This channel has a near-complete set of CHRO (Ottawa) opens. Probably my favorite, though, is this one, with a really underrated theme used by several of the NewNet stations:
-
KHQ, 1983:
-
Their mux has four subchannels. They did mention the CW subchannel would be available in HD on Time Warner Cable. This isn't Mexico where you can actually get away with MPEG-4 compression and offer two HD and some SD subs. Speaking of Spanish, MundoMax outlet KFWD Dallas has been sold to spectrum speculator NRJ for just shy of $10 million. It operates on VHF.
-
WKTV has picked up the CBS affiliation for Utica and will air CBS on one of its subchannels beginning next month.
-
KXLY weekend news, 1983. A spartan open and set:
-
There were at least three revisions of the package as used by WSOC, and VTS is responsible for some of them.
-
Well it may be helpful if they want to increase their stake in Univision. They own a small slice of the company and get some $310 million a year in royalties. But I can't see them expanding in Mexico, not when they have "preponderant economic agent" status in the broadcasting market. Azteca will certainly be happy, though.

Could more foreign ownership be in store for American broadcasting? The FCC today proposed to extend its streamlined common carrier ownership procedures to broadcasting. The rule would codify the FCC's existing policy of allowing more than 25% foreign ownership of a broadcast licensee under review. There are already some stations with interesting ownership structures, particularly where the US-Mexico border is concerned. My personal favorite is R Communications (a boatload of radio stations and KMBH in Brownsville, Texas), whose owner is related to Grupo RCG in the state of Coahuila as well as NRT Communications Group (KVAW Eagle Pass, Texas, and radio stations in Monclova, Coahuila). (It's a knotty mess made worse by political scandal.) In LA, KXOS FM 93.9 is effectively owned and operated by Grupo Radio Centro, which owns 12 Mexico City radio stations and is related to a family business that owns dozens more in the rest of the country. And while Pappas still owns the lion's share of KAZA there, Azteca basically operates the station.

Looks like a cheap version of the red-white-blue stripes opens that WXIA, KPNX and (later) KMST would use.
-
Is this the 1970s? One TV station is debuting a 7-shaped desk on their new set.
-
That's why I chose it. There was also a Brisbane version done and I think Melbourne and Adelaide as well.
-
Not in 4:3, natch, but WPVI promos from the 80s...on WPVI's own YT channel!
-
Well this is interesting. It might seem like another WSOC open from 1987: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wb7IVxYjboM But the teaser bed is a VTS package, listed as The Team to Watch. This is not surprising.

Two short excerpts: KPNX in 1997. I have never seen these L3s before: And here's 30 seconds or so of KNXV from the period:

This is one of my favorite series of news opens, ever, anywhere, and is it me or is this more like 60fps? More Internet Archive stuff I just never saw: WGPR "Morning Magazine". Any WGPR is a most welcome sight! KSEE 6pm, c1988. This was the first variant of this open before they changed their name to "KSEE 24 Hour News":
-
Their rating position behind WBNG and potentially their switch to Fox, which occurred not long after this open series, have not helped in the long run.
-
WICZ in 1995: Very attractive logo. The station-made talent part of the open is noticeable.
-
Sorta similar to WPRI at the time period too with the short open, sung jingle but no VO. It's gotta be Internet Archive/tobacco material but I cannot find it. WHAS 1998 (this open was done by Television by Design): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9X_Io_-_1A
Hey @Raymie, I'm not sure if I ever passed that tidbit over to Mr. NMSA, so feel free to pass along. I have confirmation over that two ways. Back in the day, I asked WLOX Op. Manager Roger Garrett where it came from also reached out to Jeff a few years ago. He was shocked anyone remembered the theme. I thought it was a great tune. He is the owner of Ford Soundesign out of Baton Rouge. Ugggh, can't seem to figure out how to make a quote with the new design, I clicked the quote button..... oh well I'll figure it out!
I'll let you do that. Just hit "Reply" on the post you want to quote: you can click the Quote button on multiple posts and do a multi-quote.

Jeff Ford, huh? That info is not in the NMSA.

KNXV, January 1, 2002: Pretty much everything would change in a few months: set, anchors, graphics, music. Speaking of which, what is this music theme anyway? It's best heard in the opening tease and in the close. The day's KPHO newscast is also available, and again, everything was set to change:
-
Looks like they went with Evolution for their news music and Charlie Van Dyke for their VO. That's a big relaunch for them.
-
Wow, that's a big promotion for Adam Longo. Best of luck to him.
-
In fact, Image IX, X, Spirit News and the 1987 update to Image IV are also based off the theme. —————— WAAY promo, 1994: And some outtakes from Canada's Thunder Bay Television:

Under the hammer: the KX system in North Dakota, to Nexstar from family ownership, for $44 million. Nexstar will also take over the services contract for the ABC affiliates in central and western North Dakota.
