WTOL has been TEGNA-ized.  Haven't seen it on-air yet, but this is what they're promoting on social media.

    (Gawd I hope this isn't their logo - I don't think it is...but eeeeeeeew.)

How long did it take them to make this? I could make a better one in Microsoft Paint and I'm not even good at this at all.

Coming back to bite them there? Those stations have little standalone value as well.

KPEJ probably has little value but KMSS and KLJB probably could stand on their own.

I'm now more dumber for having read this. You clearly don't know the woman JacobC, so put your pitch fork and torch away, sit down and shut up. Show some respect and be glad she found another job. Also, you show clear inability to splice together a coherent thought. Work on it.

    Amen, brother!

To tell you the truth, I don't have the answer for that. However, I can be wrong, but I can predict that KWGN will launch channel 2.5 for Court TV.

I think it'll definitely be one of the Sinclair networks that get's dropped. You can easily stream those via STIRR so why the need for the channel space?

    Oh, definitely option B.

Sadly, I can also see Sinclair going scorched earth with the affected stations, removing equipment, laying off nearly all of the employees, and generally dismantling the stations so that any potential buyers won't get much.

That wouldn't fly, FCC would be even further up their ass about that. Media General tried to pull the same shit when Gray bought Schurz-owned MG-operated WAGT in Augusta. They managed to get away with damaging equipment and trucks beyond repair before it was delivered to WRDW but the FCC fined their ass so heavy they couldn't see straight.

Why do I feel like Sinclair would have done this with at least some of the proposed divestitures in the Tribune deal?

I don't know if anybody know this, but ABC might considering bring two legendary soaps back from the dead.

    https://www.goldderby.com/article/2019/all-my-children-one-life-to-live-return-abc-news/

I think this time if they tried streaming them again, it would work. Obviously, Disney would use Hulu to stream them on since they're adult oriented. I can't see them coming back on broadcast television unless they were first-run syndicated (and even when it was common to see scripted content in first run syndication, has there ever been a daily soap that aired in first run syndication?)

As someone that thoroughly enjoyed The Chew, the last months after Mario Batali's firing were rough. The show would've needed a little retooling and additional co-hosts.

I'm in agreement with this as well, but I can't see them coming back unless again, it was either streamed or aired in syndication. The Chew would probably have at least a remote chance of making it if you assembled the right team (although it wouldn't air on ABC O&Os since they're already crowded enough as it is, to the extent that Tamron Hall is going to air on WCIU).

I hope Nexstar and Gray go away like RKO General did, as well.

We have 3 mega groups. We have Sinclair and Nexstar, of course, but we also now have Gray as a mega group. We know how bad Sinclair and Nexstar are, and Gray is also about as bad as Nexstar.

And at this point (and this may be even more sad than it already is), Gannettegna and Scripps may also end up going the RKO General route. Both once-great companies that went downhill and are now "ripe" for sale.

A lot of people give Nexstar way too little credit lately. I've said it before and I'll say it again. The Media General merger is the best thing that ever happened to them and the Tribune merger will probably enhance them even further. Nexstar has improved the way they operate their stations tremendously since they merged into Media General, adding newscasts on stations, and trying to serve underserved audiences, to name a few. We're being way too hard on them. In my opinion, the way Nexstar operates could perhaps be viewed as better than Tegna or Scripps, depending on the perspective. Nexstar is working hard to shed their negative reputation.

So I guess you'll regard Super Bowl 54 as Super Bowl 53, and you'll have Pittsburgh as the only team who have won 6 Super Bowls.

    Exactly.

Makes me wonder what would have happened if WWL decided to protest and black out the game...

I'm not in the New Orleans area, I'm in Shreveport but I wouldn't have blamed them for doing it. I would imagine most of the other CBS affiliates in areas where the Saints have preseason presence probably suffered too. However, WWL has made no secret of it's displeasure at being forced to air the bowl. A look at it's Facebook page and replies to comments will tell you everything you need to know.

As anticipated, the Superbowl drew drastically low ratings, especially in New Orleans.  Overnight numbers showed the game drew rougly HALF of prior Superbowls and even some regular season games on local New Orleans TV.

I think the NOLA fans won the Superbowl.  They got screwed by the refs by the no call, and the game was an absolute shit show for the NFL.

Speaking for all of us Who Dats, We were certainly not dissapointed by what happened last night. Of course, a lot of us never watched.

Please note, that Gray has a permit in College Station, K49LC-D RF 49 -> 27, to potentially serve as a satellite for the "new" KNCT.

