What is the point? Do they think not streaming just drives people to traditional TV? It doesn't.

This is a replacement for the Fayetteville site in the Northwest Arkansas Mall. After this, KFSM plans to update its Fort Smith facility. They are having to do some politics as to where their newscasts will originate full time. KFSM's news shows come from Fort Smith. KHBS/KHOG has its primary studio at Rogers, and KNWA/KFTA has primary studios at Fayetteville (though both of the latter have Fort Smith facilities as well). I'd be interested to see which stations rate better in which areas.

That theme use was discovered after I audited DeWolfe, so it makes sense that I wouldn't have caught it then. I'm not familiar with that disc. Some of Pathfinder sounds familiar, too...

Legacy has bought Gray stations as a minority group before. They typically run them with a few subchannels. Their four existing stations (and two satellites) are KHME/KQME Rapid City (KOTA) KMLU Monroe, LA (KAQY) KNHL Hastings, NE (KHAS) KNDB/KNDM Bismarck (KNDX/KXND) They will almost certainly be run with subs. The structure of network services, especially ABC and Fox, is in doubt. More to the point, KTWO's news operation may be at risk of being axed.

There was an operating relationship between KTWO and KGWC and KLWY/KFNB. All these stations are being acquired. The same sort of DMA mess that characterizes this region is spreading. I have no idea what the end product is. What is clear is that there will be only one company producing TV newscasts in Wyoming. Gray and Legacy will be the only companies owning commercial TV stations licensed to Wyoming.

That sounds like Gray.

I have literally no idea what's going to happen with the affiliations. Gotta admit, television in Wyoming is kind of a mess as is, and some of that's simply because of the DMA lines.

Interesting that KGWC is being spun off. I imagine there is going to be some network shuffling of some sort. And who will want KGWC, arguably one of the CBS network's worst affiliates?

And see, I totally disagree in re: Doug Myers. Not a match at all. The open probably dates to 1992 at least: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=NGbUnSxm2tQ;t=95 The same channel with the WPBN/WTOM and WWTV/WWUP footage has this WGTU rarity...a news cut-in from May 15, 1996. Evidently it was a partnership with the newspaper. This would have aired during GMA. WGTU did not have a full local news service, so this was among the only local news output on the station along with some sort of 11pm update: Those clips, and some of the short 2000s stuff, really make it clear how much ownership neglected 7&4 (they finally got the Sinclair pack this year — Sinclair is probably the best owner these stations have had in a long time).

It's still a problem. Corporate PACs aren't surprising, and I get that Sinclair is subject to certain sorts of federal regulations that it might want to lobby for. The NDs should never have received this email, though.

TIL Sinclair has a PAC. They asked their executive staff — including, as a result, their local NDs — to contribute to it. Woof. Sinclair Broadcast Group PAC broke for Republicans 2-to-1 in the 2016 cycle, according to data from OpenSecrets. Its funding primarily comes from the Smith family and other Sinclair executives and their families. The contributions are to congressional candidates — no presidential donations.

There's another one of these somewhere on the internet...or at least there was (same open animation). I believe it might even have been on TV-Ark somewhere (it was definitely not in great quality). So I'd known that this existed, but I hadn't seen another copy of it. The rarity is accentuated by the fact that Trebek only did this gig from January to May of 1987. In an interview he did that fall for People, Trebek wasn't quite happy with VTV:

While I posted CKVR's "VRLand News" the other day, I think it's worth putting into context how... out of character that look was for them! The 1990 open is new. In the mid-80s, CKVR used this pulsating ditty that is a production track (it was at least used by the UK's Channel 4). This is the new material - an open from 1990: This theme, with one or two graphical variations, was used from 1991/92 through to the VRLand change:

Probably my single favorite Canadian news theme...and I've never seen the original open with it! By early '97, they'd tightened up the open. And get a load of the set!
