This isn't cobbled together? The afternoon theme on a 10pm open, anchored by Judy Hsu?
-
I don't know that the WBBM VO switch had much to do with content, at that point. Chapin began working for WFLD around that time, and WBBM likely wanted someone that can bring a similar growl to the position. At a later point, WMAQ would bring in Charlie Van Dyke, when they were moving to a more tabloid format. A lot of copycats in Chicago in the mid-90's.

Because he wasn't there for 20-plus years. It's hard to do a grand farewell for someone that's not retiring or doesn't have tenure.
-
That promo seems to hint that, even out of a heavy news cycle, they'll keep a focus on health, finance, informative subjects, and uplifting stories, which certainly differentiates it from the earlier hours.
-
I feel like this only works, though, when it's paired with brief, simple, single-story teases going into a break, such as they did last night. Otherwise, way too much airtime is being taken up on previews, alone. It should be noted that, after the open we've seen, it took another 1:20 for Muir to go through major bullet points of the California fires. That's close to 4 minutes of show before the first correspondent hits the air. That's too dang long.
-
That's what I was thinking during the original airing this evening. I've heard all those cuts, and it sounded awfully familiar.
-
Tonight had the carryover headline cue, but no music was used after the open. The teases to break were very brief, with no theme, graphics, or B-roll.

Agreed. That updated, more rounded, L-shape desk from the TV3 thread would be much better. I wouldn't bet on it. I'd like to think the lower thirds within the safe zone, at some point, but I'd bet the rest of the package will hang on for awhile longer.
-
The 2012 theme remains for the headline cue, but gels very well with the GORGEOUS open. All other graphics are the largely the same and 4:3 safe, but they've moved the old desk out of the closest and they're finally on the new set. The environment looks so similar to the old look, the untrained eye wouldn't know it's TV3.

It's 2AM. Time for Night Beat.

WGN's graphics department has been killing it, lately.

From 1983, the Chicago Emmy Awards, aired on WBBM. Not particularly notable, except for the conductor of the event's live band, conducted by THE Dick Marx. Less than a decade earlier, Dick created the CBS station's iconic theme song.

Just heard an ad on WGN Radio for a new show premiering on WGN9 called 'Chicago Football Weekly.' It'll air Saturday nights at 6pm. Didn't catch the launch date, and don't know the run time or hosts, but it'll displace the first portion of the 3-hour, themed 'Friends' block.

I wonder if such a thing like the scoreboard layout is mandated, so to speak, by the leagues, so all camera angles can be consistent when certain broadcasts appear across different networks. Words are failing me, but moral of the story, the new graphics are being used for high school football tonight on the mothership.

Drury, Rosenthal, Sanders, Suppelsa, Donlon, Cortopassi. So continues the grand WGN tradition of down-to-earth, midwestern, middle-aged white dudes. Meanwhile, I thought he looked familiar...

Robb Ellis has effectively replaced Megan, though without a formal announcement, and McGill has been on weekend evenings. If the rumors prove true, and Mary Kay leaves, Tammie could could slide in seamlessly.

C'mon, be better. 1. His name is Dave, and 2. It's summer. He's just taking some time off. 5 days off-air isn't enough to file a missing person report.
-
So, they'll basically only have co-anchored shows on Sunday mornings, and at 4, 5, 6 & 10pm. I've heard that more layoffs are coming to NBC properties, so perhaps this redistribution will lighten the blow, as Katie resigned and Dick passed.
-
There's gonna be a little personal exposition here, but I'd been thinking all day about how to put into words just the impact Jerry Taft had on my path in life.
-
Unless Mary Kay is following her husband to Florida. Jim Williams and Brad were paired together for a few nights earlier this spring. It's wasn't the worst dynamic, and nobody burst into flames, despite 2 men co-anchoring.

general thread NBC Sports/NBCSN/Golf Channel/NBC RSNs Thread

The pandemic delayed the debut, but it will go live for the White Sox opener this Friday. -
Okay, we all get the point. Some meteorologists anchor. No need to derail this thread to just list them all.
