Bye-bye, Federated Media... "not local enough", Sook says.
-
First 120 days...it's like a presidency! I'm surprised Nexstar has a fully functioning studio at its HQ, too.
-
Wow, Scott Pelley introducing the town hall. "171 stations in 100 markets." Wow.
-
The density of Nexstar stations is impressive, but it's also a major risk. In media, when companies get this large and do it by organizing local units, it can be painful and debt-laden. They're starting a bit late. My guess is if the impending presidential address is an SR on one or more of the networks, this is being held back so, say, MCOs can join in.
-
It's just a reminder that I know way too much about news music. They did show one graphic, which is a map of every market with a Nexstar station. If Honolulu were really that close, Phoenix would be a lot nicer...

I tuned in and almost immediately recognized the Stephen Arnold production music. That's kind of sad.
-
Wow, that tease graphic is funky! This has to be late in 1985 judging by the story about the Union Carbide chemical spill.

KNXV sports director Craig Fouhy has been hospitalized with a heart issue:

The sales appear to have closed. The stations in Enterprise are WGEI-LD (channel 26) and W41EJ-D. There's a CP to move them to 31°19'6", -85°49'57" on the east side of Enterprise. Right behind, of all things, a Beef'O'Brady's.

A rare look at KLAX "31LAX Action News" with a news tease from late 1996 or early 1997. The station was using Ultra News as its music and a ripoff of the classic Hearst graphics. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=Ib47n4Ouslc;t=162

November 1981 to at least June 1988 (and potentially some point in 1989) with those opens. This early version sounds just a bit different though...

Rob Lowe evidently didn't expect a retrans consent dispute to cause him to lose Fox (and CBS and ABC)... The NPG dispute means lost playoffs, and in this case, one of the sickest burns I've ever seen on Twitter. EDIT: The tweet was removed but this was its text:

Wow, that's News 88? I would never have guessed.

It's time for more Joplin! KOAM News at Five in April 1987, but we're missing the open: There's a bump at 2:13, 6:53 and 11:43 and a close at 18:59. I recognize none of them. I have a 5pm open from this period with News 88, but nothing here sounds like it.

Discovered composers & publishers of music themes
Samantha replied to promoguy98's topic in News Music & Voiceovers
I presume three waves of We're Your Kind of People. One's from 1982 (right after the fire), one is the Tappan version from 1984, and I believe there was a third wave used for a hot moment in 1986 and early 1987. There's also a mention of a *new* news opening, which is intriguing... This theme was used between 1982 and 1986... This is the "third wave"... The second wave stuff sounds totally different from the first. -
Arizona television and radio stations have slated another roadblock program for tomorrow. For the second time in three years, all the state's stations will air a 30-minute special, this one titled Hooked RX: From Prescription to Addition. It is a sequel to the original Hooked, which aired two years ago as a roadblock in the month of January and focused on heroin. The program, like the original, is co-produced by Cronkite News and the Arizona Broadcasters Association. The air time is 6:30pm.

Another WAFF open? From late 1986? A *third* wave of We're Your Kind of People? It can't be!

My post on Buddy Bostick's death must have drawn this out of the shadows... In keeping with Bostick's frugal philosophy, KWTX held onto news music far longer than it should have. They were the last station to use Tuesday13 (abandoned in 1990) and didn't ditch The News Image until 1997. Only a handful other stations were even still using the package in 1991! The news open itself strongly suggests someone regularly watched WFAA... In 1997, KWTX atoned for its news music sins with one of the quietly best packages of the 90s (and while the open date is 2004, the graphics are clearly older)...
-
He might have been incredibly frugal but his stations were decent. Buddy Bostick, who founded KWTX-TV, died Wednesday at the age of 98. Here's the piece of advice he left us in 1985 on the topic of news music... "Buy the music... Buy it just like you buy your cameras and like you buy your transmitters. When you buy it, you own it and you use it until it is no good and you can throw it away."

Dicey quality, but WTOV in 1981 with the solo from Billy Joel's Angry Young Man for the open! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2ceNR48IUA

WICD bumper...is this NewScore? From 1987:
-
No open here, but WJTC? In 1985? With a newscast? I had to share this. There's also some WEAR in here. The topic: the closure of a local radio station. And if you like Rockford, check out WIFR in 1998: If neither of those float your boat...WSAZ promos from the end of the 70s with Part of Your Life! Or KFMB in 1989? (Featuring a full close of the Silvertree theme and an editorial!) Or WOWL from the same year?

The open to the WSIU "SIU Night Report" in 1990, and then in 1991: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=1dHV5R-xuQ4;t=20

WKBN 1990!

It's unmistakably him — the tapes are in just as interesting quality, there's the second of something else spliced on the end... Here are some samples...
