reason it co-existed with the flagship. They want to do a show on CNN that has panels and politics, and that is the polar opposite of everything HLN was airing. IF 'Morning Express' and its former anchor were brought to CNN, it would be in name only, and Robin Meade would be terribly miscast.

Why would a sports man on that Chicago ABC O&O be the announcer on that late edition?

They were still using live staff announcers, at this point, and until around '91. It was likely just a spot fill-in.

  5. Gerard Jebaily is now in Baltimore, Mary Kay is semi-retired, and now Robb Ellis is apparently gone from the weather team. His bio was removed from the station website, last week, and his social media bios have been similarly updated. A listing for a full-time meteorologist position was posted in mid-January.

Not sure if there was already a discussion on this, but does anyone happen to know why the News Music Search Archive has been down for weeks? I wonder if they got hit with copyright issues?

This is the message I keep getting when I go to the site.

Unfortunately, this is a problem on your end.

  7. Soooooo, this is gonna be messy. Anyone can feel free to fill in the gaps, if and when you come across more info.

Brian Jackson, returning home from KCPQ, will be A new co-anchor on Good Day Chicago, starting 1/22.

    ...with Natalie Bomke.

...and someone in the comments mentioned Terrence Lee moving to 4pm.

Roseanne has been working the early shift, and the 7am trio has platooned the noon show, since Scott's promotion and Padilla's exit. No clue, at this point, what the plans are for Sylvia, Anita Blanton, Roseanne, Anthony, and I guess Tia Ewing, since she is the third wheel/Friday anchor at 4pm.

  8. Not even kidding, first all-male, co-anchored, weeknight evening newscast on 7 in...at least 35 years?

"The newsroom is calling the Bro Show."
"All you need is a glass of scotch, and you're right back to the good ol' days."

All that's missing is the circle 7 jackets.

  9. All of this week's GMA3s have been either clip shows or single-topic programs, all prerecorded, which is totally okay. Good for them. It's a light week. But really, not updating the news update with TODAY'S headlines is just bad.
