  1. I just roll my eyes to this. Nothing surprises me anymore with WLS, especially when it comes to Cheryl Scott because she's the princess around there.

    She's up against:

    Skilling: 38 years at WGN

    Miller: 25 years at WMAQ

    Baskerville: 29 years at WBBM

  2. How do traffic anchor/feature reporter and breaking news anchor relate? Seems like decidedly different roles to me.

I can't believe I'm (sort of) defending WFLD, but I must admit that, on paper, they seem to be making a conscious effort to put together a broadcast that is different from the competitors. It probably won't work, but neither would a copycat format. And to those that think it's stupid to being jumping into early fringe, sometimes it's not about ratings, but trying to show your commitment and seriousness about being a competitive news operation. I have more respect for them trying, than waving the white flag of surrender like they've been doing in that time period for the last decade.

How long has the noon arrangement been like that? I swear, anytime I've tuned in over the last few months, it's been any of the four morning anchors, Lisa Chavarria (why she gets anchoring assignments, I'll never know), or Schneider anchoring (still haven't seen Kristen anchor).

Lisa has only been off the noon show for two or three weeks tops.

  3. Looks like they're going to have a "Sarah Jindra" at 5pm.

    From CRM:

"In addition, the newscast will have a live breaking news desk that will be able to cover important breaking news, including traffic and weather emergencies. At the helm of this live desk will be WFLD-TV's weekend news anchors Scott Schneider and Kristen Nicole, with the two splitting the weekday duties between them."

  4. Yeah. 50-something. Brant's 66, Andy's 59, and Byron is like 57. It's not totally crazy to think they're starting to think for the future.

Didn't realize Byron was that old. I was thinking he was around 45 or 50.

  5. Apparently they're bringing in the weekend crew at 9 & 10 tonight they gave Mark and Micah (and tom) the day off. They'll be sending Rich King off, tonight, as well. (Hence the reason Bob and Jackie are there)

  6. Taking a look at Feder's "Things to look for in 2016" post this morning, and there it was: Cheryl is a shoo-in for the 10pm newscast this year... BUT Taft will likely stay at the station and work on "earlier weekday newscasts." The Cheryl point is no surprise, but the idea that Jerry won't retire is highly interesting. The prevailing notion has always been that he would hang it up and Scott would take over as chief, and weather anchor for the flagship 10pm news. But if he stays and they essentially switch places, I have a feeling that this will be a very awkward and problematic transition... Not only would it come as a shock to regular viewers who don't follow this as closely as we do, it would also create other delicate issues like who would be named "chief?"

AND they've still got the opening on their website for a meteorologist. This should get interesting.
