1. WTOL 1992

You can really see the TVbD influence in this one, especially in some elements that were pretty much recycled verbatim from their previous graphics (e.g. the talent shots).

WATE in 1990 (I think that's David Kaye doing the VO)

That definitely isn't him - compare his work for WBBH in the same timeframe.

  2.

This one is so good, you'll have to view it more than once.

Amazing movie open. Hope movie opens are allowed on this thread!

Considering that the theme carries the signature of their news package, I'd count it.

Meanwhile, KALB in 1992...the start year for Advantage moves even further back. Note one of the anchors here - Steve Coco

    further south in Lafayette.

  3. WYAH had news updates in 1988...

Their arch-rivals WTVZ had them in the timeframe as well (the...lacking quality of the open was the direct inspiration for some of my own work):

And what the heck is this? (Jacky speculates it could be Gari)

That sounds nothing like Gari at all. Could it be something locally produced, maybe?

  4. KLAX in 1995...good-yet-corny 3D graphics? Original logo still in place? The One and Only? Oh yes.

I'm starting to think the NMSA's dating is switched...from the compilation jacky9br did, Ultra News was being used in the 31LAX era...which comes immediately after this.

  5. We take you to Dothan, Alabama and a rare look at WDHN. In 1990! There is no news open, however. But you are checking out a rare clip of a WDHN newscast from that year. The news anchor, Linda Scott, formerly worked for WSFA in Montgomery during the 1980s. An unknown theme piece can be heard at 3:08 into the video.

    [sNIP]

Oh, this piece isn't unknown - it's part of "Clear Choice" from the Robert Hall production library. It's also the last thing I would have expected to hear...

  6. We finally get to see News Edge on WAAY, with an open from 2000...

...and one from 2001, with a heavy dose of technical difficulties on top.

Plus a very odd little open from WAFF in 1989. I suspect this may be related to KTRE 1993 - they were definitely

  7. Just as a clarification, I'm quite certain TVbD did not make the camera graphics. They don't share any of the group's major "fingerprints", and certainly would have shown up in a demo reel or on the client list on their website...

As for the ring graphics, the Newsmusic Central package did indeed come first...this is well-documented on WKLY and WESH, aside from the KETV open above.

  8. KCRA and You sounds very Tuesday-esque to my ears too. The instrumentation is very reminiscent of the older parts of the 1-16 + A-H series.

And what of "We Take You There"? I've never even seen any documentation of its existence beyond the totally blank NMSA listing, and I find it hard to believe that KCRA would have been using two different themes from two different companies at once.

  9. I'll be honest - I could definitely see KTNV 1981 and WTVD 1979 being Peters, but I'm not so sure about KTVX, WJBK and KVIA, just going off the general musical style...

Then again, Peters didn't really seem to have as much of a distinct "signature" to their work as, say, Tuesday. You could be forgiven for thinking that X Belongs and the WXIA themes were by completely different composers.

  10.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EnnB0GyVeo Don't think this has been posted yet - this is an evening newscast from January 4, 1983 on WFSB and WTNH. A WFSB open appears halfway through, using the pre-1984 Gannett graphics (you know, the red & blue lines crawling across a black screen with random shots around them).
I knew we'd find that WFSB open someday, and I knew exactly what to expect when we did - that look was what a certain group that would go down in television history was tasked with replacing... (@Raymie) On another note, note the theme used in this KLTV snippet. This is in the NMSA as the WDIO/WIRT 1985 theme, and it must have been production music, because KLTV 1985 was definitely in use alongside it (seen at 1:43). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=41_QU87K79Y;m=1;s=12

  11. WTRF, 1988:

Ha! I just submitted a cleaner copy of this open (and an unknown theme that came after it - both were actually posted on here ages ago) that I stumbled across on Facebook to the NMSA the other day. Now I know when they changed to that unknown...it also had a 1988 date on it.
