1. The WISC and WHTM early 90s themes were also written by Sheldon Elias who did the WBBM theme. A further offspring, though not done by Elias, was the KFDA early 90s package by Eric Enfalt which accompanied two generations of WBBM ripoff opens. Other elements from this era: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=wmWuo-uMQoE;t=434 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=oYj0AsJQVYw;t=582
2. You make a good point. I could almost see KPLR getting the ABC affiliation...almost. KDNL could be shell bait for someone.
3. The Allman Report is no more: after threatening to sexually assault David Hogg, he's been terminated and KDNL is back at square one. The threats had prompted calls for his firing and a boycott of the program's sponsors.
4. KSAZ hasn't had a 4:00 (or 4:30) newscast since 1996 or so. They're the last station into the timeslot. The others are new times for KSAZ's news.
5. Two WHIZ newsbreaks from 1987 and 1993: And... THE BEST NEWS OF ALL! The 30-second image campaign song from WQAD in 1988. WMBD also used the campaign. My guess is late 1985 or 1986?
6. I wonder if Haffner had a deal with the graphics people... (WATE also had an open like this)
7. KSTP's Eyewitness News at 6:30 open at the end of a 6pm show from 1996: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=Lplxhy_lNxM;t=1755 (The graphics and color scheme make me think a bit of KCTV from this era)
8. The Entravision axe falls again! This time, it's KINC in Las Vegas, which soon will get its local newscasts from...KINT El Paso: "The result of bad decisions by the company yet the employees face the consequences. Chin up!"
9. ...That's the WKRC 1979 theme! More where that comes from:
10. This is some sort of KGTV 1989 news special called "One Night in San Diego". There's some other stuff in the video too. And some of KFMB's 11:00 "News Eight" from October 1989. Rain is adding to the misery of the Loma Prieta earthquake. Note the interesting live report by telephone from KMST's weatherman Carl Bell: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=umoHa5UU3b8;t=459
11. A five-part series on a disease called PBB that hit Michigan farms in the 70s, from WWTV in 1992: And some WPIX from the same year. John Gotti's guilty!
12. Some Jacksonville news opens from 1984 in here: WTXF in 1992:
13. My guess is that debuted in early '96 (we already had a 10pm open in March '96 with that look). It was gone by April 1997 because the station became "Fox 5".
14. He ended up coming back and doing local news cut-ins on an AM radio station here in the 2000s.
15. An open from CKND FirstNews in 1991: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=2TywDHrHnBU;t=159
16. As to the lack of an open, KPNX never bothered to produce a new open for the 10pm show when Linda Álvarez left for Los Angeles. This was the 10pm open that belonged to that set: They were also at that time in the middle of a two-phase brand transition. Around November 1985, KPNX debuted the sung We're Going Where You're Going image song and began using it as a close. Keep in mind that this accompanied not only Álvarez being replaced with Patti Kirkpatrick but also (Dewey Hopper left and then resurfaced in Sacramento — his media career was best described as bizarre). There were very good reasons for KPNX not to have a 10pm open. The April 1986 change was much more wholesale — revamped news set, new logo, end of Action News — and included a more comprehensive news package composed around the WGWYG theme. It was in 1989, again in two phases (apparently), that KPNX phased it out for work done by TVbD. As in 1986, the second phase included a new logo, but set changes did not occur until 1992.
17. Holy moly, The Ticket might be the most misunderstood package ever. I'm still not quite sure what it came from, exactly. My personal suspicion, especially after giving it a full listen, is that it emerged from Arnold's work for LIN Productions and the Texas Rangers network in the late 90s: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=euTEWR2r7WY;t=1353 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=ps7Im4u8238;t=3131 Also, WLAJ 2001 is the cut at 0:57 in the NMSA sample of that package.
18. I don't know what that is...
19. And staying in Tampa, a close to WTOG's Eyewitness News in 1983:
20. This was during its stint as WABU in the 90s. It managed to lure the Red Sox away from WSBK for three seasons (1996 through 1998). It was actually showing some promise as a well-built independent (it even had newsbreaks from its own news department) before Pax came calling. Here's an earlier 68 Sports Night from 1997:
21. It's not a newscast, but one listen should explain why I put it here...
22. It's the KWWL News at 6 from the summer of 1994: The theme is heard in full at 8:41 and 18:32 — what is it from? Also several KWWL promos voiced by That Guy™. For the summer of '94, an EMAIL in the close is way cool!
23. "TSM News" from KTSM on February 14, 1993. Dig the Valentine's Day-themed station ID!
24. The only other footage of the period is from 1992: You can really tell how the NC4 change came with a light graphics refresh (move from parallelograms to circle pieces). The graphics changed, then the Gilmer music was introduced the next year, and in 1994 (I think) they moved to the thinner 4.
25. It ain't pretty, but I will take it. KTVX News at 10 using First News in 1992...as seen in Vancouver! @Info Junkie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=n1fr4Liueus;t=179 Worth noting: looks like the change to this logo occurred in 1991.
