  1. Even though that's what they may do, I think it's overkill. How about moving Extra to one of those time slots, or more news?

Since WNCN followed suit with WRAL and airs Y&TR at 4pm, I'd like to see them move Judge Mabalean from 9-10am, do an hourlong noon news to fully compete with WRAL and WTVD, air a Judge Judy episode at 1, before B&B at 1:30.

  2. How bout yet another episode of Judge Judy? Basically, WNCN will air it four times: 9:00, 9:30am, 7:00 and 7:30pm.

I'd assume that's what they'd do, seeing as before they became a CBS station they had two double runs of the show IIRC.

  3. WNCN has cancelled their mid-morning lifestyle/paid programming show, My Carolina Talk. No word on a replacement as of yet, although TitanTV listings still show "new episodes" to be aired through at least the next week.

  4. DCRTV now confirms that Veronica Johnson will be joining ABC7/News Channel 8 as a morning meteorologist, working alongside Eileen Whalen. Jacqui Jeras will be leaving the station in July to return to Atlanta with her husband who was just transferred back there.

Also in ABC7/NC8 news, weekday evening anchor and DC/Baltimore news veteran Morris Jones announces his departure from the station.

  5. DCRTV's sources reporting that Veronica Johnson will indeed be going to ABC7/News Channel 8 and take over for Jacqui Jeras, who is reportedly moving back to Atlanta.

  6. Nope. In my market his talk show and game show air in the same time slot.

Interesting. In DC Steve Harvey's talk show is on at 2pm on NBC and FF has a double run at 5pm on My20, in Richmond the talk show airs at 4pm on CBS6 and a FF double run at 6pm on FOX.

When I lived in Raleigh both shows were on the same station (FOX 50)

  7. The only other similar situation I know of with personalities appearing on competing networks is when Oprah was still on. In markets where she and Dr. Phil were on different stations, there was a rule that the two shows could not air opposite each other, and I assume it's the same for markets where Steve Harvey's talk show and Family Feud aren't on the same channel.

  8. I know back when Meredith Viera was on the Today show and hosted Who Wants To Be a Millionaire, she agreed not to be on the third and fourth hours of Today (outside of breaking news coverage), since a lot of stations aired Millionaire between 9 and 11am.

  9. WRC/NBC Washington is launching 4 Respondes where you call a hotline, leave a message or speak with someone and they'll do their best to get answers for you. Seems to be model on the Telemundo Respondes initiative. The b-roll video they showed a large call center with NBC Consumer Investigative Center with their consumer anchor sitting at a desk with a crappy NBC 4 logo as the desktop. If I had to guess the calls go to some national call center (the b-roll showed what looked like new office) that was set up to handle these issues. I wonder how they'll handle Comcast problems?

We had Comcast when I was growing up and it was a living Hell to call them for anything. I got better customer service talking to my cat than anyone from Comcast. We now have FIOS and I couldn't be happier with what they offer us.

  10. In fact, why donsn't Fox do the same thing with all their MyNetworkTV stations?

Doesn't Hearst do the same thing on their Me-TV subchannels?

I know WBAL has a 10pm show on their MeTV affiliate and while not Hearst owned, WBTV in Charlotte has an 8pm newscast on their Bounce as well.

  11. Can they move it to 2.2 later if they wish?

Do the rules allow or prohibit that kind of simulcast on a sub channel?

WUSA simulcasts their 7pm news on their Bounce subchannel and also will air regular CBS programming over there in the event of longform breaking news coverage or when a Nats baseball game is on the main channel.

  12. My thoughts/observations on DCW50's new 10pm news (so far)

They're using CBS6's main set and graphics, obviously using a DCW50 logo, though.

"Top 10 at Ten": Top ten stories in the first ten mins of the show, however the graphic kept on the left of the screen is obnoxious.

Overall, I think this will be a refreshing alternative to FOX5 and News Channel 8, given time I think this could gain some sort of traction and hopefully develop into an hour-long show all from DC and eventually a morning newscast as well.

  13. WDCW's new 10pm newscast debuts tomorrow night. I gotta say I'm excited for this, thankfully it's not going to be one of those "Newsfix" or "News w/ a Twist" type shows. It'll be interesting to see how local Tribune is going to make this, especially with it being produced from WTVR's studios down in Richmond.

  14. There may be more angry people wanting their Seinfeld than happy people wanting their news in that case...

I stand corrected, I follow one of their new reporters on Twitter and he tweeted the two new promos that're supposed to start running this week.

  15. WJLA/NC8 weekend meteorologist Devon Lucie has announced his departure from the station to take over as weekday AM meteorologist at KTVX in Salt Lake City. Devon's wife, WUSA9 reporter Surae Chinn is expected to join him as well. (credits to DCRTV)

  16. Did they?

They did actually and that's the only time I've seen it mentioned on their FB at all. At this rate people expecting to watch the 10pm Seinfeld rerun are gonna be in for a huge shock come next week.

  17. I find it interesting that DCW50 has done little to no promotion for their upcoming 10pm newscast. No on-air promotions and nothing on Facebook outside of the question I asked them as to when it started (granted I already know it starts 4/18, but I wanted to see if they'd actually respond).

  18. Cameron Thompson joins DCW50 as an MMJ for their soon to be launched 10pm newscast. Thompson previously reported for WNEW-FM until the station flipped formats to business talk.
