Noticed this new promo: It seems that he was hired as a second weekday morning meteorologist alongside John (makes sense with them adding all these newscasts). Maybe this would also allow John to do more interview segments or maybe outdoor segments like he used to do on the weekends.. Craig Allen seems to be on weekend mornings still, for now.

Mary is a PIX and local news legend, wishing her the best on her retirement. They had a nice tribute to her on the news at 4pm.
-
WPHL meteorologist Monica Cryan did the weather on PIX this morning (I believe remotely). I also realized that WPHL has nearly identical graphics to WPIX.
-
Tonight the evening team was John Muller and Katie Corrado -surprised they used 2 anchors given the holiday, but Katie is great as anchor. Byron Miranda seems to be in the running with John Elliott, doing the weather for all the broadcasts the last few days (but I think all the weather hits were pre-recorded).
-
Here's the video John mentions this in, cut to the last part: And totally agreed. Analyzing his schedule, John is totally overworked but it seems like he requests it maybe? Just seems like a genuinely cool guy who's knowledgeable about weather but likes to work hard and will cover for anyone when needed. But yes I noticed that Lonnie and Vanessa don't work nearly as hard as he does (or at least to what's shown to the viewer of course, not counting behind the scenes prep).

I had a feeling something was going on with Kaity given she was off more than 2 weekends in a row. Very lucky they caught the cancer early and hope she feels better soon!
-
Did that show on air or just online? I know they took a network special report about 5 minutes into the 5pm news due to Zelensky's news conference. WABC (and I assume WNBC) did the same thing
-
I think they are doing that to some extent, at least I've noticed John (and formely Elise) signs off with the anchor on the 8am/9am shows as a sort of 'cohost'. Although it would be cool to assign him to different interviews too. Also given the press release it seems the 8am will be permanently hosted by Chris and not Mary?
-
They could give the News at noon to Cindy, so her hours would be 9am and 12pm, and Mary and Chris 4:30-8:30 (although that still is long)
-
Just checked the guides and yes, it appears WLNY now carries news from 7-9am; as it did in the 'Live from the Couch' days.

The simplest thing to do would be have Arrianee add 5pm, Shirley add 6pm hour and leave Kori's hours as is (or switch Arrianee to 6pm and Shirley to 5pm) so each anchor adds an hour. I'd say then add Kori to 4pm but I don't think he should be on every newscast like Tamsen was for a while. Adding Shirley to 4pm would probably be better if she wanted more hours. Then Ken Rosato thought experiment is interesting but pure speculation for now! Would be cool if he did wind up on PIX though. I do feel like John was demoted in favor of Kori for diversity purposes and that may be it. I'd say they're both equally good anchors; although I suppose Kori technically has seniority since he joined in 2013 and John joined (again) in 2014 if that is the metric.
-
So today Hazel did all of Tamsen's slots (4/5/6/6:30), and Arrianee, Kori, and Shirley all did their usual slots. I'm sure next few weeks may be random try outs before a decision is made. Ben Aaron is a thought for the 4pm but I do worry he would lack serious news experience in events of breaking news . Marysol Castro may be a better pick if they wanted to go that direction or keep it an all women show...
-
Just tuned in at 4pm to see who is anchoring- and Hazel Sanchez is there. Would definitely not be opposed to her on evenings, although they probably shouldn't mess with their current anchor teams too much.
-
She definitely seems passionate about menopause, relationships, and other projects so I wish her the best. Although I agree with many that she got too much airtime when she was doing all the evening shows. Hopefully Shirley Chan gets promoted beyond the 10pm, and it would be great if Kala Rama got re-promoted beyond reporter again (or John Muller). I think Kala and Shirley (and I guess Arrianee too isn't too bad) would diversify their evening lineup. This is all if they don't hire someone from outside.

I haven't seen it aside from the screngrabs, but space-wise it seems more similar to 3C than 3K. Throwing it out there, would it have made more sense to move to 3B as a temporary space and just update 3K? (so they would have more room)? I feel like that may have made more sense; but I suppose the small space is fine for their purposes to bring the news. Then again I forget they are sharing with WNJU so I guess 3K isn't large enough for that split. I also think the set works better for NYL than for News4. So now I'd currently rank NY sets (as best to worst): WPIX, then WCBS, then WNYW, then WABC (what they were able to do for the 10AM is great), and still WNBC last.

