  1. Huh, never saw this on the same channel that had the KUTV signoff/footage compilation. Not new, but higher quality version (and the minute cut) of the Livin' in Utah image song. Gosh, it's really a majestic sound.
  2. So this music was the news theme...
  3. This is kind of...a menacing close theme to the local news: They got an updated set the next year:
  4. Aarons went from WGRZ to WROC in the summer of 1996 (and his contract was not renewed there when it wrapped in 1999).
  5. A few more KETK items: More of the slower-mix KMOL theme stuff, including a couple closes, as well as bloopers and some bumps: (cued to the close) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=888NmnO2jsY;t=133 Pieces of a sweeps series on how KETK's "Region 56 News" was produced. The first one, a promo for the set, includes a small snippet of the open that was being used: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=LMy7dfQHuYE;t=66
  6. A curious KETK reel from 1996 showing their set from this era.
  7. The opening minutes of KPNX's "Channel 12 News Tonight" in April 1987: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=UCZ7paXKJfw;t=117
  8. Better schools? Good one.
  9. Shannon Hurd and Brad Byrd tease what's next on WEHT's News First 25 in early 1989:
  10. No, they were a little different. In style they were closer to the 1993 set. They had a "Heart of Carolina" logo at the front, too.
  11. This game telecast from 1986 is notable for two reasons: -it is the final game Wichita State played in football (the program was disbanded within a month) -it was also the final regular season game in ASU's Rose Bowl season Wichita State football at the time was telecast by KBS (KWCH). As a bonus... -There's a promo at 1:37:00... -and at 2:55:35 is a promo leading into the KWCH sign-off. This must have been a repeat.
  12. Don't get me started...as nice as this is, I'd rather have some KUTV from 1986 instead...
  13. That channel also has a Sunday close from the same period and a bunch of reports and a few bloopers extending after the circa-1985 logo change.
  14. Note the Chuck Murphy-voiced commercial at 3:06 and the Hello-bearing news update at 11:19, too! What a compilation!
  15. It's surprising to us today how some stations in the middle of the country back then didn't have 6pm news and just did 5 and 10 (KMGH in the early-mid 90s comes to mind; WHBQ also was in that situation near the switch, but that was also a sign of deep neglect).
  16. Wow! That's been on YT for all this time and none of us ever found it? The Chicago acting mayor story dates this to December 1987, not 1988.
  17. Darn you for taking a huge bite out of this KFDA 1989 open!!
  18. WCVB 11pm in 1989: One of two parts of KFMB's News 8 from November 27, 1991:
  19. I don't think KNXV has a male meteorologist on on weekdays at all (Iris Hermosillo in the morning and Amber Sullins for the evening shows). They do have John Patrick on weekends. KPNX has Lindsay Riley, who joined from WTTV earlier in the year, on its evening newscasts, and Krystle Henderson is also on their staff. But James Quiñones presents the weather in the morning. KSAZ has Kristy Siefkin presenting its evening weather and Stephanie Olmo on weekends, but Cory McCloskey in the morning. Worth noting, I think they may be the largest market station in the country without a certified meteorologist. KTVK/KPHO has five mets (three men, two women) and one female weather anchor.
  20. I hope you like WSYX... This 1987 open was the first fully-baked open used after the callsign change: The set was updated in 1993...
  21. More WRC material — 6pm and the never-before-heard morning open from the 1986 set:
  22. Some KSDK items from 1994:
  23. I remember seeing it — several of the other opens from the period (really the opens remained almost untouched from the '88 relaunch to '95/'96 or so, except for the change from "News San Diego" to "KNSD News").
  24. Didn't know KBVO used Hello! Is there a "Hello Austin" lurking somewhere?
