  1. Can’t imaging working in their Southeast bureau: “Reporting from the Southeastern bureau of North Central West Virginia’s News Station, I’m…”
  2. I have 2 newscasts from the late 90s/early 2000s from KGWC/KLWY. It was the same newscast (anchor, stories, mispronunciation, etc.), but with different graphics and theme for the Fox feed vs. the CBS feed…. Basically, they either taped it, or aired it live at 9pm, and then took a clean feed and inserted different graphics for the 10pm feed… Jim
  3. I’m uploading as much as I can in my spare time. So far I have 90 newscasts uploaded, mostly 88-92 timeframe and am now working on the 93-95 window. My goal is to have 200 uploaded by Labor Day. I just missed posting a couple of “30 Years Ago Today” newscasts on the actual day (Doh!). After about 95, I’ll have to start digitizing from tape until about 1999, where I have quite a few digitized already…
  4. I have no idea who made the call on closing my account. Vimeo hasn't responded to my request - granted it was using the "Help" form on their page. Their page says "Email Us", yet they don't provide an email address. Most of their contact is accessible when logged in - and I can't log in... I'm pissed - 4 years worth of work spent uploading stuff is all gone... I'm just going to focus on the internet archive - and only stuff over 10 years old (I'll keep collecting current stuff, as that 10 year window keeps moving forward... At this point, if folks download content, so be it. I just want to share all that I have captured and collected over the years. I guarantee, like you said @VHSgoodiesWA, I doubt the local stations have any of this content in their archives - it takes a lot of space and time to manage, and with cost cutting measures everyone seems to be putting in place, a lot of the history is moot to them...
  5. A quick scan of one hard drive has over 1900 files (which basically equate to newscasts, and doesn’t include things on other drives). So it may take a while, since each one has to be uploaded individually… Jim
  6. Once I get enough videos uploaded, I'll request a channel. Also, I have to convert the MPEG4 .ts files to MPEG4 .mp4 files... (That I can batch process...) Once they're there, though, I guess there's no protecting them from being downloaded (not that folks didn't find a way to download or capture stuff already...)
  7. I guess I'm restarting there... My biggest complaint is that newscasts appear to get broken into 1 minute chunks... (and my experience has also been that it's not seamless between segments...) Jim
  8. I've reached out to Vimeo with no response - I've not received any notices (and I checked my email history going back years). The account is just gone... To me, it's one thing if this was something that could be monetized, but these are historic newscasts - which I pretty much guarantee most of the stations no longer have in their archives. It's like blocking history from folks. I could understand if the content were able to be viewed elsewhere (e.g., game shows, cartoons, etc.), but local news is local history that you probably can't get anywhere else. I challenge you to find a (for example) KCBD newscast from February 1994 in any library or even at KCBD itself... I'm pissed as I was given no warning, nor remedy. I guess I need to find a library or something to donate them to, so that they're available for research in the future. I have thousands recorded, and now do I keep cataloging them or just give up? Jim And do I keep recording them into the future??? Heck - most of the copyright holders of the original content aren't even in existence anymore...
  9. A few newscasts from what I call my "Fringe Edition" - Stations not based in the main area of the market (Huntington Beach vs. LA, Conroe vs. Houston, Allentown vs. Philly, Santa Rosa vs. San Francisco and Flagstaff vs. Phoenix), as well as some very cringe-worthy offerings (KKTM and KTBU, IMHO). Bonus Points for anyone who makes it through Dan Patrick's KTBU "Newscast"... Extra Bonus Point for KKTM's...
  10. A few from Canada: CKY Winnipeg before CTV took over from Moffatt Communications CICT Calgary before the rebranding as Global CIVT Vancouver before the switch to CTV - I love this theme!
  11. Now that I'm back from vacation...
  12. Unfortunately, that is one of the few markets I have no newscasts from. I’m still going through old tapes, but have not been to central Washington. Jim
  13. Some American Southwest... (More Phoenix on the way later this week...) KVBC (Las Vegas) 5/3/94 5pm (Missing the end of the newscast) KVBC (Las Vegas) 5/11/99 6pm KVVU (Las Vegas) 5/11/99 10pm KLAS (Las Vegas) 5/11/99 5pm KGUN (Tucson) 11/16/02 5pm
  14. More early 90s stuff: KFMB (San Diego) July 10, 1991 6:30pm KGTV (San Diego) July 11, 1991 6:30pm WDSU (New Orleans) April 3, 1992 10:00pm WALA (Mobile) April 4, 1992 6:00pm KOLN/KGIN (Lincoln) April 27, 1993 10:00pm
  15. interesting, as KRBC (also in the Abilene market) used the theme in the mid 90s... Jim
  16. OK - I have to call you on this one... The Eyes of Texas ran for over 30 years (1969-1999, original run; repeats through the 2000s) - definitely not short lived. Growing up in Houston in the 70s: Saturday Night at 6:30pm on Channel 2 - that was appointment TV! While it was the original, its primary "competitor", 4 Country Reporter/8 Country Reporter/Texas Country Reporter - out of Dallas - is still going strong closing in on 50 years on the air (1972-present), still producing new episodes each year. You don't see many shows like these two much now.
  17. Not much left pre-2000 - but I still have some tapes and discs to go through, so who knows... (Now is when I wish I had just flat out recorded full newscasts on my travels - I never went anywhere without either a Betamax (or 2), S-VHS deck and/or 8mm recorders...).
  18. This clears out everything I have digitized on the computer through 1992. Enjoy! WTVJ (Miami, FL) December 31, 1988 11:00pm Newscast repeat from the night of switching from CBS to NBC. Lots of "Don't Worry, Be Happy" promos... https://vimeo.com/527541034 WKTV (Utica, NY) October 20, 1991 6:00pm https://vimeo.com/522611254 WBNG (Binghamton, NT) October 20, 1991 11:00pm (Short Newscast) https://vimeo.com/529540745 WVUE (New Orleans) April 3, 1992 6:00pm https://vimeo.com/522613208 WXXV (Gulfport/Biloxi) April 3, 1992 9:00pm (Mississippi News Tonight, also aired on WDBD, Jackson) https://vimeo.com/522612524 KUVN (Dallas/Ft. Worth) August 28, 1992 5:00pm https://vimeo.com/522609817 KDFW (Dallas/Ft. 19. More mid-90s Goodness: https://vimeo.com/channels/1672797 Spokane, WA: KXLY Denver: KCNC, KMGH Lubbock: KCBD, KAMC Jim
  20. I've not had anything pulled so far... But I've been with them for years, back when they were trying to be an alternative to YouTube. Now that their focus has changed to industry professionals - I'm thinking they're looking for certain types of material, and so far, my content hasn't raised any flags. It's also very easy to fly under the radar, if you're not promoting things (I have video linking turned off, etc.). That being said, I also have everything I've uploaded saved in multiple places, so if necessary, it can be positioned elsewhere if needed. Finally, at some point, I'd like to donate the content to a university or library system that will manage it and make it available to the masses. Jim
  21. More updates on my Non-YouTube Page. I plan to add some more tomorrow or Monday. Enjoy! 2021 Videos on Vimeo (https://vimeo.com/channels/1672797) 2005 Lubbock, TX: KCBD, KLBK, KAMC, and KJTV 2006 Columbus, OH: WWHO Jim
  22. ... waiting for Sinclair to build one or more regional "News Hubs" with multiple studios to be able to provide simultaneous newscasts with one set of infrastructure for the group of stations... Each would have its own set of anchors (not the NewsCentral idea), but those same anchors can server multiple stations across time zones... Taking their existing "shared news operations" up a notch... Jim
