  1. New M&A. Weigel has made TWO more buys.

They're acquiring L.A. "spectrum-less" station KAZA from Southern California License, LLC for $9M.

They're also getting St. Louis religious station, KNLC from for $3.75M.

Looks like this may just be a warm-up for them. If so, then it'll be interesting to see where they strike next.

I'm calling it now. They may end up with KUBE/Houston. MAY.

  2. There is a zero percent chance of wboc getting sold

The only way Sinclair could get it anyway, even if WBOC was for sale, is if the Tribune acquisition falls through. It's been mentioned several times by myself and others on this site that Sinclair will be over the cap by 6% if the acquisition goes forward. They can't buy anymore.

  3. I wouldn't be surprised if Sinclair bundled WNWO with a large chunk of their NBC affiliates in a group-wide affiliation pact. Otherwise NBC would be talking with Gray about moving (back) to a WTVG sub.

WTVG wouldn't be the only one called on at Gray. WCTV may be another possible target.

  4. Sorry for the double post but don't you think this will also mean that KMSP will add news to WFTC as well? Just like its other sister stations?

I could see a 7pm newscast. Or maybe Fox 9 News Now.

  5. As for Lockwood, Raycom would technically make more sense geographically when it comes to KTEN, KAKE, and WHDF (if shelled under American Spirit). WKNX and WSKY are probably worth less than $10 million for the two stations combined, but I don't know who would want to put money into a couple loser independents.

Exactly. Would Raycom necessarily want to run a standalone indie in Hampton Roads? If they were going to pair it with WTVZ (which in all honesty, is an independent itself), I would understand, though.

As I have said before, Raycom and Tegna are the only two I could really see geting involved unless all of the stations are sold in separate sales.

  6. I might not bet on Tegna acquiring WSKY. If David Smith and crew don't decide to shell it, Tegna may attempt to snag WTVZ from Sinclair to make that station the duopoly partner of WVEC. Either way, if Lockwood decides to drop out of the broadcasting biz, both stations are fair game. But I think that WSKY may either end up SSA bait for Nexstar or stay a standalone operation.

If Sinclair does manage to shell WTVZ thohgh, WSKY is their best and only option.

  7. It's not the same station, but if they wanted to they could rebrand WISH as WLWI and make it a de facto "spiritual successor"...

Ahhhh...everything old is new again. Has Nexstar EVER owned any radio assets?

    Not yet. In my opinion.

  8. They still need WLWT though, which is pretty much out of reach unless they make a trade.

Or a certain merger happens that will be Nexstar's version of the Sinclair-Tribune deal which will almost certainly never happen. Imagine the conflicts on that one.

  9. Part of me wonders if they wanted to rename WCMH back to WLWC and this was the easiest way to do it?

Good point. Maybe WCMH is not doing so hot lately and they want to reboot the station as WLWC. And then WDTN could go back to being WLWD.

  10. Between the Nexstar WAVY-WVBT duopoly and whichever stations Sinclair keeps between WTVZ and the WTKR-WGNT duopoly they inherited from Tribune, I think Tegna (nee Gannett and Belo) waited too late to pursue a duopoly with WSKY and WVEC. Can't see another duopoly being allowed for Norfolk.

At least, not without a waiver.

  11. They'd probably have Mission acquire WHDF and then enter into an SSA to operate it.

Mission, Marshall, White Knight, Shield, Vaughan, Super Towers. So many dadgum shells.

  12. Nexstar can't pick up WHDF - not enough full power stations in the market (unless they can pull a failing station stunt).

    J

Thats what I'm thinking they'll do.

  13. Nexstar can't acquire KAKE+ though as they already own KSNW+.

I already knew that but maybe someone else (Scripps? Meredith?) Could move in on that one.

Tegna and Raycom would be a clean deal for Lockwood.

  14. Nexstar hands down.

May as well call it now. Heck, Nexstar will probably pick up WHDF and KTEN as well. If Lockwood plans on leaving the business altogether. But if Tegna got it, they could get KTEN and WSKY in a package deal. WSKY could create a duopoly with WVEC. (That may need additional vetting however to make sure Norfolk can support another duopoly.)

  15. Unless Raycom starts a standalone news operation? I don't think Knoxville has ever had four operations.

There are 10 full powers with 9 owners in Knoxville, so one of them CAN legally acquire WKNX and create a duopoly.

Between Raycom, Tegna and Nexstar, which do you think is the most likely to make a move?

  16. Possibly, but it depends on who buys WKNX from Lockwood. Nexstar and TEGNA are possible, but so is Raycom.

For me, TEGNA is the most likely vote but then Nexstar. Raycom may be the least likely in my opinion.

  17. New M&A. And to me, this is pretty big.

KCSG in Utah is getting sold. The buyer, you would not believe it but I kid you not. It's Weigel Broadcasting for $1.1M.

This is the very first time they have acquired a station outside of the markets they've served.

What's Weigel doing buying stations? That's literally the last one I'd expect to be buying anything.

  18. You know what? At this point, I'm tired of coming back to political tv threads just to be branded as insane! Well as Apple once said, here's to the crazy ones bitches!!!

But seriously, it's easy to say that sinclair is acting like a bully and a baby to the critics, but once you get called insane so many times, ignoring that shit just makes it even worse!!!

And I never thought I'd have the displeasure of saying this but, Sinclair has to grow. Every fucking station group does nowadays thanks to digital media (including Youtube and Netflix)! And sinclair has balls that most other station groups dont have.

Trust me, I dont like that station group either, but they're a necessary evil if we want to win this culture war against modern day leftists (especially against Antifa). Actually, I take that sentence back. Sinclair isn't that neccessary anymore with local tv slowly but surely dying off and the viewers that are still watching slowly dying off with it. And besides, I wouldn't be caught dead with Bill O'Riley anywhere with me anyway. No. Instead, the Youtube skeptic community such as Sargon of Akkad, James Allsup, and Lauren Southern, are quite possibly our last hope in winning this culture war.

Look, I dont try to hide my biases like the media often does, and sometimes even sinclair in painfully obvious ways. In fact, by now since I said it far too many times, it should be clear what my biases are and there really is no such thing as truly unbiased journalism despite what people think.

Again, people will more that likely think I'm a fucking wacko but, here's to the fucking wackos shitheads!!!

Sorry, I sort of got carried away here, but my points still stand.

Y'all here we go again with this.

  19. New M&A.

Back on April 20, Deerfield Media has bought K45CX-D in Park City, UT for $1.75M. The sale was greenlighted June 22.

Even though they didn't form a JSA with Sinclair (they could've bought the station outright because the station is an LP), the Salt Lake Tribune said that they've made a partnership with Sinclair-owned KJZZ to air some of Park City TV's programming on KJZZ's signal.

Didn't sign a JSA, huh? What do we make of this, then?

And what does Deerfield want with that station anyway?
