  1. And yet they did manage to gobble up Schurz which doubled their portfolio. I'm just telling you what I've heard on the inside, Hilton is in a buying mood and watch out.

I don't doubt that they are. However, they have managed to be better than the other station groups. If you had to ask me would I rather have Gray or Sinclair in my market (and I do live in a market with a locally-owned station that manages to dominate over Raycom and Nexstar, even on it's CW-affiliated duopoly partner, which still manages to beat a Comcorp-turned Marshall/Nexstar Fox affiliate in the ratings.), I would definitely go running towards Gray. I do think that Gray made a mistake not selling off WSBT (and they could have found another owner rather than Sinclair imo.) to keep WNDU but I don't have much gripes about Schurz.

We shouldn't complain about Gray too much because there are 42 stations right now that wish that they could be heading to Gray at this moment.

  2. You make jokes now, but wait until he keeps gobbling up station groups like Nexstar and Sinclair have done. Just you watch.

I don't really see much that he can get. I mean sure, just about more people than I can count on this board has mentioned Graycom happening, but what if Raycom chooses to merge with Meredith? It's highly unlikely Gray will be able to afford Tegna (this has seriously been speculated on at least two websites, as well as on here), Hearst and any of the other big groups. Gray will probably get some of those small family chains but not much. I highly doubt we'll see Gray buying Hearst, Meredith, Scripps, Tegna, Cox etc.

  3. That'd be a good one. Maybe call the station "KX 9" after the Charter cable slot or even "KX 2" for the 2 in 27. I just think that if CBS does go on Channel 27, then it needs a new nickname because "KX 4" will be no good anymore (since KRDK took it).

KX 7 for the 7 in 27 would be good as well. Bonus points if they can get the cable providers to place them on channel 7 to match that.

  4. It's a good buy and will definitely easily get a failing station waiver; the former ownership literally kept it on the air with duct tape and dental floss and put zero effort into tech and station presentation (and it's mostly been playing FCC keep-away with long silent periods).

It's been cable only for the most part since 2010(?)

  5. http://www.tvnewscheck.com/article/111131/gray-creating-fargo-duopoly-with-kcpm-buy

And here we go again with Gray. This time they're buying KCPM in Fargo, to create a duopoly with KVLY (NBC). They also have a LPTV CBS affiliate, which leads me to believe that they may place CBS and CW on this signal and bump MNTV to another sub. Didn't know where to post this at so I posted it here.

They also say that they'll be selecting new call letters for the station? Could it become KXJB?

  6. Also it could meaning that KSMOTV becomes Independent

Becoming Independent? They already are independent. All MNT stations are, if you want to know the truth.

My Network TV could move to a Sub Channel on WDAF meaning more Newscasts for Fox 4as well

And why would this move happen? As much as MNT isn't a network, at the same time, it really would make no sense for WDAF to put MNT on a subchannel (A subchannel that would probably otherwise be broadcasting content from a diginet since most, if not, all of the syndicated product in KC is probably already claimed. They could do what Hearst did a couple years ago and start broadcasting second runs of talk/court/other shows on the subchannel but that would be an unlikely move. If for any reason, KSMO decided to jettison MNT to just put other shows on from 8-10, or whenever they broadcast the lineup and it were critical that MNT remain in the market (Any station could buy all the rights to every show on MNTV, since they also air in traditional syndication), It'd probably go over to KMCI first, or maybe on KCWE or WDAF late at night, but not a sub.

  7. New M&A.

Ion is buying Ironwood's WPME in Maine for $900K.

Is WPXT going with it? Or is WPME going alone?

More importantly, if its the latter then what happens? Does My Network simply go to a WPXT subchannel?

  8. This isn't really an Earth-shattering announcement but KSHV, one of the Nexstar stations in Shreveport, has added Ion Television in our area on 45.3. Our first time having it since KPXJ dropped it to join UPN/The CW. Just figured I'd note that here.

  9. We have a new M&A on this Black Friday.

Woods (owners of WCOV) wants to acquire Cozi station WIYC for $1M. And wants to use the 'failed waiver" to get it.

Tbh, I always wondered why someone didn't do that way back in the day when it was with MyNetwork. It certainly could have qualified back then.

  10. Given the investment Sinclair has made in a WTVH-exclusive news product, I wonder how viable it would be for Granite to sell to someone that isn't a Sinclair shell. Who would even go after a third place station that's shown some potential? Heartland? Quincy? Gray? Hubbard owning its first CBS affiliate ever?

Quincy certainly does come to mind. They should have bought it when they got most of Granite's television stations earlier.

  11. I can see the whole company going piecemeal with Hearst, Graham and other companies grabbing a piece.

A few of these stations are O&O bait as well. Specifically KUSA, WXIA, WCNC and KPNX which could all become NBC O&Os.

I can see Hearst getting most of the company with Graham grabbing any conflict stations. Meredith may get a few conflicts as well. IIRC, I discussed this in the Speculatron.

  12. That's all stuff for the Speculatron, in which I created a new thread about yesterday.

So, how much did Weigel get for the WMLW spectrum? That should give you an idea of how much they have left for acquisitions.

I've already posted my two cents in that thread. There's a lot more to come from them.

  13. I'm sure it fascinated Fox Kids viewers in 1994 when it asked kids to write to the governor of Missouri to halt a planned execution.

How about that time they talked about premarital sex?

  14. There's nothing stopping Weigel from taking Azteca off (or keeping the affiliation), and plug-in their own networks, but they do have the experience running a Spanish-language station. However, Milwaukee isn't Los Angeles, where's four other network-owned Spanish stations, and a fifth one (KWHY) that's an indie, plus the multiple Spanish subchannels elsewhere across the L.A. dial.

One thing is certain though...as soon as the Me-TV (KDOC/KVME) and Heroes & Icons (KCOP) affiliations are done, the current junk pay-for-pray subchannels on KAZA will disappear, and the Weigel diginets (at least those two) will be plugged-in. Weigel also has the joint ventures with CBS (Decades) and Fox (Movies!), but I think those subchannels are staying put where they are (KCBS 2.2 and KCOP 13.3, respectively).

I always saw Weigel (or even Hearst/Nexstar/One of the major companies) buying KDOC. It could still happen, and I'd actually still be shocked when it does.

  15. They're acquiring L.A. "spectrum-less" station KAZA from Southern California License, LLC for $9M.

I didn't respond to this part specifically for some reason, but this is the more shocking of the acquisitions. Literally anything could happen after this clears.

  16. Or maybe they want to try to take FOX away from KTVI if it is kept by Sinclair?

Weigel could do that. They've proven themselves great at running major network stations in addition to independents. Granted, WDJT and WBND aren't exactly #1, but you have to give them credit for not throwing in the towel or constantly shaking things up and relaunching constantly. Under them, KNLC would make a fine Fox or ABC affiliate.
