I like it. Not as flat as before with a bit more depth. Though I still think they should keep the white fill.

I believe, of all stations, WHAS in Louisville is one of the biggest in the entire company. Two full-sized studios (with two full sets even), and a third smaller one. Housed WHAS Radio for decades and had more radio booths in it too. It always surprised me they never tried to use them as a hub of some sort, there's a crap ton of space. As for KUSA, I've heard it's actually not that good of a building?

More specifically, everything after the ? in the link is useless tracking junk

Anyway, it's a nice look. It's something KDVR needs to pick up stat. Insane that all three Nexstar stations in the market look virtually indistinguishable. I feel like it cheapens the look of a top 20 station looking the same as Grand Junction.
-
This is going to continue into at least May. Undoubtedly Nexstar will appeal to the Ninth Circuit, and they'll probably try to move quickly with it. If Nexstar prevails, oh well, at least there was a concerted effort, but it still sucks. If Nexstar loses, then what? The only place from there is SCOTUS (unless they went crying directly to Trump). There's no guarantee SCOTUS would hear such a case like this.
-
Adding to the Speculatron here as I shouldn't be, but Nexstar would never give up KDVR. It's one of their best performing stations, a master control hub, and in a larger, newer building than KUSA. It even rents out space to Fox News.

I've had the impression that Nexstar and Tegna had begun the integration process BEFORE the sale was actually finalized, which seems illegal in and of itself. They owned Tegna for TWO DAYS before the TRO was issued. What could they have possibly done in two days that's so permanent it can't be undone? This is why I think the FCC had told Nexstar well before the sale was formally approved that it would happen no matter what and to basically go ahead and start acting as if the two had been merged. I'm starting to believe Nexstar didn't have any plan in place for any kind of lawsuit or what-if scenario of the deal being blocked.

Barring your NBC affiliates from taking NBC News special reports seems like a great way to have NBC strip all your affiliates of their affiliation.

KHQ has always baffled me. They've taken the exact same package and just modified it to death. They could ABSOLUTELY do better but insist upon...this.

"But we are! We're selling SIX stations!" Of which some are quite clearly worthless. Denver is one of the most egregious examples.
-
Worth noting this is just the direcTV suit. The lawsuit from the 8 states and Newsmax hasn't had any decision made yet.

This is quite nice and an upgrade. Who's the designer?

Longtime local news voice over Beau Weaver has apparently retired. Going from the News Music Search Archive, he's been doing voice overs since at least 1987 with WFLD. Many of his stations used him for many years. Some stations that used him seem to have already found a replacement (KDVR, WBNX, for starters).
-
The extended cuts are on the News Music Archive, and honestly, it's not bad. I think it's a definite upgrade over the a Capella stuff they had for way too long. Wouldn't mind a bit more bass in it though.

Looks like a wayyy turned down version of their 2008 or 9 look.

KMGH is a total dog in the market and virtually noncompetitive. KDVR and KUSA can pull in more viewers in the 25-54 demo than KMGH has total viewers.

Did the sponsorship really have to be mentioned in the OPEN? I'm almost certain that's a deal sales worked out for extra money. Cheapens the product right off the bat. That kind of stuff should be limited to commercial bumps.

Hey, it's still not as bad as once upon a time KWGN being known as "The Deuce"

Tegna sure does make bizarre music choices. The graphics are fine though.

WINK-TV/Fort Myers Broadcasting Company new facilities
MidwestTV replied to LocalNewsNerd7000's topic in Sets & Studios
Yeah that was strange and jarring. It's also a strange design choice if the video is still confined to the center. Make it take up the 16x9 portion of the array or leave the anchors in the middle. -
Because they know they'll get exactly what they want with this administration

TEGNA Broadcasting and Digital General Discussion
MidwestTV replied to ABC 7 Denver's topic in Corporate Chat
I know this board loves to hate everything, but I'm going to point out things I actually like. Y'all need to put these things into perspective of Tegna's history. They have never been stellar at in-house set design - Honestly, this a studio I wish WHAS would get. They are way overdue and I think were one of the first stations to get the Tegna V1 cookie cutter. - I was surprised to see graphical and musical updates (unless they've already had them and I didn't know). Not what I would expect given an impending sale to Nexstar. Also, if the music means the a Capella crap is finally done then I am all aboard. - The set, though admittedly a bit sterile, works. It might be a little dark, but overall the lighting isn't overpowering (which studio talent probably appreciates) Yes, it isn't perfect. The apparent acoustic sound panels feel slapped in there as an afterthought to break up the big white walls and may have been better if they filled the entire space (it would also have added unique texture).- 3735 replies

This gave me a chuckle being a KC native. - The graphics are clearly inspired by the Scripps design (and frankly looks a bit more refined). - The 4 seems inspired by KSHB's 41 - It's an NBC affiliate, which WDAF (channel 4) used to be - The set, honestly, doesn't look that bad. I'm trying to recall who the desk too inspiration from - It's still hilarious seeing movies portray newsrooms/control rooms/studios as being packed with people like an actual movie set when in reality they're barren and lonely. Also funny is the idea the meteorologist is reading off the teleprompter.

Good catch. I don't mind the logo. It does lose a lot of life without the peacock. It would have looked fine with it. I suppose it continues the trend we've seen of dropping clear network affiliation branding altogether to try and make the individual entity stand more on its own.

"The Spot" with a parallelogram as a logo. Classic. It's actually surprising KMCI kept that old (and better) logo for as long as they did given the rebrands KSHB has had.