That could just be a relay for KBTX's CW subchannel. There is precedent to that because KNOE's CW subchannel is rebroadcast on KCWL, and Gray does this in several other markets where they operate.

  12. 13 hours ago, CircleSeven said:

Gray has completed the KNCT acquisition, as of Monday (12/17).

It'll be interesting to see what programming there be putting on this new station.

I think they'll just move the CW over to KNCT for some reason. I don't agree with the whole Telemundo thing that everyone has been saying.

  13. 7 minutes ago, GoldenShine9 said:

Their GM is resigning too, largely because of how Sinclair handled this. Maybe he'll find a job somewhere else under another owner in a bigger market and hand Alex a contract? (Even if a smaller market, they could give her a lead anchor job).

This is 100% made in Hunt Valley.

And then look who is the main one retweeting about Chris Bradley.  Could this shit be any more fucked up than it is? Thank God he was at WBNS when this happened, or Sinclair probably would have fired him on the day of his funeral. I apologize if this offends anyone but someone has to point out the hypocrisy here. I can't be the only one who sees this.

One problem though. A move of "Fox 29" to WHDT would run afoul of the rule the FCC put in place a few years ago that makes such moves subject to the top four rule.

How do you know that WHDT will become a top 4 station as a Fox affiliate? It's never universal that the Top 4 will consist of Fox, CBS, NBC and ABC. Chicago, Miami, Fresno, San Antonio, El Paso, St. Louis and Hampton Roads (the latter two of which alternate, staying in those spots just long enough for certain combinations to be approved), show that very well.

  15. 4 minutes ago, NEOMatrix said:

Would make sense, especially if Gray and/or Scripps are terminating the SSA and "Fox 29" moves to WHDT. However, that does leave Gray with a WFLX without any programming.

You can just dump that off on anyone that'll put some programming on it that would otherwise be on a digital subchannel.

    Some New M&As.

NBC is acquiring Telemundo affiliates in Sacramento & Salt Lake City, owned by Serestar Communications  for $21M.

Also, Scripps is buying independent station WHDT in Stuart, FL, from Gunter Marksteiner, for $25M.

It already owns the NBC station WPTV and operates the Raycom-owned Fox outlet WFLX.

No telling what they'll be using the new channel for, once the deal is done.

Did they buy the CW or MyNetwork affiliation from Sinclair behind the scenes? That's just about the only reason I could come up with for why Scripps would want WHDT unless they plan on moving WFLX's unit to that channel. I mean, this is out of left field, here.

And now, Sinclair is attempting - not believably - to distance themselves from Boris Epshteyn's commentary piece about the migrant tear gassings at the Tijuana border checkpoint, amid heavy criticism and a statement by the National Association of Hispanic Journalists disclosing it is reconsidering allowing Sinclair representatives to attend the organization's job recruitment events. A tweet by Sinclair representatives used the standard-bear response of broadcasters that the opinions "do not reflect the views of Sinclair Broadcast Group.” It's less believable in this case, given that the defense of using tear gas to deter migrants from entering the border has been espoused by other conservative media outlets, including by guests who have discussed this issue on Fox News, with no attempt at distancing.

You can't with these people. At first this was a soap opera, then this veered into Telenovela territory....and then sitcom territory......and now I think we've reached animated sitcom about a dumbass idiot territory

  18. Folks, it was three months ago I predict Jason Wheeler would be John McCaa's successor when he retires in March of next year... but I was wrong, it's Chris Lawrence who'll be joining News 8 at 5, 6 & The Update at 10pm. Lawrence who's currently at WRC/NBC 4 will join WFAA in January 2019, the station announced today, and will move into the evening anchor role filled by McCaa, who has already announced that he'll retire March 1st.

    https://www.wfaa.com/article/news/local/chris-lawrence-joins-wfaa-to-co-anchor-evening-newscasts-in-march-2019/287-615957480

I'm a bit skeptical about bringing in a fresh face to a station like WFAA. I'm curious as to what stopped Wheeler from getting the position.

  19. WEWS - General Hospital and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire!!!!!

News 5 didn't bother to go into breaking news coverage, except for a ticker at the bottom on-air, and of course its website and social media. To me, that's like saying not to bother watching the station anymore. That is a prime example of dropping the ball big time.

First, KJRH and now WEWS. I really hope Scripps can realize that this isn't the way to do things. Otherwise, I feel sorry for Cordillera, KXXV, WTXL and potentially Tribune or Cox as well.
