  1. Did Blacker's become Mor Furniture for Less or something, or at least did they use the same production company? The whole ad screams Mor to me (including VO). Mor had a tendency at one point to use Network Music and actually directly contributed to one ID of a piece of music! (That would be Dominant Force. Hearing it in a Mor commercial actually sparked me finding it. It helped that I already knew it was a production track by its appearance in a Rick Santorum presidential ad.)
  2. A taste of WCPX 6 News from 1993:
  3. I sure hope so.
  4. KXAS had them by April 1987, but by then they were in use elsewhere (WJKS, WHTM). I do not think KXAS debuted them until the new NBC peacock was rolled out. There is a lean toward NBC affiliates in the roster, but not totally.
  5. I can name a bunch off the top of my head... , , , KNDU, WGGB...
  6. That WHTM open is light-years ahead of what they had in 1986. Also, Charlie Van Dyke jumped from WHTM to WGAL really quickly...
  7. That's what I get for finding these things at 12:30am... Here's a WEWS story from 1979:
  8. And KOIN in May 1980 (!) with Part Of Your Life (!!)
  9. KDLT News from May 1991:
  10. It was fully sold recently for $70 million (I think), probably in anticipation of the Time Warner-AT&T merger.
  11. KMOL "News 4 San Antonio" for November 1, 1995:
  12. A KSAZ tour from the mid-90s! Holy Spirit of Arizona! This is a must-watch for anyone who wants to see how a mid-90s major market TV station operates (it shows pretty much the entire station!). Plus it's been converted to 60fps! Judging by the 10 News branding and a graphic for "Tragedy in the Everglades" (the ValuJet crash), this is from 1996. At 17:56 are some "Fox 10 News" graphics with the O in Fox replaced by the sunset 10, and following it is a show of the graphics computer with a trove of unused KSAZ logo concepts. The wheels were clearly in motion for the rebrand.
  13. WKBN 11pm open, 1995: 22 minutes (sadly not complete) of WCIV from January 1990. The theme used in the bumper I've cued up to is in the NMSA as WAKC 1993: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=jVMw2yFsrcA;t=1038
  14. Today marks the 25th anniversary of the dedication of the Tennessee Aquarium... Note the music bed, the (very good) WDEF "Looking Out for the Tennessee Valley" theme debuted c. 1990!
  15. Yes, 1999 is correct — April 17, in fact. Also, who thought describing the newscast as "news, news, and more news" was a good idea in that WSCV open?
  16. Michael Karp's Real News strikes again...at WKAQ! They looked like this in the early/mid-80s: Here's a (partial) open from WAPA with Turn To: And some old WAPA station IDs and news clips:
  17. And speaking of KIRO...a full 10pm newscast from 1995! The top story is the release of Windows 95! And some WMBB: 1984 close and year-ender special: 1995 6pm cast:
  18. KING's Almost Live had skits sometimes that parodied news. And from time to time, they went and parodied their competitors. KIRO comes out of the box: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzjatjrOYjc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=DvxExuSOC7w;t=43 From September 1994: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUHEe2HTeAE Sometimes they went after their own station: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdPmwJBhBQA
  19. A KCBS Action News Sports special from April 1992. Note the secondary set, best recognizable as part of their 1986 set:
  20. This video has been on YT since 2009... 28 views for *another* early 90s KRBK newscast piece with the WSVN-ripoff aesthetic: KAPP in 1987. KVEW used this theme too, of course: And TUCSON??? KGUN's theme in 1986 was the Tuesday WNDU theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrAUZwcSaOk
  21. Wow, the owners of WCFT sure liked that set, because they gave an identical one (with logo changes and the weather center on the opposite side) to their Yuma sister station (WCFT and KYEL were sisters between 1978 and 1990): That WCFT Alumni group where that came from has some good stuff, mostly images but a few videos, including this one:
  22. KIVI at least looked more interesting than KTVB, which in terms of appearance and identity seemed years behind the curve in the early 90s...
  23. A WRC "We're the Team" promo from 1984: And some WJLA promos...
  24. KIRO in May 1988... I had no idea until today that Tim Healey (now the voice of the ASU Sun Devils) had a short stint in Seattle.
  25. Just looking at that (besides the picture of the TV screen), I can see a lot of misalignment. The CBS eye from the 13, the KOVR ID text is too far to the right... On a far more serious note, the body of WCSH meteorologist Tom Johnston was found in Auburn, Maine after he had been reported missing since Monday. The police investigation is currently focusing on apparent suicide as the motive.
