His first move should have been extending Good Day Charlotte from 5AM to 10AM Monday through Friday rather than contracting the hours on news broadcasting aired... The idea as Charlotte getting bigger in this rapid clip as it is poised to do is to make WJZY a more news-intensive major market Fox affiliate, not one that treats news like it's a second thought. I laugh at every move that Nexstar has made from the rush to shift the website to the obtuse usage of searchlights and kitebox when it should have been retired with the subtle over-the-air changes, to these moves of newscast hours reduction. It's going to make things worse rather than better for the station.
Strangely enough, WSOC-TV has adopted a new on-air bug logo with the ABC logo attached to the main 9 logo in the lower right hand corner. Interesting it is airing during the ABC-Disney Television produced, Tamron Hall Show. See below in the attachment
I hope the Good Day Charlotte extension is next. May have to wait for syndication contracts to expire. What I could see is WMYT taking 25 Words or Less when America Says is cancelled in a few weeks. And I’d like to see WJZY’s new schedule be something like this:
9am Good Day Charlotte extension
10am Rachael Ray
11am Kelly Clarkson
Noon Dr. Oz
1pm The Real
The rest stay the same

WJZY just hired a new news director and his first move is now not starting their weekend editions of Good Day Charlotte until 6am
They are adding more infomercials. No biggie at 5am on weekends. Don’t think this is really a big loss. I don’t think that many people could have been watching a weekend newscast that early on a 5th place station. That said, hopefully it means they are eventually expanding during the week.

Not the only news anchor baby of July 14th: WNYT's Karen Tararache gave birth to her second on Tuesday as well.
Congratulations!

Today though, (7/1/95) marks 25 years since the dawn of a new era for News 4 Texas as the CBS era came to a close that night. Last 2 CBS Programs to have aired on ch. 4 were saturday night staples: Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman + Walker, Texas Ranger.
Was also 42 years since WSOC went from NBC to ABC, WRET (now WCNC) went from independence to NBC and WCCB went from ABC to independence, and 7 years since WJZY took the Fox affiliation and WCCB switched to the CW after FTS bought WJZY and WMYT from Capitol Broadcasting.

WJZY is no longer airing its special Tuesday night 11pm newscast which it called “Fox 46 News Nightside.” It was for coronavirus and primary election coverage. It had aired on Tuesday nights since the end of February. I guess it will return when it gets closer to the election. But they need to just go ahead and make that a permanent every weeknight thing,

KPRC is moving “Houston Life,” its lifestyle show, to 3p weekdays starting Aug. 17. It had been airing at 1p. “Dr. Phil,” which had been airing at 3p, moves to 1p. The station claims ratings for the show have spiked during the coronavirus pandemic, with it beating all other Houston stations in its current timeslot. At 3p, it’ll be up against “Ellen” on KHOU, “Kelly Clarkson” on KRIV and local news/“Inside Edition” on KTRK.

That’s an odd time for Dr. Phil to air. Most NBC stations air Days of Our Lives at 1. Still got time to tinker. Maybe put Days at 1 and Phil at 2.

They eventually plan to expand it to “afternoons and then evenings.” Wow. So maybe 3-4pm and 7-8pm Eastern? Or 6-7pm? The evening slot would take away sitcom rerun time. Maybe it would just be 30 minutes each in the afternoon and evening. Sounds like overkill.

Hate to bump up a stagnant thread but Sinclair is going to launch a Headline News Service that will run from 6 to 9am initially on stations affiliated with the CW and MyNetworkTV respectively as well as its own OTT service, STIRR. Scheduled to launch early next year https://tvnewscheck.com/article/top-news/250273/sinclair-to-launch-headline-news-service/
Don't be surprised if this expands eventually to other affiliates (particulary the ones without news departments).

Really should only be 2 hours, and not 3. Will it be 6-9 in all time zones? The stations that air Big 3 10/9pm news productions by their duopoly partner should air morning news from those stations instead if they do not already. Looking at you WMYA. Not sure which station it will be on in Raleigh/Durham, WLFL or WRDC. Probably the former if I had to guess. WLFL could air morning news from WTVD since they air their 10:00 news but they are not the station in a duopoly with them.
If it does expand to other affiliates I’d like to see WMYT pick it up, but I’m not sure if Nexstar would want it going against its own Good Day Charlotte.

New site looks great. Hope WBTV gets it.

The man himself (Romines) came from WTEN in Albany, so it could be interesting.
On an unrelated note, it’s stunning that a station in Tennessee doesn’t have those call letters.

Please keep WSOC anchor Allison Latos and her husband and family in your thoughts and prayers. On May 13 she lost her baby girl Hannah due to an inoperable brain condition.

Either TBS or at least bring back the short lived syndicated Braves Southeast Network. The games were on WAXN in Charlotte.

Somehow we missed this one but the Tegna sale is still a possibility.
And not only that but Gray might actually come back to the table at a later date with an offer to acquire Tegna plus:
Nexstar may want part of Tegna (the only question is which ones does Nexstar actually want out of Tegna should they do that)
And don't rule out Standard Media acquiring Tegna either (yes, Standard Media)
I don't think the shareholder meeting will be the end of this stuff for Tegna
Well we know Nexstar won’t be getting WCNC or WFMY...

Especially since they decided to go the lifestyle route again at 3. QC at 3 is basically a clone of QC in the Morning.
