1. No - but WAGA was dropping CBS programming left and right around that time... CBS This Morning aired on WTLK/14 (out of Rome, GA) - TV Guide in Atlanta had the show on 12/13/14!
2. Last one for the weekend... This one came from a business trip to New Jersey (Philly area) that spanned 2 weeks, and we had a long weekend stuck in the middle - rather than head home, I headed west... (plus into the nearby markets in the evening...). The Ohio/West Virginia part of the trip is coming soon... - Any idea of the WBOC close music? I don't think it's the same package as the open, but it sounds familiar... - Gotta love WLYH's Action News open - straight from the 70s, IMHO... - Looks like KDKA's morning news ran from 6am - 8am at this point. - Contrary to what the NMSA says, MCTYW aired on WOLF at this time (along with WWLF/56 and WILF/53 - both satellites of WOLF/38). I have lots of boxes full of video tapes going back 30 years, along with stuff I've already digitized that's already on DVD right now (chekcing to make sure I'm not redigitizing stuff) - I'm trying to get it onto the computer and posted as quickly as I can, but can only go as fast as the process allows: - VHS/Betamax/8mm > DVD Recorder - DVD > Computer - (If clips) editing he raw footage down - Convert to MP4 - Upload to a hosting site - Link to the site from TVNewsTalk.net - Update my webpage (which I am very behind in doing...) If you've ever followed the process, you understand how long it takes. I've been collecting newscasts for a long time, and processing takes a while for the older stuff... Jim
3. One of today's tapes is from my Gulf Coast trip to the Florida Panhandle in July 1995. WEAR 5pm; WMBB 5pm; WTVY 6pm; WDHN 10pm; WHOA (Promo); WEAR 6pm; WJHG 5pm; WPMI 6am; WALA 10pm; KLFY 12pm ("Meet Your Neighbor"); WLOX 4pm; WLOX 5pm; WKRG 6pm; KATC 5:30pm; WMBB 11am; WTVY 5pm; WJHG 6pm; WPGX 9pm (Audio Only); WSFA 10pm; WALA 10pm (again...) Notes: WHOA is just a promo for their 5pm anchor, but I don't recognize the music; WPGX is audio only - due to Summer Gulf Tropo, WFTS in Tampa in was splattering all over the signal (plus probably WTGS/Savannah was in the mix) - at least I caught the audio and some of the station ID slide...; I'm guessing WPMI was "starting out" their news operation by this time, as they became the NBC affiliate on Jan. 1, 1996 - WALA's owners were already linked to Fox by this time (and WLUK was switching in about a month from this point). Cable in Destin at the time had WEAR, WTVY, WJHG, WMBB, and WPMI (these were the only news-producing local stations).
4. They had a similar (if not the same) 3 inside a square/rectangle (along with 2, 8 & 11 for the rest of the KSN) when they were using NewsWire... Never saw inside a circle... J
5. Somewhere I have the WTVK newscast that's been around the trading circuit, and just pulled some 2004 newscasts off of DVD, but that's about it from Knoxville. Now that I'm back home from Thanksgiving, back to getting stuff off of tape and DVD...
6. I have some SLC which I'm posting soon (probably tomorrow) and have posted all Omaha that I believe I have. (But then again, one never knows what one will find on an unlabeled tape - and I have lots of them!) Jim
7. More clips from the 1994 July/August Indiana/Illinois trip, plus a few leftovers from the Atlanta/Charlotte trip (earlier posts). Few Comments; - I totally disagree with WHBQ's slogan - KFVS had the same graphics back in 1987 - I'm still a big fan of the Everyday News Package Jim
8. Last set of clips until the weekend... Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Georgia / Alabama / Louisiana - September 1994 Atlanta, Macon, Columbus (GA), Birmingham, Anniston, Tuscaloosa, Baton Rouge, Lafayette and Lake Chuck.
9. That's probably all I have, but I'll keep looking - my grandmother moved upstate in 1994, and going forward, there's more Albany than any place else...
