  1. I hate being right, but the hints were becoming too obvious. For better or worse, I'm not surprised that Larry's name is being assumed as a successor in some form. I'm disappointed that it's not Phil, but Larry is very solid and has cost and age on his side. That said, nothing's confirmed. In reference to the header image on the Feder article, I need to start a drinking game where I take a shot every time a screenshot from a video I've posted or a demo logo that's been shown here is used in other public forums.
  2. He reported last night on the 4, getting intro'd by fellow U of I grads Rob and Judy. He also went to Elgas' high school. It turns out that Mark went to journalism school with my best friend's fiance.
  3. A segment of KABC, featuring Ron Burg-err, I mean Harold Greene...AND JOEL DALY???
  4. From an article looking back at his career when he retired in 2006... "He was at KNXT-TV, a CBS station in Los Angeles now known as KCBS; he was an anchor and reporter at WNBC-TV in New York City; he served as an NBC correspondent in Vietnam; returned to anchoring and reporting at WABC-TV in New York City; at WBBM-TV in Chicago; at WTHR-TV in Indianapolis; WTTV-TV in Washington, DC; KHON-TV in Honolulu; WLS-TV in Chicago; and KRON-TV in San Francisco, from whence he returned to Hawaii to work at KITV."
  5. That would be my guess, but that's just me putting some separate signs together. Cheryl Scott's been at the station 3 years now, so this is about how long I might've expected Jerry to continue. Besides, I'd rather see him retire than see Phil or Tracy be fired. All this said, I would hope he'd stay through February sweeps and get the current 6pm team to a 20th anniversary. On the bright side, hiring a meteorologist signals to me that they'll continue with 2 weather folks on weeknights...unless they make multiple moves.
  6. Feder hinted on Wednesday that another retirement is coming soon in the Chicago media landscape, and I think I might guess who it will be...or someone else is about to have a bad day. http://abc7chicago.com/careers/job-meteorologist/2718441/
  7. It's hungry.
  8. Feder hinted this morning that there will be another retirement announcement in Chicago media by the end of the year. Whether or not it's someone from WGN is unclear. There admittedly isn't a long list of retirement-aged personalities left among the 5 stations, so it might be quick to predict, unless, of course, it's someone from behind the scenes, print, or radio.
  9. They posted the special report on their YouTube page, and David joined her, at some point.
  10. A lovely tribute from Tom: https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10155848141451760
  11. It's going to be getting crowded at the retired anchor bingo hall.
  12. Two little notes from the first day without Mark: Ben is pulling the shift tonight, and he's wearing the tie Mark gave him at the end of the four on Friday. Also, they're prepared to go without a named replacement for awhile, as the 6 o'clock hour of the evening show is using a talent open with the 4 remain anchors.
  13. They mentioned on the air tonight, adding that insurance won't cover a lot the bills, so a funding account has been set up by friends.
  14. I knew I'd find it.
  15. Hey people. Respect that.
  16. They really stretched the use of the old studio, especially with a relatively stationary anchor, though they even made up some stand-ups for his final Thanksgiving in 2015. He was like the first anchor to stand in the new weather center for the toss, and he stood in front of the desk with Jerry and Jim in the anchor chairs to close the show.
  17. Find their YouTube page (I don't have it in front of me). It's so much easier to rifle through those and you should get an answer.
  18. Thanksgiving: Five newscasts Two male anchor One female anchor One sports anchor And TWO meteorologists, because screw you, logic. But hey, they let Jerry do the 10.
  19. Who wants to help stock the 'Man of the People' office? http://manofthepeople.tv/wishlist/ No, this is not a joke. Mostly.
  20. With all the turnover there in the 90's, I'm not surprised. I believe he was brought in to push out (or at least take seniority over) Steve Baskerville, but it never came together like they wanted it to.
  21. I don't know what that was all about. WLS and KABC's bio pages had the same problem that long ago, though they were resolved quickly. On the other hand, KABC's full header logo is their pre-2015 condensed font wordmark, and the small header image for WLS is their logo with the 2007 shiny ABC.
  22. That's who I was thinking, but I couldn't remember her name for anything. It doesn't help that she was only filling in, and didn't hold a formal anchor position.
  23. Okay, old-timers. Anyone know who this anchor is? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1q8cNCBRmZY
