Good Afternoon America was probably the best. That said, over the last few years ABC has gone heavy on the acronym, ditching most references to "Good Morning America" in favor of "G-M-A." So, in that sense, the fact that they came up with 'GMA3' is not terribly surprising. (Not far off from GMA Day.) GMA3 sounds like the strain of a virus your doctor would vaccinate you for.

If you read the WSJ article I posted in this thread on July 12, you would have seen the following quote: They (she, Zirinsky, and CBS management) obviously know that you don't win back millions of viewers in five days. You and others are missing the important point that Zirinsky did not appoint Jeff Glor to be host of CBSEN. Zirinsky likely felt, ratings aside, that Glor was not a natural fit to anchor the show in the first place. So, your repeated suggestion that CBS churns through talent because of bad ratings (a) is not supported by fact, and (b) glosses over the nuance that Scott Pelley was removed due to a personal dispute with Zirinsky's predecessor, and Jeff Glor was removed because he never belonged there in the first place.

You said "no real ratings bump," referring to Norah's time at CBSEN, which during the reported ratings window was a whopping five days. By the way, you said in your post, "...and that's exactly what they deserve." Why do "they" "deserve" that?

Yeah... it's only 10 seconds, so I admittedly don't care too much about it. But, to your point, it is simple. I wouldn't mind if they instead tried overlaying the logo on top of a clip panning the CBS newsroom, or a clip of Norah walking out of her office toward the set, or something like that. Some shot that says "This is real journalism. Let's go."

Of course it wasn’t necessary. It wasn’t necessary for them to change the lights to blue or for Norah to wear a pantsuit either. It was a choice. This is nothing new, by the way. When Charlie, Diane, and David each took over WNT, they all cited Peter Jennings in one way or another. For people who work in that business, it’s an act of respect. As I said, the 20 second nod to the show’s legacy was just as much for the CBS News staff as it was for the audience.

Strong debut. The blues give the show an evening feel, not too different from the blues of WNT and NN. Norah has a commanding presence and brings her own gravitas. This is a show I would watch. The nod to Murrow was just as much for the CBS staff as it was for the audience. She can give a 20 second nod to the show's history in the debut episode and still establish the show as her own. They aren't mutually exclusive.

The talent opens are sometimes included because the producers just want to experiment, or because the show timeline is a few seconds shorter so the talent opens can fill the time.

Unfortunately in television you don’t get time to “prove yourself.” It’s very easy to lose viewers, and very hard to win them back. Zirinsky probably felt he didn’t belong at EN in the first place.

Yes, it's definitely more than just an anchor change. They are considering it a relaunch of the show. Also noticed that the three anchors, who used to sit triangularly across from each other, are now all sitting together in front of a monitor. Much closer to GMA/Today.

My thought as well. Would not be surprising if Bill, who is almost 70, wants to give up either the 6 or the 11 in the near future.

30 minutes of work instead of 2 hours. Hard news instead of The Bachelor recaps and viral videos. Getting to waking up in the morning at 8:00 a.m. instead of 3:00 a.m. Reporting for 60 Minutes, which is the highest profile program in TV news and something he'd be able to do into his 70s. Obviously he chose to stay at ABC and will probably make a lot more money than he would have at CBS. But it isn't as if there were no reason for him to consider CBS's offer. In fact, according to the NY Post's reporting, he did indeed consider the offer.
