WKYC is going to change it's morning newscast's name to "Go!" on September 23rd.  Seems like all of their newscasts are getting new names.

    I got some names:

    5pm: "Watch Us After Ellen"

7pm: "At Least It's Leas Boring than Wheel of Fortune"

    11pm: "At Least Fox 8 Isn't Here...Yet"

    Weekend Mornings: "Go...Back to Sleep!"

But no matter what, as long as it goes back to FOX (O&O that is)... NOBODY and I mean... NOOOOOOOBODY is ever going to touch WJW again. In fact, I see WJW as the next WTVT within that station group.

Not that Nexstar would be bad stewards of WJW. 😋

On September 23, WKYC is changing their 6pm newscast from "Channel 3 News at 6" to "What Matters Most."  Saw it in another promo.

And somehow I already see puddles of salivation coming from Dick Goddard Way, E 30th, and especially Reserve Square. This is madness. THIS. IS. TEGNA!!!!!

And it should be pointed out that a certain other company that works the flag into their graphics and ladens their news product with propaganda hasn't picked up on this proud American broadcast tradition.

Sinclair already did their contribution to patriotism with the flag graphics. They don’t have the extra money to do the anthem like Gray, CBS, and Nexstar are doing.

How about I'm an atheist because of my objectivity. Also, having the national anthem play every night is trending toward state-controlled media and nationalism. I'm definitely against that.

Well Mexican stations (like XETV) would start the "broadcast day" (around 5am or so) by playing the National Anthem. Last I check, Mexico hasn't delved into an autocracy.

You say you want weather and traffic in the morning... what you really mean is consumer issues you are too tired to think about or comprehend... what a goofy strategy..

I don't get it either. Consumer reporting is more for evening/late-night newscasts rather than morning newscasts. Hell, if you want to do consumer reporting in the morning, do it post-7am (which WLS can't do due do a certain GMA).

That third hour show is getting yet another name: GMA3: Strahan, Sara & Keke

(with Keke Palmer officially promoted to co-host after a successful stint as guest co-host during Sara's maternity leave).

Title sounds like a cross between a video game that should be M-rated and a bad top-40 single.😂😂😂

I had hope for WOIO since they seemed to go outside the box and commission something different.  But it seems that the smaller Raycom stations are getting assimilated into the borg.

I hope they at least put some thought and effort into WBTV.  That's practically their flagship inherited from Raycom and J-P.

Not like WBTV hasn't done their own graphics before:

I think that one of the reasons behind this crisis is the lack of advertisement (RTVE removed them in 2010). There are other public broadcasters around the world that survived without placing ads throughout their schedules, such as ABC in Australia.

The problem that is plaguing RTVE is the same problem that plagues PBS: a lack of money from the government. Difference is that the PBS member stations can make up for it via pledge drives.

As am I. I wonder if this the sign we were looking for that NBC is indeed going with individualized looks for their various properties and keeping the '15 look as a generic base package. NHL season is right around the corner...

Wouldn't surprise me. It's the exact playbook that ESPN used for its graphics. I would like to see someone copy the ESPN CFB look but for the NFL., however.

Not just the text, but some of the animations are clunky as well. I'm specifically talking about the end of the open when their logos pop forward and begin to spin back. There are a couple awkward pauses that don't need to be there. It just doesn't look completely finished.

The package just seems so small-market it's not funny. At least Limerick was a decent package even if it was mutilated by some stations. I pray that stations like WBTV or WVUE get something with some pizzazz like what WOIO got.

UPDATE:. As of 8/1, the information I redacted earlier is now live....so it appears YouTube TV is filling in market holes with missing networks (even in places where affiliates exist and no carriage deal is in place).  I'm curious to see if these are distant affiliates or network feeds just to try and convince the few remaining stations to join.

I'll be signing up in a few days and curious to see how I'll be getting the CW, whether it's my affiliate WFNA, or a network feed.  I'm done with AT&T, especially after this standoff with Deerfield and Nexstar.

IIRC, it’ll be if the company has a group-wide deal. So if YouTubeTV has a deal to carry WOIO, then WUAB may be carried as well, unless the contract was made when WUAB was an “independent”*.

*since MyNetworkTV is technically not a network, I consider any station that carries MNT and nothing else an “independent”.

EDIT: As of 8/5, YTTV only carries Cleveland’s big-4 affiliations, so no WUAB despite it being CW. Also, they now carry the Youngstown locals, yes, even WFMJ.

Never understood stations that have paid programming at 12:30 weekdays. WJXT is also a victim of this.

And WKYC and WEWS as well. 12:30 has always been off and on with infomercials for WEWS, but moreso with WKYC as of late. Hell, at one point, WKYC ran E/I in that 12:30 timeslot back 2 or 3 years back.

I'm not sure when this happened. But it appears South Bend's WNDU has done away with its longtime News Center 16 brand.

They're now branding all of their newscasts as 16 News Now.

    RuiWV0L.png

Prior to just recently, the 16 News Now brand was only for its 4pm, while using News Center 16 for the later shows.

And I can careless of how "outdated" the name was. News Center 16 was their brand. The new one is just too generic and overused.

I'm sorry but that "16 News now" logo looks off. How drunk was the focus group that they showed this in front of?!?

At least you don't have to pay that local broadcast fee that way.

Easy solution to all this: Cable boxes should have a place to plug in an antenna. Have the OTA signals listed in the cable guide right along with the rest of the channels--hit the channel number just like all the rest of the cable channels and it tunes to an OTA channel without having to hit an A/B switch or without picking up programming from the cable company.

IIRC, some of the Dish Network pre-Hopper receivers can take in OTA signals and appear on the guide. Comes in handey, especially when Dish has its occasional spats.

Edit: Just looked on Dish's website. Apparently, even the Hoppers and Wallys can do it with a USB dongle.

  16. So the main channel can air 2 hours of E/I and shift the third hour onto a subchannel?

    Dear Gray

Please give WOIO this Saturday schedule:

    6-8am 19 News Saturday Morning

    8-10am CTM Saturday

    10am-Noon E/I

And now there was Nexstar and AT&T.....

That's two more channels gone from my DirecTV service.  Alongside WPMI and WJTC which have been gone for over a month now.

And like the last one, little or no warning, and AT&T yanks the signal at a moment's notice.

They can go to hell.  This is the final straw with them.  They are so gone when my contract is up.

Million-dollar question, did the Nexstar shells (Mission, Vaughan, Marshall) get pulled off DirecTV and U-Verse as well? Or just the Nexstar-owned stations?
