  1. It's been heavily-speculated here, but now it's official.

TVNewsCheck posted minutes ago that WDCW will have a new 10pm newscast beginning April 18th.

The new 10pm newscast will be produced out of Richmond's WTVR, with reporters & multimedia journalists being based out of DC. The anchor will be WTVR's 6 & 11pm anchor Candace Burns.

I hope this works out for them. WTVR is a great station (living in Fredericksburg I get DC and RVA channels) and I think if this is promoted right, it could impact FOX5 eventually.

  2. Russ is at WNCN now as a morning anchor

Taking over for Mike Gonzalez who has been named evening co-anchor at KAPP/KVEW (ABC) in Yakima WA. Seems like a huge demotion, going from mornings in market 25, to a B-level station.

  3. Are there any other ABC affiliates on the East Coast with 5pm weekend news (current or planned)?

Off the top of my head, the only other I can think of is possibly WPLG? I know WJLA technically has one, by way of News Channel 8.

  4. I'd like Nexstar to the low powered stations along with WABG, and Raycom or Gray buying WXVT.

Also, WDCW could launch a second 10 PM newscast in DC that will come from WTVR:

    Or more accurately: http://www.satelliteguys.us/xen/threads/wdcw-50-psip-in-washington-dc-considering-a-10-pm-newscast.357550/

The last time they had a newscast was in 1991 when WRC produced a 7:30pm show for then when they were WFTY (IND). If this all falls into place, I hope they take a harder approach than WTTG and for the love of God, none of that NewsFix or News with a Twist shit.

  5. A decent percentage of "retirement" and "spending time with family" announcements are total crap...

Reminds me of when Pam Saulsby left WRAL to "pursue other interests", when in reality, WRAL had shit-canned her over her age and appearance, among other things.

  6. Speaking of that, It appears the McDonald's Thanksgiving Parade is still intact on WGN America. I thought 2014 would be the last edition of the parade would be the last to be simulcast nationally because all Chicago-related programming was removed from the channel.

I had been wondering about that myself. I thought we'd be subject to more Law & Order reruns or whatever the hell WGN-A airs these days.

  7. Congrats to Sue Palka on 30 years this week of being chief meteorologist at FOX5. I've watched Sue ever since I could remember the names of on-air personalities on TV, and even through the 9-ish years I spent in North Carolina, I usually always checked her forecasts when things got crazy here in the DC-area!

  8. WTVR announces Candace Burns will permanently take over the 6p & 11p co-anchor position with Bill Fitzgerald. Candace came to CBS6 last year when the late Stephanie Rochon took her medical LOA.

I'm happy they're giving it to Candace, while we'll all miss Steph, Candace is great and deserves it.

  9. News has been announced that longtime weekend veteran Bruce Johnson will replace Derek Mcginty at WUSA.

Couldn't have happened to a better guy, congrats to Bruce.

  10. Three big stories from DCRTV:

Derek McGinty announces his departure from WUSA, but will continue to host Capital Download.

Erica Grow also announces her departure from WUSA to take a weekend weather position at WNBC.

Scott Smith is leaving WTTG in three months after his contract expires as the station is "de-emphasizing" traditional sports.

  11. Not confirmed yet but a post on DCRTV mentions that Tom Kierein will be moving to weekend mornings at WRC and Chuck Bell will be taking over Tom's position as morning/11am meteorologist. Not sure what's going on over there or if this is even Tom's choice, but if not, that's gotta be an insult to him... after all those years working in the morning..

  12. WWBT in Richmond also aired some form of a newscast however I couldn't tell if it was live or Memorex, seemed to be a basic check of headlines and quick WX rundown.

  13. As of 1:47a EDT, the NASCAR race is STILL on. I wonder how many NBC affiliates in EDT/CDT are actually planning a live newscast tonight and if they use the weekend PM crew or just have the morning crew anchor an abbreviated broadcast?

WRC already said they aren't going to, interesting to hear from you guys watching if your NBC affiliate is going to go live this morning after the race.

  14. Came across this interview with Larry Stogner from the Raleigh News and Observer about his time at WTVD and their competition with WRAL. Very good interview, check it out.

  15. I don't know how bad the reaction was for breaking in to the Cubbies game, but God forbid WRAL break into Bold & The Beautiful to cover a tornado warning. You'd think Greg Fishel slaughtered the family dog on the air with how shitty people get about the coverage.
