  1. Okay, so we all noticed that mysterious new ticker they introduced on the NFL coverage this year. Looking closer, at it, I did notice one thing: the IndyCar races have been using a slightly different design for the leaderboard tally than NASCAR (for one, always using the vertical one. The NASCAR coverage seems to flip-flop), a darker green flag color, and bits and pieces of this one graphic (particularly the title/lap count. Everything else still uses the normal fonts) use a font that is not otherwise used anywhere else in NBC's current package but is on that new ticker.
  2. ACC Network launched; I noticed from the clips that their studio insert graphics are different from the existing stock ESPN graphics, plus these motion graphics can be best described as "weirdly satisfying".
  3. The Open is on, and Golf Channel shockingly didn't update its Open-specific graphics to match the new flatter package it started using this season. Though they also don't seem to be using their own coverage: I think they're using Sky commentators but with GC graphics. It just feels less bespoke than how they did it in the past. Rather low quality for a major.
  4. The College World Series is using the current MLB scoreboard now
  5. Darn it https://variety.com/2019/tv/news/sinclair-disney-regional-sports-network-deal-1203204685/ is the link
  6. New tidbits not mentioned here: New owner is called Diamond Sports Group (perhaps they might be rebranding FSN with some sort of Diamond-based name? A diamond is a type of Stadium), and Entertainment Studios has an equity stake as a "content partner". Bryon Allen has been hitting some unexpected home runs recently.
  7. KOMO has them now. Bug has a tacky black extension for the KOMOnews.com URL below it, and "WeatherWarn Team" does not have the same ring "Forecast Team" had, but otherwise still better than the previous ones.
  8. NBC appeared to be experimenting with taking a Sky Sports feed (though with NBC's scoreboard overlaid on top of the Sky one) on its Premier League streaming. Also led to this, but It's not like Canada puts up with promos like this slipping through too (honestly TSN, given Bell owns the HBO channel here, would also be likely to plug Crave for this too)
  9. It looks like, despite it actually being illegal to do so in Canada if you're at a "Standstill", TVA Sports did get pulled from Bell. Steve Faguy's blog (he's a media writer for the Montreal Gazette) has a massive breakdown of the situation. Bell has been retaliating, even though one of them surely benefits its main English rival: The affected subscribers are getting Sportsnet's three main networks (regionals, One, and 360) for free for the duration of the dispute (which have the English coverage) TSN has suddenly added a few more Montreal Impact matches to its MLS schedule (their French "regional" package is with TVA Sports)
  10. Although outright pulling channels in a carriage dispute is actually illegal in Canada, Quebecor is getting into U.S. style mudslinging over its disputes with Bell over carriage of its TVA Sports channel (which competes with Bell's RDS, the French TSN, but is on a worse tier than RDS on Bell satellite)
  11. CBC seems to be undergoing a rebrand with a new wordmark (is that Gotham? The sports department seemed to have been favouring Gotham since the 2015 Pan-Am Games). CBC Sports had updated its logo, I saw a promo for CBC News with a similar style logo, and some of their regional social media outlets have been using it too They had phased in new local graphics based on the CBC News Network refresh. But could something based on The National's current design work well locally? Oddly enough this new Sports logo reminds me a lot of their red/blue logo from the 90's.
  12. As predicted, NBC is using a similar pared-down production for the new Augusta Women's Amateur as CBS does for the Masters. Honestly, I think they look a little better than the default Golf Channel graphics
  13. They seem to use the same BottomLine instance for all feeds. Even TSN2 had its own instance prior to the "split" (which, honestly, I thought was when they were going to go to the grey ticker, for some reason. But no) Ever since they switched to the current SC graphics, they've had a few graphical elements more in line with the current boxy/Helvetica scheme, but not everything. It really makes me hope they just chuck this in the trash when CFL season starts.
  14. This is more related to ESPN's minority partner, but TSN finally updated its BottomLine (which was based off the previous, red glossy version, even as ESPN went to the grey one) to match the current ESPN design. TSN's not using the same "format" for every single banner ad in the corner though like ESPN. Personally, I'm quite shocked they kept the colors intact and didn't tint it dark red (given they even had the current SportsCenter graphics touched up to have more red in them to match the rest of their inserts) The timing was a bit weird: you'd think they would have had this premiering at the start of the NCAA tournament (but thenagain, they've always been weird and wonky with graphics rollouts. The only time they ever did one sensibly, was premiering the current hockey scoreboard at the start of an NHL season.)
  15. It's barely 3 months old, but ESPN has already re-upped its UFC contract into a seven-year deal. Plus, UFC pay-per-views will be exclusive to and only sold to ESPN+ subscribers (I can see this potentially backfiring: how long until they have to decouple it, but conveniently provide a small discount to subscribers? Though the UFC has been a major help for ESPN+'s growth...) In other news, ESPNU accidentally leaked the Women's NCAA tournament bracket via errant L-bar graphics during its Bracketology this afternoon.
  16. Eurosport unveiled its logo for its 2020 Olympics coverage Let's just say they went in a very different direction over NBC.
  17. We got more Sky cross-pollination this week, this time with Golf Channel and, ahem, "Sky Sports The Players" (usually known as Sky Sports Golf), for the, well Players. Sky appears to be producing the "On the Range" program airing tomorrow afternoon.. However, I expect things to really get interesting once we get to the Open Championship...
  18. Canadian parliament broadcasts got some new graphics Little bit more intrusive but definitely doesn't feel like an upscale relic of the early 2000's now.
  19. TownNews seems to be growing in adoption: Cowles' stations (such as https://www.khq.com/ ) are using it for their websites now instead of Worldnow
  20. So the current version of this PC football game series Axis Football has a scoreboard reminiscent of the current Fox graphics On the other hand, the 2017 version seems to take after CBS Either way, the older you get, the more they start to look like preseason.
  21. Add WBAL's sports director as a critic of those new "For Birdie" graphics on NBC
  22. We're getting our first on-air crossover with NBC's new British counterpart soon: On Thursday, Sky Sports News will simulcast a block of coverage of the transfer deadline for English football on NBCSN, followed by continued coverage from NBC's Premier League pundits with reports from Sky anchors.
  23. GMA Day is becoming Strahan & Sara today. I always felt that name was like a placeholder. And that new set actually looks pretty nice.
  24. A montage of animated bumpers from Globo in Brazil Some of these actually make up for how overdesigned their branding was at the time.
  25. UFC on ESPN ... Plus, begins tonight Shockingly, they're actually using the default UFC graphics package from the pay-per-views
