I remember when we hired Shelly Slater at FOX 4. She did her first live shot on my show, and I thought "Wow, this woman will be a major-market anchor someday, maybe even CNN." Now she's stepping away from full-time work at WFAA.

I had heard the KCTV news director would be leaving a month ago, around the time he fired a few people. Today he submitted his resignation. His replacement will be the third ND since late 2013.

Someone climbed about 150-feet up our tower Sunday night and knocked back a few cold ones. I was working at the time. This guy was awfully drunk.

WMGT reports on the death of their morning co-anchor.

It was not a car crash, by the way. She fell off a waterfall ledge-- one that I've visited before.

How has that affected your ratings?
It has made a dent, undeniably.

A couple of departures from WATN in Memphis:
- Meteorologist Lauren Raymer has left to take a position at the Memphis Oral School for the Deaf. Her last day was June 24th.
- Sports anchor Gil Tyree is no longer at the station as of this week. One of his final appearances on air was covering and doing play-by-play for the Memphis Tigers' Basketball Alumni Game last weekend.
Tyree lost his son recently (his son played football at my alma mater). I wonder if that had anything to do with his departure.

WXIN sports anchor Charly Arnolt is moving ... to "wrestling"?!
(Wrestling is in quotation marks for a reason. WWE is more soap opera than an actual interpretation of a sport)
How ironic, a reporter who faked her way into a sports gig, is now covering a fake sport.

In Oklahoma City, KFOR says Joleen Chaney is returning to the station, apparently to co-anchor the 4:00 p.m. news. She left KFOR a couple of years ago for KWTV.

In a weird move, Topeka's KSNT news director Al Carl is moving to WISH-TV to serve in the same position. I haven't heard particularly glowing reviews of the man.
I've worked with him. I like him, and I think he's easy to work for. He's a total job-hopper, though. Like Johnny Cash, it seems he's been everywhere.

KWCH sports anchor Dani Welniak is moving up to KCTV in Kansas City. This weekend was her last weekend in Wichita.

This has been a rumor for months, but KSHB meteorologist Kalee Dionne will be joining WMAQ-TV in Chicago this fall (capacity unknown). KSHB hired a meteorologist from WDBJ in Roanoke to replace her.

Sad news coming out of Corpus Christi. Meteorologist Matt Terhune of NBC affiliate KRIS-TV has passed away this morning after a long and courageous battle of brain cancer. Matt leaves behind his beloved wife, Michelle and two adorable children Madeline and Nathan. Matt Terhune was 39 years old. TVNT would like to take this time to offer our prayers and condolences to The Terhune Family and to staff of KRIS 6 News.
Rest in Peace, Matt and God Speed.

Anyone know what's happening on Telemundo for June 17, 2017? There's this countdown clock in the video:

That might be for the Confederations Cup (soccer).

Does anyone actually know what the largest market is with no choppers? I have this suspicion that it's not Austin (#39), but I couldn't tell you which of the ones in the upper 20s or 30s it is.
If I had to guess, off-hand, I would say Hartford.

This is amusing: two longtime Wichita anchors both announced their departures at the same time. Both will leave on the same day. Cindy Klose of KWCH and Susan Peters of KAKE are both leaving their stations on May 25 (last day of the May book).