From the New York thread: WCBS reports tonight that NY news fixture of the consumer segment 'shame on you', Arnold Diaz, has passed at 74 .

WCBS reports tonight that NY news fixture Arnold Diaz has passed at 74 . Given that he also spent considerable time at WNYW and WPIX (although longest at WCBS) I put this in a separate thread. He retired from PIX ~1.5 years ago in 2022.

Wow, thats super odd. If anything you'd want 2 anchors at 5pm for the hour long broadcast.. I'd say they are definitely testing pairings to see what might (or might not) stick. Originally I thought they just needed to fill Mike's weekend morning position but I forgot about the noon issue.
-
It seems WABC wants to have 1 familiar anchor to fill in on a given timeslot (Bill with Chantee, Joe with Kemberly). I suppose the opposite is letting Sandra and Joe stay put and having Chantee and Kemberly anchor together. Normally weekend AMs have been Michelle and Toni so I'm guessing they were both off ( they probably only mentioned Michelle was off since Toni is not permanent, yet). Also for weather I do think Dani Beckstrom is permanent on weekend AMs with Brittany doing the 4-6AM weekdays.
-
Yes I just saw that too, so it seems to be a TV gig. The only 2 stations I could see hiring him would be maybe Fox5 of Pix11 if he's staying local but you never know! Ken and Rosanna, anyone?, lol
-
My opinion is that they already replaced Elise with John Elliott. John, Lonnie and Elise all came to WCBS at the same time in 2007 so he deserves (and before Elise had) the weekday spot. I still remember all the random people complaining when he was moved to weekends lol. Having Craig Allen on weekend mornings is great but I don't know if thats a long term plan or if Craig wants that gig back permanently. I could see Raegen Medgie joining for weekend mornings (she already had a stint on WCBS years ago), or Megan Glaros if they wanted to go that route.

Apparently WCBS is now tasked with producing newscasts in Atlanta each night at 8pm (under the NOW newscast brand). This obviously conflicts with their 8pm newscast in New York (it is done from the same studio), so I'm guessing this is pre-recorded at 7pm or even 3/4 pm? Dana Tyler seems to be the permanent anchor, with Lonnie Quinn doing Atlanta weather. Hypothetically, they could probably do both live if they wanted, with this taking place in their backup (old CBSN) studio? I don't think that's been seen since they updated their current set, so it's possible that set is undergoing another refresh.
-
Interesting- I suppose WABC is trying to find a permanent anchor for the noon, or shift someone into that spot. I wouldn't see any issue putting Lauren in that spot if they wanted. Although the trend these days seems to be rotating anchors. WCBS does this both at noon and 8pm. Noon now rotates every other day solo between Chris and Mary and 8pm now seems to rotate solo between Maurice, Kristine, and Dick; although these are both half hour shows.

Ernie Anastos joins...pix11? Well...kinda, good to see him still finding a way to work on TV post FOX5.

I think Mike and Shirleen make a good pairing overall, and I think adding Sam as a 'third anchor' of sorts was a very smart move due to his credentials/name recognition. In terms of light newscasts, there seem to be quite a variety now: -CBS 2 News at 9 with Cindy Hsu (more of a 'positive' newscast; not a huge fan of the forced back and forth with weather, like when the anchor would ask a question to segue weather reports instead of just a normal weather broadcast) -New York Living (although that entire show completely changed vibes to be way lighter fare when they replaced Chris with Alex, but I will acknowledge Marysol and Alex gel very well) -GDNY 9am hour (although this is an extension of GDNY it can be viewed as a new show somewhat) But back to EWN I'm starting to think Dani is there to fill the void whenever Sam can't be, since I think* he takes off every Friday? So in that case, it makes sense to market the newscast as 4 people as opposed to 3 when 1 is consistently off on a certain day. It seems like they are slowly preparing for the new look but it will debut sometime this Fall, (sigh) hopefully.
