  1. KMST in January 1993! A year before becoming KCCN, KMST's (probable) last look as channel 46 used the CBS affiliate graphics and music of the period: And in the early 90s, as some of these station promos attest, they went early prime: On a more somber note, June 16 marked the 30th anniversary of a fatal chopper incident in Jacksonville which killed two people who were in WTLV's helicopter and injured a third. This WJXT clip analyzes the problems of Hughes 500C-model aircraft, including the problem with a tail rotor that caused the WTLV bird to crash. The package includes footage of a camera shot from the chopper as it began to spin. The Army and Border Patrol had just discontinued a similar model aircraft for the same issue. Furthermore, the tail rotor problem had caused a fatal crash of WFMY's aircraft the previous year - which is also shown on video.
  2. I actually thought the original TVbD/1998 Circle 7 looked pretty good in the original set. My personal favorite, though, is the one that they used from 1993 to 95.
  3. Here's a doozy from 1960: And, with the original audio removed, a KTVY/WKY (not sure of the year) open from the 70s. The open animation seems to have a little bit of influence from the 70s NFL on NBC open: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=KjY4RKMrsT8;t=235 There's also *another* open, from the late 70s with full sound: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=fkgBDwDm2AI;t=467
  4. I've heard this open, but never seen it. Until this week it was the oldest El Paso open on YT: The two oldest KDBC opens are not in the NMSA for audio quality issues. The first is from a blooper reel - not the first time - and it looks like the audio was out of pitch (I've corrected this and sent the sample to the NMSA, but...) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=nxiAW6ZbXmk;t=626 And for the second, well, the guy needs a capture card:
  5. That just doesn't sound right to me...
  6. The KDLH piece has to be 1988 or later. But that KVIA open...whoaaaaaa! Late edit: The only vintage El Paso that even comes close to this time period is all blooper reels and the 1987 reel would indicate that in that year KVIA ditched that set, logo and open for new ones of each, and Spirit of Texas to boot.
  7. The Orlando shooting prompted a very personal response for one WXIA reporter: an essay in which he comes out.
  8. Time for some news from Hispanic media: KTAZ has a new female anchor and a new news director. The new anchor is Jimena González, who starts next week replacing Rebeka Díaz. Díaz was promoted to network as a reporter. González worked in Tijuana and San Diego. The new news director is Miguel Gaytán, who replaces Andrea Ospina. Ospina left to be the deuce at KTMD.
  9. The signature at 0:13/the end is the same as the KTVW/WWLP package!! I bet that the KTVW set (from the "barrel roll" open) is a "News 80s v2". BTW, I do not believe KTVW would have commissioned a package. If anything they were kinda cheap.
  10. WISN in November 1984:
  11. I happen to be in Chicago right now. Today I went down by Wrigley. People from WGN were walking down Clark Street and handing out these flyers. They were also putting them on cars. That's some dedication...and the furthest I've ever seen a post-retrans fallout PR campaign go. BTW, the reason I knew these were WGN people handing these out: one had a WGN polo and the other had a "Chicago's Very Own" shirt.
  12. WMAQ in 1972:
  13. This short KOLO promo in 1989 features (barely) the WMGC/WBKO 1988 theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=atoW1zhsxBc;t=108 And the TV Madman is going mad again. A WDJT short 10pm newscast from 1996!
  14. KSBW in 1993. Brave New World and TVbD graphics: KSBY used a variation of these 40 Years graphics labeled "In Touch for 40 Years" instead of "Friends for 40 Years" like KSBW. I bet you they had a matching open, too. We don't have any early/mid-90s KSBY.
  15. WBRZ 1985 *is* Sweet and we knew that because someone had the music on reel-to-reel (from WEAR) and confirmed the composer. The other finds though are new — they confirm the connection between the image campaign and the theme. Also, now that you say it, the voiceover makes a lot of sense.
  16. Hmm, just took a look at the reel. I wonder if it's production music myself.
  17. WFMY in 1992:
  18. Rick D'Amico will retire from KSAZ in two months: http://www.azcentral.com/story/entertainment/television/2016/06/01/rick-damico-retiring-channel-10/85257950/
  19. January 18, 1982... WKRC's "Eyewitness 12 News: Tonight". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pw_cIb7FsY8
  20. WIVB update in the mid-90s. First time I've seen them using Prime News: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPe3KOcSiYE
  21. The full WKRC newscast showed up and it had the close, so I sent it in. It's the most 70s thing to ever exist.
  22. It's kind of the approach KOTA had to take, especially back then when they branded as the "Great American West Television Network". It puts into perspective the fact that the "eternal" TVbD open (which rolled out either in 88 or 89) was a big upgrade for them and a return to a more "traditional" style of US news presentation.
  23. It also happens to be an open so stereotypically 80s that it would appear in a period piece. Plus I love how these opens have the most unusual production tracks.
  24. An entire WXFL 6pm newscast from 1985 (A-block linked, but the B and C blocks are up too): This person probably worked there because, well...
