Agreed! I’ve noticed the ones who complained are the ones who aren’t used to it. Heard a lot of places are playing CBS News Detroit. Network and advertisers both seem to be happy.

My point is, AFN not showing the network logo may or may not reflect the station’s relationship with CBS. In WDIV’s case, it does. With a station like KTLA or WPIX, it doesn’t. It depends on the actual station.

WKBN in Youngstown OH, which is owned by Nextar, just reincorporated the CBS logo next to the 27, after briefly taking it away. Here in Detroit, WDIV (NBC) is the only network affiliated station that does not show the network logo, and WDIV’s relationship with NBC appears to be shaky at best. WXYZ has the ABC logo incorporated with the circle 7, and the station’s relationship with the network is great. WJBK (Fox), WWJ (CBS), and WKBD (CW) are all network owned and operated stations. All of the have to be network logo incorporated with the station logo as expected.

This is why I eventually see WJBK becoming Fox Detroit, and WTTG, WNYW, and WAGA becoming Fox DC, Fox New York, and Fox Atlanta.

I think CBS News Detroit is doing way better than what anyone anticipated. WWJ is obviously targeting a whole new audience and a lot of people are tuning in. That’s just a dress rehearsal for the eventual weekend newscasts. They did this last week for the special edition of the 4pm newscast when they were reporting on the snow storm. The 4pm newscast debuts on Monday.

I’m curious to see if WWJ will be the first Detroit station to air a 3pm newscast. They are already debuting the 4pm newscast next Monday. I believe the strategy is to air more news than syndicated shows on WWJ-TV. With Drew Barrymore moving to 9 am next week, I can’t see WWJ putting Drew Barrymore at 3 pm.

WCBS, WBBM, and KYW should be next. KDKA is going to be in April or May. There is heavy speculation that KDKA and KYW will indeed, rebrand their newscasts as CBS News Pittsburgh/Philadelphia.

This explains their recent anchor hires. There’s speculation that WWJ just hired an anchor from cross town rival WDIV..

WWJ expanded to a 5pm newscast on Monday. Noon and 4pm are coming soon, as are the morning newscasts.

Apparently KDKA is going to be yet another CBS owned and operated station that’s going to do away with its channel reference, joining KCBS, KPIX, and WWJ. Heard there’s a CBS News Pittsburgh logo with just the call letters “KDKA” to the left of it. Unsure how I feel about this. Yikes!!!

KCAL/KCBS is an absolute disaster. I can’t bare to watch any of their newscasts. WWJ so far, is way better and CBS News Detroit just debuted 8 days ago. Obvious WWJ is somewhat modeling themselves after KDKA. Not surprising, since KDKA Pittsburgh is actually one of the better CBS O&Os.

No offense but the complains, if you can call them that,, are just petty. Don’t care about the news stand. Just want great news and so far, WWJ is doing a great job. Delivery, graphics, and overall look are all top notch.

Very interested to see what KDKA does with the new graphics. I say they will also use the call letter box, since the station does indeed use “KDKA-TV/KDKA-TV News” as its branding. I don’t see WWJ using the call letters box at all. They will just call themselves “CBS Detroit/CBS News Detroit.” Could be wrong though. We’ll find out in less than a month.
