  1. Rick D'Amico will retire from KSAZ in two months: http://www.azcentral.com/story/entertainment/television/2016/06/01/rick-damico-retiring-channel-10/85257950/
  2. January 18, 1982... WKRC's "Eyewitness 12 News: Tonight". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pw_cIb7FsY8
  3. WIVB update in the mid-90s. First time I've seen them using Prime News: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPe3KOcSiYE
  4. The full WKRC newscast showed up and it had the close, so I sent it in. It's the most 70s thing to ever exist.
  5. It's kind of the approach KOTA had to take, especially back then when they branded as the "Great American West Television Network". It puts into perspective the fact that the "eternal" TVbD open (which rolled out either in 88 or 89) was a big upgrade for them and a return to a more "traditional" style of US news presentation.
  6. It also happens to be an open so stereotypically 80s that it would appear in a period piece. Plus I love how these opens have the most unusual production tracks.
  7. An entire WXFL 6pm newscast from 1985 (A-block linked, but the B and C blocks are up too): This person probably worked there because, well...
  8. Yeah, bland is just about what I'd use. You can tell the bare minimum went into presentation across the board. KIMA had a couple fairly bland looks (and, inexplicably, one of Gari's most obscure news music packages). KAPP had generic logos, cheap presentation and then a bad KXLY knockoff. KNDO had a really generic open in 1993 and a bad open in early 1996 (using the same "squares" look that I associated with WRTV and WANE in some off colors). KNDO-KNDU *really* improved from a presentation standpoint when they went to the WHEC knockoff look later in '96.
  9. It's a Yakima feast! KAPP 35 with opens featuring News Watch (2:41) and Total News Cue11 (14:49): And KIMA with Working for You Gari: And there's KNDO stuff too: The Place to Be at 6:45 and Primetime News at 12:56:
  10. That KSTS open is a rarity. It's been a good year for obscure Spanish-language news opens. I'm glad it was the only one the guy didn't talk over! EDIT: It's also from the *first year* of the news operation. Hah! Apparently they started only at 6pm and expanded to 11pm not long after.
  11. I'd actually never heard the image song before, but I do believe at least parts of Pride Inside, and possibly the news package, were for CHCH. (I'm probably wrong on the whole package idea.) It debuted at least in 1988 (they had in February and ). We'd need an open from late 1988 to compare because in 1989 both CHCH and WBAL were using the main news package. I *do* think there were custom combo cuts for CHCH (Pride Inside/On Your Side referenced in BMI).
  12. CHCH had some custom cuts. There's a Pride Inside-On Your Side cut apparently used for the weekend CHCH Newsroom newscasts. It's in BMI! Here's some other CHCH from that era: I kinda think that Pride Inside might have been a custom for CHCH...
  13. WLNE's 5pm news in 1992:
  14. "ASSIGNEE IS THE LICENSEE OF WMDT(DT), SALISBURY, MARYLAND (FACILITY ID 16455) AND WEVD-LP, DOVER, DELAWARE (FACILITY ID 16456) AND THE PERMITEE OF WGDV-LD, SALISBURY, MARYLAND (FACILITY ID 187979). THE OWNERS OF LICENSEE ALSO HOLD ATTRIBUTABLE INTERESTS IN THE LICENSEE OF WGTA(DT), TOCCOA, GEORGIA (FACILITY ID 63329)." This feels like a spectrum sale (KREG is on UHF) but wouldn't it be a little late for that?
  15. A not too revealing 30 second clip of KTVO in 1992: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdyTAx7XraY They had a 3 logo similar to KVBC and WWMT, it appears.
  16. KCRL news break from 1980: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=1SiLQ4wIKwI;t=116 KSTW in 1983: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qptPuY7rNsQ
  17. The Montana map had potential but was being horribly used. The "KTVH/KBGF" branding was a mouthful, too.
  18. Wow, I've never heard that cut before! Speaking of Chattanooga... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4TtpYd7Hh4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLLZy3161E0 The first clip is from 1976. There's a close with Autobahn. The second is from December 1980 (not sure why there's WDEF stuff on WRCB's channel, but the bulk of it is WRCB) and uses the NBC Nightly News theme of the era. The backdrops behind the anchors look kinda like the Hayes two-tone city skylines (see KTVY, KMOL and even WDBB) and I wonder if they had a Hayes open. There are many more WRCB clips from the 1970s to the present, pretty much covering all their modern history.
  19. A KNDO teaser in 1996 with Primetime News: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=7GAVstT788w;t=259 This would have been a new find if I didn't find a reference to this in ASCAP years ago. KNDO went full-WHEC later that year.
  20. I was the one with Your Kind of People. Years ago the NewsActive3 collection had the 1983 "First News" (5pm?) open. When it resurfaced in March 2013, I recorded it onto an MP3, which I promptly sent to the NMSA in March 2013. Nothing happened. I sent it again on April 2. This time, it sailed through, as it included the image package that had surfaced on YT. There's also now a second sung image song known and a second open cut (for their 10pm shows), but those are not in the NMSA. I have plenty of long-running problems with the NMSA. Composer IDs not posted (the WCPO 1986 theme from Jay Gilbert Productions, or the WHTM and WISC themes by Sheldon Elias). Missing themes (KGMB 1997). Failure to acknowledge image campaigns (We're Going Where You're Going aka KPNX 1985/86). But I continue to submit what I find, and that's been pivotal.
  21. Bad quality? I don't care, just look at this wonderful KCOP open from 1993! Honestly some of it still holds up today:
  22. It can take years for the NMSA to fix certain sorts of mistakes. Case in point: the CBS 1988 affiliate package.
  23. All You Need I think corresponds to the "1991" theme. "1994" is something a little different, and quite obviously it's a production track. (The open from that era could be approximated by overlaying the NMSA sample on the open.) That video is fun, too. Note the "24 Hour" animation with a placeholder still featuring Julius Hunter of KMOV!
  24. That noon open is an unholy marriage of eras. The production music in the tease is in the NMSA actually, as "WBNS 1994".
  25. That they did: "On May 1, 2016, we closed on the previously announced acquisition of KFXL (FOX) and KHGI, KHGI-LD, KWNB and KWNB-LD (ABC) in Lincoln, Nebraska for $31.3 million."
