  1. As I understand it, a local firm is interested in WSIL.

Might they pull a Deltavision (or whoever the company is that bought WABG and others) and buy a bit more as well?? Indiana comes to mind.  And possibly Wisconsin and WJRT.

The only obvious outcome is Gray buying the OW stations (along with the rest of the Allen stations) and they become shells of WSAW and WMTV. They all qualify for failed station waivers.

Are you sure it's gotten that bad?

Bonus points if it ends up back on WUPA as 69.2 🤣

That's exactly what I just said on a private message with two of these people on this site!!!!

Get outta my head, dude. 😂😂😂

Gray just got their calls for the former WYOW allocation in WNWE, so it's very much possible all of the moves of the last seven years around Wausau will lead to a flat circle and them becoming an ABC affiliate again as a new license, though with it as a sub in Wausau proper.

As for WJRT, I could see Sinclair putting WSMH in the Rincon scrapheap and trying to buy them, though honestly a Weigel purchase with WJRT carrying most of their services as subs isn't far-fetched either as they have a good ABC relationship with WBND.

For that matter, is there an off chance of Weigel buying the chain in general.

You bring up some very valid points with the way ownership has transpired over the years there.

Making matters worse is the consolidation that brought in WXVT and allowed the creation of WNBD-LD, bringing all locally owned television under one roof.
Would you agree that it would have made more sense to pipe in distant affiliates of networks not already there?  This would have preserved more diversity in voices, and has been an issue in smaller markets that have had the ability to bring in local affiliates, at the expense of out-of-town stations that the local viewers have relied on for years, if not decades.

I knew someone who moved all the way from Shreveport to work at WABG and was back within two years.

Not that I would watch either show, but neither one of these shows airs here in Los Angeles (it hasn't in the last couple of years), as KTLA's continual news expansion and the late-night lineup of sitcoms, not to mention KDOC going all-religious, displaced Wilkos and Karmano locally.  NBCU is better off shopping to the shows to other stations, namely either KCOP or KCAL+.

I don't think either of the two airs in San Francisco or Denver as well

NBC has Peacock, CBS has Paramount+, the list goes on. Now Fox is jumping in with the launch of Fox One ahead of the NFL Season. They're housing Fox News, Fox Business, Fox Weather, Fox Sports, FS1, FS2, Deportes, FOX Local and Fox network all under one house.

So is Hulu just going to be primarily ABC after this summer?

Trust me, as long as Fox still has The Simpsons and company, Hulu will still continue to host ALL Fox shows.  And with that renewal, it's clear they're not going away from Fox.

Question: Last year or so, WHO in Des Moines introduced former KCCI meteorologist Metinka Slater to their station... I've yet to see her do anything on-air and a search of their website only shows the same introduction clip... Has anyone heard if she's even doing anything there?? (Not sure if this question belongs here or in Out & About -- move if needed)

Doesn't she usually fill in on weekends?

It looks like Sinclair is turning the keys over in Albany, Georgia with WFXL.

According to FCC filings, they have established a JSA with Marquee Broadcasting (owners of WSWG and WSST) and their "main studio/control point" is now at the same address as WSWG's studios in Albany.

This was one of the stations decimated in the 2023 layoffs.  It was already being run largely out of WGXA in Macon which itself was decimated as well.  These cuts left it without any local newscasts of any kind, aside from The National Desk.

Sinciair looks like they will still own the station, Marquee will likely be doing the legwork with it.

I have been predicting this since WSWG got sold to Marquee. And this won't be the last one either.

I would also add Nexstar's WYZZ since they're one of a few outside of TBN who carry his programming.

This counts double due to the Cunningham ownership.

Today's counterprogramming on Merit Street against football...Dr. Phil embedded in ICE raids in Chicago.

Even FNC wouldn't do this because they wouldn't want to be sued for filming people without permission, but I think any last guardrail against responsible broadcasting for Dr. Phil has been long passed. This is something you'd see from a YouTube streamer, not someone who used to at least have some respect in the industry.

Both him and TBN are being very highly irresponsible and going against everything they used to stand for; the elder Crouches weren't good people but at least at the end of the day they still never would have gone anywhere near this or worried about ratings outside their niche.

Hell, does Newsmax or Real America's Voice or The Blaze show this stuff?

Next? It could be AI anchors, AI meteorologists, and AI sports on a virtual set with only one 'producer' in some centrally-hubbed area sending reports from the MMJs to the AI. Whom we will only see in prerecorded reports - and only live during breaking news.

God, I hope we never fall that low in news journalism.

Please don't speak this into existence.

  12. This had been one of my fears whenever everyone was rooting for Allen to buy Tegna. I could tell from the programming that they put out that they were cheap as hell and would run everything on a shoestring budget. I was hoping that I would be wrong but look at what's happening now. I don't mean to sound pessimistic or be a "I-told-you-so" but what's happening at these stations is truly pathetic. How do you expect to be able to serve a market effectively if you're not actually based there?  Allen is unfit to hold any broadcast license. This makes me sick to my stomach.

Most of their stations ended up with Gray while a select few ended up fading into oblivion under Chelsey (eventual SSA bait) and WTRF ending up under West Virginia Media Holdings.

In the early days of broadcasting you saw stations outright fold (mostly UHF ones) and certain others here and there.  Equity was probably the most notable failure of late with their properties essentially dissolving under the digital transition and being totally rebuilt mostly by Daystar as totally new stations under the existing license. (Because Equity had not constructed the digital facilities in most places at the time)

And then I think some of those Chelsey stations ended up with Gray anyway but that's probably besides the point.

But I hope the Allen stations aren't gonna be screwed to the point of no return. This is nightmarish.

Maybe she is local but everything else is from Lincoln. Houston Hall, one of "KBSI's" Meteorologists, actually does weekends at KLKN Lincoln. Rusty Dawkins is the Chief for KBSI's news but is mainly the Chief at KLKN Lincoln.

They probably have her and all their reporters at KBSI but the rest has to be from KLKN.

Maybe they could take the opportunity to move everything to Missouri.