10. I have the one I've posted from WBRZ in 1994 - I suspect I also have a WAFB from the same trip (different tape, though), and just ran across the WBTR/19 "Baton Rouge Today" open. I have some New Orleans from the early 90s somewhere... Also, I'm beginning to wonder - did I do any work in 1994??? Jim
11. Northeast US, October 1994 Sorry for the heavy WNBC rotation, but I love that theme. I also found it interesting WCBS was still using the "I Love Chicago" theme for the traffic open... I'm a fan of WBAL's open - to me, at least, it's in the class with WBTV's from the same timeframe. I have more from this trip (some Canada/northern NY, as well as west Tennessee), coming soon! Jim
12.
@compubit I've two questions for you: 1- How did you record TV from a car? 2- When you traveled to the Northeast in 1994, did you visit New England?
Back in the day... 1) I had a Sony VideoWalkman as well as my Super-VHS deck and an 8mm tape deck, and 2) a DC/AC converter (plugs into the cigarette lighter and provides 120V out), and 3) a thing called (as I was originally taught) an aerial, but nowadays it's called an antenna. If you connect them up, you could record stuff off the air! It was amazing! In reality, I just hooked stuff up and recorded - I'd take the 8mm and S-VHS decks, tune them in using the screen on the Video Walkman, then lastly tune the video to record. I learned that you have to be careful with grounding and the antenna to the car, or you end up with white noise (you can see it in some of the videos...) As for Northeast 1994, I don't think so - I have some Burlington, VT, but started in NYC, moved my grandmother to outside of Albany, then did the loop trip up I-87 to Montreal, down through Toronto, and then back to Albany, then headed back to Texas with my mom (thus the Hagerstown/Baltimore, Knoxville & Nashville). I have more, but will have to edit it together once I get it off of tape... Jim
13. Not east, but south... You beat me to the post... Jim
14. Carolinas from September 1994 I hope everyone has a nice Thanksgiving week! Newscast opens and other clips from the Carolinas in 1994. Please pardon the quality on some of the clips - they were often recorded off-air from my car on this trip... 15. At the start, NewsBeat started at 6pm. 6, 6 & 11 - I couldn't remember if there was a midday - I didn't think so, but after 25+ years, my memory about Philly news isn't as good as it once was... I have a 1994 Northeast trip I'm editing together (in reality, pulling out the stuff around the newscast opens, etc.) Jim
16. Philadelphia, December 1991 KYW was simultaneously running two separate formats: Eyewitness News at 6pm and The News Tonight at 11pm, even with different reporters on the same story... I have no idea what other dayparts were running (early morning and midday - if they even had a midday newscast). By February, everything was was new format/theme/graphics. Also WPVI and WHYY... Sorry for the earlier mis-post - the video wasn't rendering properly...

18. That puts the newscast in line with the KSAZ & KPNX newscasts - I was trying to figure out why the spread in dates... J
19. Hello, Houston!
20. Few more Phoenix I just found... (I also have a KPNX & a KSAZ from the same timeframe, but the upload craps out...) KNXV (Phoenix) March 14, 1999 5:30pm (Originally posted as May 14, 1999) KPHO (Phoenix) February 3, 1999 6:00pm

22. And one more from the "20 Years ago today..." collection... (this is all I've found so far from this trip...) KABC (Los Angeles) November 15, 1997 11:00pm
23. From the "20 Years ago today..." collection, which means, I was in the LA area 20 years ago today! KCBS (Los Angeles) November 14, 1997 11:00pm
24. Before calling it a weekend... Philly (just found this today). WPHL (Philadelphia) April 24, 1997 10:00pm Later this week (and in December), I'll have some "20 Years ago today" newscasts. I have lots of opens from the late 80s and early 90s, but not as many full newscasts, as I had to cart a VHS machine when I traveled, and that usually meant traveling by car... (though the stuff from Thanksgiving 1992 came from checking my S-VHS machine in my suitcase...) ~93/94 I picked up an 8mm recorder, and that's when I started getting more full newscasts. As for right now, I'm getting things off of DVD - once that's done, I'll start attacking tapes. Jim
25. Cable? Who watches cable anymore? That's so 1980s!!!! J/K Jim
