I do have an answer as to KYW's 6am newscast in late 1991: They were using NewsDay with Pat Ciarrocchi solo anchoring (Howard Eskine wasn't on the scene yet). (Just found a clip) Also at this time, Jennifer Ward did the 11pm news also solo - it sounds like KYW had gutted the staff and was rebuilding. The 6pm Eyewitness News had only Steve Bell solo anchoring (Beverly Williams had been shipped to weekends along with Lou Tilley...) I did find a nearly complete December 1991 Eyewitness News from KYW (Pat was subbing for Steve) and will be posting it hopefully tomorrow... Jim

Ok - it's officially here! Ohio January 1993 - Really love WHIZ-TV's Open - can you get more generic? This Region? This Vicinity? This Area? And The World! - Also, can't place the theme they briefly use on their ID - Not a big fan of WCMH's theme, except for the close - would be interested in hearing the complete treatment - Wish I had more from WJW - the theme is so quiet in the morning newscast... - Unfortunately, no WUAB - the VCR froze up after bringing into the hotel room from the car without giving it time warm up (condensation...). Here we go with the WJZ, WBAL and WMAR 11pm newscasts from September 17, 1992. First Up: WJZ: No Denise tonight, but someone forgot to change the closing script... (check out the very end of the newscast to see how Al Sanders rolls with it!) I don't remember this open/Chroma Cues variation, but it's not bad. I am trying to figure out what the opening graphics mean... [MEDIA=vimeo]244942607[/MEDIA] WBAL: First off is the end of the WBAL version of the "This is CBS" promo - I think the 'BAL lyrics are a heck of a lot better than the network ones... Second - The theme doesn't have the same impact (to me) that Pride Inside or Signature have - it's just "there". Finally - Butch Alsandor (nice guy, I met him at Houston Texans or Astros game) was busy that day - it looks like 'BAL didn't have anyone else in the Sports Department there... [MEDIA=vimeo]244943219[/MEDIA] Comparing the newscasts, it's easy to see why 'BAL and 'JZ were/are the market leaders over 'MAR and (the unseen) 'BFF (those cringeworthy clips are coming soon...).

Folks - The WJZ and Ohio clips were posted without me finishing up prepping them. I want to share with everyone, but need to get everything finished and cleaned up before posting. As soon as they're done on my end, I'll release them. This is the second time someone has been posting from my site before I got things finished up. I'm posting these out of the goodness of my heart - please allow me the courtesy of getting things prepped and squared away. I promise that I will post them as soon as they're ready. I've been spending many hours of my time getting these newscasts digitized, converted and uploaded. I'm sharing them with y'all, since they do absolutely nothing collecting dust in my basement. I'm posting as I find the tapes. If I have something, especially 1990s or earlier that I recorded, I'm posting as soon as it's done processing. I nearly wet myself (just a joke) when I found the tape with KYW and WJZ (it also has WHYY, WMAR, WBAL and a good chunk of WBFF - so far - there's some DC on it also...). No - but WAGA was dropping CBS programming left and right around that time... CBS This Morning aired on WTLK/14 (out of Rome, GA) - TV Guide in Atlanta had the show on 12/13/14!

Last one for the weekend... This one came from a business trip to New Jersey (Philly area) that spanned 2 weeks, and we had a long weekend stuck in the middle - rather than head home, I headed west... (plus into the nearby markets in the evening...). The Ohio/West Virginia part of the trip is coming soon... - Any idea of the WBOC close music? I don't think it's the same package as the open, but it sounds familiar... - Gotta love WLYH's Action News open - straight from the 70s, IMHO... - Looks like KDKA's morning news ran from 6am - 8am at this point. - Contrary to what the NMSA says, MCTYW aired on WOLF at this time (along with WWLF/56 and WILF/53 - both satellites of WOLF/38). One of today's tapes is from my Gulf Coast trip to the Florida Panhandle in July 1995. [MEDIA=vimeo]244566783[/MEDIA] WEAR 5pm; WMBB 5pm; WTVY 6pm; WDHN 10pm; WHOA (Promo); WEAR 6pm; WJHG 5pm; WPMI 6am; WALA 10pm; KLFY 12pm ("Meet Your Neighbor"); WLOX 4pm; WLOX 5pm; WKRG 6pm; KATC 5:30pm; WMBB 11am; WTVY 5pm; WJHG 6pm; WPGX 9pm (Audio Only); WSFA 10pm; WALA 10pm (again...) Notes: WHOA is just a promo for their 5pm anchor, but I don't recognize the music; WPGX is audio only - due to Summer Gulf Tropo, WFTS in Tampa in was splattering all over the signal (plus probably WTGS/Savannah was in the mix) - at least I caught the audio and some of the station ID slide...; I'm guessing WPMI was "starting out" their news operation by this time, as they became the NBC affiliate on Jan. 1, 1996 - WALA's owners were already linked to Fox by this time (and WLUK was switching in about a month from this point). Cable in Destin at the time had WEAR, WTVY, WJHG, WMBB, and WPMI (these were the only news-producing local stations).

They had a similar (if not the same) 3 inside a square/rectangle (along with 2, 8 & 11 for the rest of the KSN) when they were using NewsWire... Never saw inside a circle... J

Somewhere I have the WTVK newscast that's been around the trading circuit, and just pulled some 2004 newscasts off of DVD, but that's about it from Knoxville. Now that I'm back home from Thanksgiving, back to getting stuff off of tape and DVD...

I have some SLC which I'm posting soon (probably tomorrow) and have posted all Omaha that I believe I have. (But then again, one never knows what one will find on an unlabeled tape - and I have lots of them!) Jim

I have the one I've posted from WBRZ in 1994 - I suspect I also have a WAFB from the same trip (different tape, though), and just ran across the WBTR/19 "Baton Rouge Today" open. I have some New Orleans from the early 90s somewhere... Also, I'm beginning to wonder - did I do any work in 1994??? Jim

Northeast US, October 1994 Sorry for the heavy WNBC rotation, but I love that theme. I also found it interesting WCBS was still using the "I Love Chicago" theme for the traffic open... I'm a fan of WBAL's open - to me, at least, it's in the class with WBTV's from the same timeframe. I have more from this trip (some Canada/northern NY, as well as west Tennessee), coming soon! I learned that you have to be careful with grounding and the antenna to the car, or you end up with white noise (you can see it in some of the videos...) As for Northeast 1994, I don't think so - I have some Burlington, VT, but started in NYC, moved my grandmother to outside of Albany, then did the loop trip up I-87 to Montreal, down through Toronto, and then back to Albany, then headed back to Texas with my mom (thus the Hagerstown/Baltimore, Knoxville & Nashville). I have more, but will have to edit it together once I get it off of tape... Jim
