  1. It was reported on TVNT and another news website that KSLA got rid of their Sunday morning newscasts. That's not true because I watched recently and they had it on. Just making sure y'all know.

  2. Repeat of News 8 Midday (12-1PM)

Better yet, why don't they do a live one since KDFW is now the only one on at Noon and theirs is only 30 minutes. However, if you see Nexstar or some dark horse candidate that would be willing to invest in a news department getting the station, that's less of a sure thing.

  3. Unfortunately, it appears KDAF is giving up on news. Just checked their schedule and they replaced Newsfix with a double run of Daily Mail TV.

KDFW is now the sole provider of 9pm news in Dallas.

If there was ever a time CBS/KTXA could get back in the game, it's now. I was actually a fan of their primetime news block. This is the perfect opportunity to try again. More than likely, this is wishful thinking, though.

  4. So strange how they and the Dallas Morning News treat him. It's almost as if the DMN thought he'd just dry up and blow away when they showed him the door years ago. The other DFW stations don't seem to mind Uncle Barky that much. And stupid, since he can get the information elsewhere that they think they are blocking from him.

It reminds me of hearing how Tracy Rowlett was excluded from the framed pictures of past/present on-air talent in the lobby of WFAA. Very parched-earth, very very sour grapes.

I only remember Rowlett from KTVT. One of the best. It's a shame how WFAA did him.

  5. Most of the CT/MT Hearst ABC stations haven't had middday shows for a while. I know WISN is getting or just got one. KOAT, KOCO and KMBC still don't have one.

In the Gannett years, KOCO did a noon newscast. To be honest, It's about time they reentered the noon game. That and adding a 4pm show.

  6. KTUL is Sinclair (as is KOKH). I remember as of a few years ago, KJRH was kind of on the rise while KTUL wasn't doing as well. Maybe Scripps has dragged KJRH down since then.

I hope they can make a comeback. Scripps isn't that bad of an owner but they just make careless mistakes.

  7. Congrats KJRH. You've now realized why your in last place in Tulsa and frankly, maybe in all of Oklahoma (at least by putting OKC and Tulsa together).

They can't be any worse than any of the Sinclair stations in the state, right?

  8. They did that in 1991 (it aired at 7:30 though) and it didn't last a year. While it might be more expensive, a WRC product might just do better, too.

It's better than what they were doing.

  9. To add to that, WDCW's 10pm newscast (produced by WTVR) is getting axed too. Always was going to be an uphill battle against FOX 5 in that slot...

And it's even worse off because it's not even locally produced in Washington. They'd have been better off going to WRC or someone local for a newscast.

  10. To add insult to injury, WJAR airs an infomercial between their 12:00 news and Days of Our Lives.

    That's KTAL exactly.

airing four Judge Judy episodes in a row

And this was also KTAL before the purchase of KSHV three years ago. Now, KSHV airs two reruns of Judy at 5 and 6pm, with Texarkana First News airing at 5:30 and 6:30, although they're moving the repeats of Judy to Noon and 12:30 pm to replace CWD. I know it's a Nexstar station but most Nexstar stations aren't that lazy. KTAL could do a 12:30 newscast leading out of Arkansas Today to lead into Days of Our Lives. It wouldn't have any competition as KTBS does theirs at 11am and KSLA's is only 30 minutes from Noon to 12:30 for obvious reasons.

  11. Looking at TV listings for 9/10, it appears the 3:00 news bug has hit Providence. WJAR is the one taking the dive there, an interesting thing for two reasons.

1: Providence has nobody doing news at 4:00.

2: This 3:00 newscast will be only a half hour. Filling the hole between it and Ellen is...an infomercial.

Even for a Sinclair station this seems extra lazy. Why not follow the lead of WCVB, WVIT, WNBC, WMTW, and assorted others and do Ellen at 3 with news at 4?

Exactly. Very lazy. KTAL and KSLA do that too, showing infomercials after Newscasts. Is it that much to either show an hour of news (or in KTAL's case, a local Newscast after Arkansas Today) or buy half hours of syndicated shows?

  12.

I posted that in the shout box. It wouldn't surprise me if they did because a great portion of CW viewers stream the shows anyway but that didn't stop a Sunday expansion from happening. If they could get affiliates to agree to Sunday nights, Saturday may not be a hard sell. Some stations would welcome it. KPXJ and KMYS both just air sitcom/drama reruns on Saturday night.

  13. They'll dump Escape and Laff first chance they get; those aren't networks Hearst has affiliations with solely for quality concerns, along with them being Scripps networks. I could see them also killing the "WPME" schedule off to remove the confusion of the Ion deal and move the 10 hours of dead weight to 51.1's overnights and bump it up to 1080i when they merge their MC in.

Ok. Hearst did drop those networks off of WCWG. However, they left Bounce TV (also a Scripps network) on the lineup. Escape and Laff may stay for all we know.

  14. Even though Lafayette is the odd market out, didn’t Gray once manage KLFY & the other Young Broadcasting stations at one point when Young was going through bankruptcy proceedings?? I could be wrong.

    They did.

  15. Then...you have stations like WPMI that make you keep score with their morning anchor team, since they have Kelly Foster doing double duty as a meteorologist and co-anchor to Darwin Singleton two days a week, and as a co-anchor joined by Jake Dunne the other 3 (who works on the weekends and fills in for the often-missing chief Chris Dunn).

Translation...they were too cheap to hire a replacement for Kelly Jones when she left and gave Kelly Foster some anchor time....

Ah. The meteorologist co anchoring. This is KSLA with Ron Young on the 9am newscast.
