1. You're correct. American Spirit and Raycom are 2 totally independent entities and each has to negotiate their own carriage agreements (Same for Mission/Nexstar and Sinclair/Cunningham). The "side car" stations may be run out of the other station (for example, the Raycom station provides Master Control and Playout services to the American Spirit station for a fee, provides a newscast for a fee, etc.), but other entities (marketing) are supposed to be completely independent (they may be independent, they may be linked at the hip...). Many times (but not always) the main station (Raycom, Nexstar, Sinclair, etc.) is a Big 4 station (with an easier carriage mandate), and the side-car station (American Spirit, Mission, Cunningham) is an independent/CW/MyNet station (with less of a desire to pay [as much as the bigger station]). Hope this helps. Jim
2. I didn't say they were all good... Just a "nice" variety from the past... Basically the station was run almost like a radio station that ran almost all syndicated fare. At the time, the 47News rebroadcast was probably the highlight of the broadcast day... J

5. Much better graphics... And I see that NewsActive3 has posted the KNAZ May 2, 1994 newscast... Hmmm... Out of courtesy to the original "owners" of newscasts, I have no plans to post any newscasts that were traded for (unless they were original off-air specifically for me, and not a copy of a copy...). That being said, if I post something that was generated by someone else, please let me know and I'll take it down... Jim
6. With all of the focus on Central Arizona, I needed to throw in a few Northern Arizona pieces! (And for the 7 of you who already found the newscasts, they have been "fixed", if you understand what I mean...) 7. Here's the rest of what I have from my trip to the San Francisco Bay Area from July 1992: 3 Newscasts plus a compilation of the remaining "bits". KNTV (San Jose/San Francisco, CA) July 16, 1992 11:00pm I love this theme - very creative use of the song... Remainder Compilation - July 1992 Pardon the video from KSBW - the source video is crappy, but the music comes through and you can see enough to get an idea. Also, catch KICU as its own, separate from KTVU...
8. As I'm going through stuff on discs and looking for newscasts I know I have (somewhere on tape...), I wish I could go back in time to my early newscast recording self and give myself a few pieces of advice: 1) ,Record the entire newscast - I spent too much time recording the open and close, ignoring the middle... 2) Label the Video Tape right after it's recorded - with details - not just "Detroit" or "Programs"... 3) Put the full date and time and the station on the tape... 4) Keep detailed records in a simple spreadsheet (and occasionally print it out)... I have details in a database that I can no longer open - and can no longer find... Since the last thing printed was in 2006, no telling which computer it was on... (and I no longer have said computer...). Anyway, more stuff coming with the new week... Jim

11. I'm going through everything methodically, migrating from DVD to hard drive(s). I'm prioritizing the posting based on newscast age - the older the better. (I haven't run across my KCEN 1987 newscast yet, but do have the tape, if I need to re-digitize it...) If I run across any pre-2000, they'll get posted, once converted and I don't run out of space for the week (I get 5GB upload/week, unless I upgrade to 20GB - which I'm thinking of doing, but need to save a little money up first). Once/If I upgrade, get ready for a slew of stuff, up through about 2006...
12. I'm trying to recall who did WRCB's. When I worked at KAMU in the late 80s, there was some internal feeds for stations, where they'd showcase a designer, to promote creative ideas (i.e., when stations had graphics staffs, and that was a PBS station with no local news...). I believe it was whomever designed the WDIV graphics late 80s/early 90s using First News (where "News 4" flies in and "bounces" off the screen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vfR6KD6QZc, WKXT Knoxville's Great News open (Logo here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bdk3NfOwEEI) WBAL's Pride Inside Open (though this isn't the one I have somewhere): WFMY was also a client as was KJRH with their 80s' 2 logo. The design house used a lot of static "cut out"/silhouetted shots and "flying 3D Text" images (aka the end of the WRCB open). I'll see if I can find the original feature... Jim

14. I was a bit sad with audio at the end - I was expecting a full long close, and someone cut out the theme, leaving the SoT remnants. I really enjoy then themes that are clearly developed with a full orchestration. KTVT has had 2 good ones (in my mind): EarWitness News and their custom "The Eye of Texas".
15. Now for 2 Springfields, D/FW Network Affiliation Switch, and another from, to quote Wikipedia, the market that has "no basis in television reality": Lincoln, Hastings, Grand Island, Kearney, NE. 18. I'm guessing that ctmikect was someone I traded with a while back, as that was on one of my original "mix tapes" of newscast opens and promos... I think I have the entire KPNX newscast on VHS - hopefully it's already digitized. I've fixed the KSAZ open date... To say goodnight to everyone - remember to "Team Up with NewsChannel 3!" (and if I find anything new from Phoenix, it will have to wait until next week, as I've hit my weekly quota on Vimeo...) And back to our regularly scheduled newscasts from the 90s... Jim
19. I thought Patty Kirkpatrick had gone over to KTVK/3 at this time. I have a Channel 3 Promo that goes (to the Can-Can song): It's Cameron Harper, Cater Lee at 5 o'clock on TV3. Patty teams with Heidi now, 6pm, Holy Cow. Cameron's back and so is Heidi, 10pm Monday through Friday. Only on Newschannel 3, Arizona's Family.
20. I believe it's a MJPEG codec - but can't remember the capture card manufacturer... Hopefully I'll find the original tape or the full-resolution digitized version soon... The DVD drive on this machine has been working overtime. I've copied from DVD or CD to a hard drive over 839 newscast files and counting (note: some early hour-long newscasts are split into to, as that's all that would fit on a CD at the time...). I may have to upgrade my Vimeo account if I want to upload everything... (That's my eventual goal...)
21. Now to make folks (somewhat) happy... Here's what Raymie is looking for - I apologize for the low resolution, but the larger format is an AVI file that I need to find the Codec for - it just shows up as "green lines" on the screen, and my video editing software just gives me a black screen... Cue the Deathstar... Live from KPNX, Channel 12 - Your choice for Real Life, Real News in the 90s - Kent Dana, Jineane Ford, Bill Austin weather, and Bill Denney's Sports - 12 News Tonight Then... I'll take your wolf's howl and eagle screech and raise you a retiree's "Thwack" of a golf ball at 6am! Enjoy! Jim
22. I'm not in support of the merger, but I will say one thing about the commentaries from Sinclair - at least they don't make it look like it's a part of the newscast - different graphics, theme, look, etc. If you like the news on Sinclair's Local 37, but don't like the commentaries - perfect time to visit the crapper, walk the dog, or whatever makes you happy. J
23. Basically, with ABC in College Football mode on Saturdays and ABC Sports on Sundays (which could run long), I'm guessing they got tired of the "will it or won't it air", and just is running on the CW, which we all know, is rife with potential program blocking concerns...
24. Time for some Grand Rapids, Michigan!
