1. I think they are trying to prepare Hoda to fill in once Savannah goes on maternity leave.

Them emphasizing three people instead of five or seven people just shows how much a threat and momentum CBS This Morning has build.

CBS This Morning is rising in the mornings and if their program was only shown in all markets they would have to most traction.

Outside of New Orleans where CBSTM airs on WUPL/My and Greensboro which airs the show on an hour delay from 8-10, are there any other markets where the weekday show is preempted or delegated to another time/network?

  2. Isn't Adam Longo currently anchoring the 5 & 11? Because if Leon plans on coming to WUSA to take the 6 and/or 11, what's next for Adam?

Good question. The only thing I could think of off the top of my head is keeping him at 5 with Lesli Foster and team him up with Andrea Roane to co-anchor the noon news as well, along with being Leon's backup. I don't see Bruce Johnson retiring anytime soon as he just got the 7pm newscast to himself (haven't watched it yet to see what it's like), so if Leon did come to WUSA, it's really difficult to figure out what the hell WUSA would do.

  3. It would behoove W*USA9 to pick-up Leon Harris for their evening shows at 6&11pm.

I know there's no chance at this happening, but I would love to see WUSA team Andrea Roane and Leon Harris up for the 6 and 11.

  4. DCRTV reporting that WUSA is axing their 7pm newscast in favor of a show titled Off Script, featuring veteran anchor/reporter Bruce Johnson. I wonder if this will be along the same lines as Next w/ Kyle Clark on KUSA?

Also in WUSA-related news, it seems evening anchor Jan Jeffcoat's move to the morning newscast has been made official, as they've been airing TNF promotions featuring her with Mike Hydeck.

  5. DCRTV reports that Leon Harris will be leaving WJLA/NC8 in October after 13 years.

    EDIT:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">13 great yrs at ABC7 are not enough, but will have to be. Thanks for the support, all! Not my choice, but it's now my challenge. Much love!</p>— Leon Harris (@LeonABC7) <a href="">September 2, 2016</a></blockquote>

(sorry if this is jumbled up, I'm not familiar with HTML.)

  6. Oh neat! Kinda wish WXIN or WTTV would do that here, considering 'TVR is also owned by Tribune.

Do any other Tribune owned stations have something similar? When I moved back here from NC, it used to basically be their radar with NOAA WX radio, along with the required E/I programming. WRAL used to have something similar until it was canned in favor of MeTV.

  7. Probably not, seeing how TV stations are dropping their local news feeds (such as the upcoming dropping of HTSN from WRTV 6.2 in Indianapolis, to be replaced by Grit).

People nowadays have the Internet to get their news from, and local news at some companies seems to be a joke anymore (*coughSCRIPPScough*), therefore, I really cannot see any 24-hour local news channel being successful.

WTVR has CBS 6 Xtra on .3, which airs previous newscasts on a continuous loop 24/7. For example, they rerun the 6am hour of the morning news until noon, 12:30-5pm is the noon news, so on and so forth. Plus they'll air regular CBS programming in the event of longform breaking news coverage.

  8. Couldn't WOIO rebrand as say, "CBS Action News", or worse, "CBS Cleveland News"?

Reminds me of WNCN's rebranding since they became a CBS affiliate. I would have rather seen them keep the WNCN branding or revert to "CBS17 News". "CBS North Carolina" sounds horrible.

  9. The only permanent weekend news pairing I've ever known and watched at WGN Television, Robert Jordan and Jackie Bange, is about to be broken up.

Robert Jordan plans to retire after 43 years with WGN-TV next month, September 25th.

Godspeed to an incredible journalist. Bob is definitely one of the good guys in broadcasting, he will certainly be missed.

  10. What exactly is Savannah's role on the show for the few weeks where they go all out Olympics? She's obviously back in New York but is she doing the headlines or what?

I'm assuming she's also on standby to anchor any NBC News special reports if needed, at least until they can get Lester in if it was something requiring long-form coverage.

  11. Former WWBT/NBC12 meteorologist Tom Patten is first in line on the substitution list to fill in for WVEC's morning and noon show.

He's been doing a lot of fill in work over at WTVR as well.

  12. I am a DC native too. Andrea Roane has always been a superstar. This pisses me off too.

Not to mention all the work she does for the DMV, especially with Buddy Check 9. It seems to be like they're putting her out to pasture like JC Hayward (who never should've been terminated either).

  13. DCRTV reports that longtime WUSA 9 morning anchor Andrea Roane has been demoted from the morning and noon news, to strictly doing the noon news.

As a DC native, this one really pisses me off. I grew up watching her originally on the 6 and 11pm news with Gordon Peterson, later moving to mornings with Mike "Buck" Buchanan, later Mike Walter, and I was so happy to see her again when I came back home for good last spring.

  14. Hell, if push comes to shove and they don't have anyone in New York or LA to do an overnight break in (we see how ill-prepared CBS was for Muhammad Ali's death, having KCBS' Paul Magers anchor an impromptu special report)... is there anyone in the London bureau overnight?

  15. Beginning to wonder if the "CBS Overnight News" needs overhaul already. With what happened last week in Dallas, NO mention of it at all that I can recall, whereas World News Now covered it live(Nightline wasn't much better, to be fair). I know they covered it on CBS Morning News, but one would think they'd have the anchor for that show at least record some kind of update, or hell even simulcast CBS-N.

  16. WCCB in Charlotte has had that bizarre "WCCB News Edge" at 10:35p for as long as I remember. You'd think once WJZY launched, they'd ditch that concept to compete head to head with WSOC's 10pm show on WAXN and WJZY as well.

  17. According to DCRTV, WJLA has picked up rights to air the Redskins appearances on Monday Night Football from WDCA/My 20. Interestingly enough, WJLA also airs Ravens preseason games in the DC area. WRC will still carry preseason games that aren't nationally televised.

Looks like the lynch mob of DWTS fans will flood the WJLA Facebook when their precious show gets interrupted.

  18. You know what you reported is great and accurate when someone praises you for your information/article. That came true for me today as my article on my blog has been praised by the V.P., G.M. and G.S.M. of WHAG Television, who's had that job since September of 1986.

You did a damn good job with that write-up, Roly.. proud of ya! :)
