Also, not only that, but what’s to stop Nexstar from playing the same “Doopliss” game that Sinclair is playing?
-
Honestly, Gray dropped the ball with WOIO moving to Independence. I wouldn’t be surprised if Gray is chomping at the bit to move to Lakeside. It is a technically advanced studio and WOIO could easily spruce up that newsroom.

Kind of shocking WJW went with the WKRN / WKBN package instead of WXIN. That said, WJW has at least avoided using a ticker...for now.

After a combined 38 years at WKBN/WYTV, Gerry Ricciutti is leaving. https://www.wkbn.com/news/local-news/youngstown-news/wkbn-bids-farewell-and-good-luck-to-longtime-reporter-gerry-ricciutti/

Sinclair Broadcast Group - General Discussion
NEOMatrix replied to Smitha A's topic in Corporate Chat
I thought that KTUL was simulcasting some KOK**H** newscasts. i wouldn't be surprised if KOKI airs straight simulcasts of KOKH. -
Depends. WANF likely got taken off YTTV and WUPA was put on there in its place. However, WANF probably got viewers to install the apps and YTTV is still carrying WPCH.
-
Honestly, I didn’t expect them to beat 2, 5, or 11. However, not beating WANF/WPCH despite WANF being indie has got to sting. WUPA has to ride out their syndication contracts before expanding, just like what WWJ/WKBD did.

This was inevitable. Good on Lieberman for revamping WLII after Univision bungled it. As for WSTE, they're just going to be a Univision/UniMas passthrough, just like WLII was.

WOIO is bringing back a 9pm newscast…on WUAB! https://www.cleveland19.com/2025/08/22/wuab-become-clevelands-43-launch-additional-newscast/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR41hPUEXaCHLdE6VtuoRgeLdluK4jKJ5lneMAzRHjHvcdlHRsjkjBVTxhGYXA_aem_df6TFbZBVYgP03QBvCuyGw#eqwl4s795hvcy68vqxza6i56qksvrw3

If allowed (God, I hope not!), it’ll either be a WTTV-WXIN situation or we’re getting “KENTUCKIANA NEWS F1RST”.
-
If it was pre-Nexstar WYTV, they would’ve put on a random *Coach* episode during the difficulty.
-
I think WKBN has been short-staffed enough on weekends that they don’t bother with having somebody for WYTV. For a while, the weekend weatherperson would do the weather at both WKBN AND WYTV, so it’s not surprising. Honestly, I think Nexstar may say “Screw It” and pull the plug on separate WYTV newscasts.
-
Ehh…I have a feeling Nexstar will just “combine” WKBN and WYTV and give us “27/33 First News” or something stupid. Also, Nexstar wasn’t the ones that unified WYFX into WKBN’s branding. It was LIN, who also gave us the hideous virtual set. Yes, it was launched under Media General, but LIN likely approved it right before the sale.

I’ll offer my piece: CBS is probably in even worse shape than even the Tisch years. It seems like whatever plagued Viacom in the 2010s has finally claimed CBS (and to an extent, Showtime). As someone said, other than the NFL and college football and basketball, what sports does CBS have to hang its hat on? The Big Ten deal is a massive downgrade compared to those SEC years. They have golf, but post-Tiger Woods, it’s not really popular. Outside of that, it’s mostly stuff that would’ve been on CBS Sports Network a decade ago. Say what you will about the other networks, but they have a robust slate of sports like NBC with the NFL, the NBA, and likely the MLB. Or ABC with the NHL, NFL, college football, etc, all via ESPN. And then there’s the news division. Dear God, the news division. Between wondering who is anchoring CBS Evening News this week, the scandals with 60 minutes, and the curse of Captain Kangaroo that permeates the 7-9am timeslot, CBS News has been a joke post-Cronkite, but especially since Scott Pelley left Evening News and CBS had to revamp its morning show for the 5000th time. Oh, and primetime! Jumping Jesus, primetime! What is primetime on CBS like in 2025? Ten different versions of NCIS, FBI, and Blue Bloods, few if any comedies, and an excuse to give away Chevy Traxs and Hyundai Accents before the 11pm news. Yes, I’ve long accepted that broadcast TV is on life support. However, watching CBS is the equivalent of watching your elderly family member on life support and in pain. It’s that unbearable.

WUAB has had either horrendous or generic branding ever since “Hometeam 43” in 1999. Between “Hometeam”, “(my)43 the Block,” “CLE43”, and “UPN/my/CW 43”, I don’t think Raycom has put any effort into branding WUAB, or even WOIO for that matter. Honestly, it’s nice to see Gray trying.
-
I’m just waiting for Nexstar to make this a thing. Can’t wait for “FutureALERT” on WKBN! /s

Except for possibly the First Alert logo, this is a 1:1 preview of WOIO’s take on GrayONE.

Eight CBS Stations to Ditch CW and Go Independent This Fall

Ball is in KDKA/WPKD’s court since they are neck-and-neck with WPGH at 10pm in spite of going independent. -
Eight CBS Stations to Ditch CW and Go Independent This Fall
NEOMatrix replied to AKA's topic in General TV
I got money on WPKD (aka KDKA+) airing Talk Pittsburgh at 8, Nightly Sports Call at 9, and expanding the 10pm news to an hour. -
That promo is impressive for a televangelist show. Usually, promos for televangelists are rudimentary with the most basic of promotions. Whoever is working at Daystar’s promo department needs a raise ASAP if they were able to do the CBS look in-house.
-
Same with KDKA. Hell, I don’t think they’ve ever used the “2” verbally since maybe the 90s. I would say it’s a Group W thing, but KYW hasn’t used its call letters in a long time.
-
It was more to appeal to advertisers than anything else. Rural folks will save a special day to go into town and not spend as much, whereas city folks can go at any time and get what they want.
-
Here’s the thing, we should know when the new graphics will launch if/when CBS News Detroit launches.
-
I wonder if Nexstar will actively move the CW affiliations off of competing stations and onto .2s or junior stations they control.
-
Again, it’s Meridian. Considering the competition, WTOK has a serviceable set.
