  1. Just posted this in out and about, but figured it would fit well over here as well.

DCRTV reports that WJLA/NC8's Bruce DePuyt will be leaving the station effecting Jan 31st.

I honestly won't be surprised if other veteran on-air staff such as Doug Hill, Dave Lucas, Rich Reeve, Melanie Hastings, Suzanne Kennedy, etc leave or "retire" before 2017 is over.

Maureen is the next one to fall victim to the shitty "retirement" axe at Sinclair. WJLA/NC8 has gone down the toilet since they were purchased by SBG and I honestly won't be surprised if Doug Hill is out next. They already have him reduced to the noon, 4, and 5pm shows, while Steve Rudin handles the 6, 10, and 11pm shows.

  4. ABC is under contract to run DCRNYE until 2024. Seacrest is a virus, but he's still popular for some reason or another.

After Dick passed, I gave up on DCRNYE and migrated over to Anderson & Kathy on CNN, although I did enjoy what little I saw of Pitbull's special this year since it included classic hip hop, which I never expected.

  5. Noticed in my FIOS program guide the other day that WTVR now has a 6:30pm newscast with no mention of CBS-EN at all. While it did air at 6:30 followed by the 7pm news, I wonder if they're planning to bump CBS-EN to 7 after the new year and have a two hour block of local news from 5-7?

  6. As mentioned in the chat box...

A brand new logo for Wilmington's WWAY 3, all in preparation for WWAY receiving the CBS affiliation on DT2. The letters aren't bad, but the 3 looks so 80s-ish.

Reminds me a lot of WOAY (ABC Beckley/Bluefield WV)'s logo before the DT switch.

  7. Interesting read from The Washington Post on how ESPN's loss of subscribers has Disney investors worrying and how it might effect the TV landscape.

Granted this is moreso about cord cutting, but in general, ESPN is awful, plain & simple. Maybe I'm just a picky sports fan, but watching their coverage of any sport, especially baseball, is usually a train-wreck.

  8. When WRAL goes to the Today Show, they always mention to switch over to FOX 50 for more local morning news, been that way for a long time, back to their CBS days when The Early Show was still a thing.

  9. Studio 57 doesn't have the right feel...We'll see what they do, I guess.

I like it for CBS-TM, but it doesn't feel right for the Evening News, nor do I particularly care for it during special reports.

  10. WBAL looks to be airing two specials on December 7 regarding Hairspray LIVE. The first one is "Hairspray: From Baltimore to Broadway and Beyond" at 7PM and at 7:30 "Countdown to Hairspray Live". Obviously the first one is local but is the Countdown show an optional program by NBC?

WRC & WRAL are both airing the countdown show, but no special programming before it.

  11. So Dan and Lourdes are hosting the Thanksgiving Parade this year... interesting choice. I think they'll be better than Mark and Micah, who aren't really cut out for this kind of thing. Still think Robin and Paul were the best parade team.

I wasn't pleased with Mark & Micah during the coverage of the Cubs World Series parade, so I can't blame WGN for the decision.

  12. is she going to another station in the market?

"As fulfilling as my work here at WTTG has been, I am very excited to begin this new journey that involves my passions and will make a difference in our community. I am proud to have been part of such an awesome team of creative and motivated journalists." Also says she'll make her announcement about her plans soon.

To me, that translates into her contract not being renewed.

  13. They didn't air the Blackhacks parade on WGNA, won't there be some complaints for the regular viewers of the reruns of Matlock, American's Funniest Home Videos or whatever regularly scheduled reruns?

Those damn libs wanna take away my Matlock!

  14. For those interested, WGN America will be simulcasting the Cubbies victory parade tomorrow morning starting at 10am EDT. (Info accurate as of 7:30 when I called WGN themselves to confirm).

  15. Fred did wonders during the "glory days" of WUSA....(when WJLA was running circles around them)

If he leaves WOIO, will his severance pay be whatever the vending machine owes him?

He'll get it over the next 3-5 years.
