  1. Phoenix-area coverage of Decision '96: Election Night. It starts with KPNX/NBC, but we eventually get to see the other stations. There's not much KNXV, which has gone toward its tabloid appearance. KSAZ has instituted the Fox 10 name and the "Fox News 10" logo (that was soon revised). KTVK has an Arizona Lottery drawing at 1:56:40. Jim Howl struggles to read "Consejo Latino de Salud" — he would leave within a couple of years. KPHO is in its mid-late 90s newsroom set. At 2:12:33 is a promo for Arizona 5 News at 5 and 6, read by Scott Chapin. And here's a KNTV newscast from 1992:
  2. It's 48 minutes of WTVX commercials from 1989...including several news breaks presented by Curt Fonger and Evelyn Cole. By this time, the station was already an independent. Interestingly, the first one uses newer and more elaborate L3s than most of the others.
  3. A fantastic KENS close from 1985: WJZ's Eyewitness News from 1992 — the 11pm open with the candelabra tower top animation:
  4. WWL from 1979:
  5. The FNC graphics are their own ball of wax, but I've *never* been a fan of the creative and brief of Fox O&O stations, with a few exceptions like the KSAZ satellite dish open set. It's tired on a meta level.
  6. The open to a weekend edition of WTVH's Newscenter 5 in 1992, with a cut of Symphony not yet documented for WTVH: And the music makes this 1986 WHEC promo:
  7. It's WENY's Eyewitness News in 1993...or is that 1980??? Also in Ithaca was the cable newscast "News Center 7", which still looks better than WENY: And on the other side, WTVW looked almost major-market in 1990:
  8. Huh, never saw this on the same channel that had the KUTV signoff/footage compilation. Not new, but higher quality version (and the minute cut) of the Livin' in Utah image song. Gosh, it's really a majestic sound.
  9. So this music was the news theme...
  10. This is kind of...a menacing close theme to the local news: They got an updated set the next year:
  11. Aarons went from WGRZ to WROC in the summer of 1996 (and his contract was not renewed there when it wrapped in 1999).
  12. A few more KETK items: More of the slower-mix KMOL theme stuff, including a couple closes, as well as bloopers and some bumps: (cued to the close) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=888NmnO2jsY;t=133 Pieces of a sweeps series on how KETK's "Region 56 News" was produced. The first one, a promo for the set, includes a small snippet of the open that was being used: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=LMy7dfQHuYE;t=66
  13. A curious KETK reel from 1996 showing their set from this era.
  14. The opening minutes of KPNX's "Channel 12 News Tonight" in April 1987: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=UCZ7paXKJfw;t=117
  15. Better schools? Good one.
  16. Shannon Hurd and Brad Byrd tease what's next on WEHT's News First 25 in early 1989:
  17. No, they were a little different. In style they were closer to the 1993 set. They had a "Heart of Carolina" logo at the front, too.
  18. This game telecast from 1986 is notable for two reasons: -it is the final game Wichita State played in football (the program was disbanded within a month) -it was also the final regular season game in ASU's Rose Bowl season Wichita State football at the time was telecast by KBS (KWCH). As a bonus... -There's a promo at 1:37:00... -and at 2:55:35 is a promo leading into the KWCH sign-off. This must have been a repeat.
  19. Don't get me started...as nice as this is, I'd rather have some KUTV from 1986 instead...
  20. That channel also has a Sunday close from the same period and a bunch of reports and a few bloopers extending after the circa-1985 logo change.
  21. Note the Chuck Murphy-voiced commercial at 3:06 and the Hello-bearing news update at 11:19, too! What a compilation!
  22. It's surprising to us today how some stations in the middle of the country back then didn't have 6pm news and just did 5 and 10 (KMGH in the early-mid 90s comes to mind; WHBQ also was in that situation near the switch, but that was also a sign of deep neglect).
  23. Wow! That's been on YT for all this time and none of us ever found it? The Chicago acting mayor story dates this to December 1987, not 1988.
  24. Darn you for taking a huge bite out of this KFDA 1989 open!!
  25. WCVB 11pm in 1989: One of two parts of KFMB's News 8 from November 27, 1991:
