At WABC, the afternoon (4PM) anchor’s day starts around 10AM. The evening (5/6/11) anchor’s day starts at 2:00PM. Their time is spent in story meetings, writing some of their own copy, doing newsbriefs, writing or recording for online platforms, prepping for and recording public affairs shows, working on sweeps projects, mentoring interns, and yes, anchoring.

Anybody who doesn’t understand how a newsroom workday actually works should get a job in one and stop watching Mary Tyler Moore Show reruns.

When did the WABC evening anchors quit taking 2-3 hour dinners?

    Last night?

(pssst...don't tell those new kids over at Scripps, they might only get 1/2-1hr lunch)

This is in reference to this article regarding the sale of KFMB's radio stations

    https://radioinsight.com/headlines/182739/local-media-san-diego-acquires-kfmb-am-fm/

Not a surprise to see Tegna sell it's radio stations, it was likely known for quite some time that Tegna was going to sell the Radio stations

Like we used to say in Lone Grove, Ok...

"Just take it behind the barn and shoot it...and hurry back inside to watch the end of Dallas on tv."

Not really much in the way of "closure" for us in that deal.

That makes me sad just to see it die like that.

  3. `Tis the time for Holiday and Christmas cheer here at KBEX-TV

This year we took a survey of TVNT members and asked "what should KBEX broadcast on Christmas day?"

Well this year it won't just be another Yule Log (tm)...or a piece of flaming poop.

    This year KBEX-TV Presents...

    Yule Boris- 2019

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from all of us at KBEX-TV Surfridge/Socal

    And from the KBEX-Interns...

huh?  That move is about 4 years away.

    Plans, Permits etc...

    It's NYC for God sake.

Yup I would actually say 5-6 years given the process and delays that will be involved.

Make NO mistake, the planning has already begun.

Of course ABC could take a quicker route...

I was just coming here to comment on that. Wasn’t sure if they have made the move recently and I missed it but interesting to see them there years after moving away.

I would expect all kinds of strange "musical chairs" at all the ABC production/ news studios in the NYC area.

The reason is the upcoming move at Columbus square and all the tech craziness that will be part of it.

ABC and WABC will need to improvise over the course of the move.

IE: EWN being able to work out of Times Square if needed for an hour, week or month. There will need to be some redundancy practiced "just in case"...

You plan for the worst, and hope for the best.

What happens when there are no sister stations in the market though? For example, if something happened in Chattanooga...it's the one Tennessee market that Nexstar is not in.

Well since it's the south"... they probably just find a willing cousin.

Slightly off-topic, but I'm curious how they deal with moving master controls.  Do they need to take the station off the air while the switch is made?  Or can it be done internally without interrupting the signal or programming?

You shouldn't have to take the station off the air (or get knocked off the air) with a little proper planning.

Don't Try This At Home or Without proper Adult Supervision.

    Pretty simple actually...

Your video, audio and data links all (presumably) have active back-up paths and circuits, that are used for maintenance or emergencies..

They are extra channels or spare "pipelines".

On the big day, all you do is switch to the back-up circuits while you shut down the "main feeds" and establish and test the new signals.

Once you are happy with the new signals...you just switch back from the back-up line to the main lines.

...and since you did a secret "test of the test" a few hours or days before...you are certain all will be fine once it's all "official".

    Yes! The WPIX Yule Log.

It will be interesting this year as to how its handled as its the first with Nexstar on most Tribune stations but with WPIX taking over from Scripps.

    Yup...

They ALL fall for that trick in the first year...

Wouldn't they want to make a big switch like that at the start of sweeps?

    No,

You want to work out all the little bugs that will occur live on the air anyway.

Best to have it perfected before sweeps begin....because there WILL be problems.

Tribune had a build it/break it attitude. Nexstar strikes me so far as much more like a corporation, conservative but strategic, placing value in documentation and accounting for every penny. I also suspect Nexstar and Los Angeles will clash more often in the future.

I will up that $100, and say that Nexstar and Hollywood are about to hit 'head -on" in the middle of Sunset Boulevard...

I wonder if the move to Washington DC will stop the bleeding?

    Nope!

This show is bleeding out fast...

Remember that uncle Walter used to play to 29 million viewers each evening. That was in 1976, and the population of the USA was only 200 million people.

Nora barely gets 5 million viewers per show.

I'm curious to know where here career will take her and if she plans leave the industry. After the blackface incident, she is now damaged goods,...

She is no longer considered  damaged goods with that blackface thing...that was like 2 years ago.

The Governor of Virginia has at least 2 pics in blackface...and the PM of Canada was also exposed with pics..

Both men are still in office.

    Kelly had NO pics.

It was a bunch of 'cancel culture' fake outrage, that most sane people now see right through.

I think Kelly is gonna bounce back...Big time. There are a whole bunch of suburban tv news watching mommy's just looking for a new moderate/conservative idol to follow.

Her return is being carefully plotted right now, and will be sprung in time for the elex fun.

That's like I've tried to convince my parents to replace Cable with Streaming because it's cheaper to do it that way but my Parents just simply refuse to do it and I live under their roof so I really don't have a say so when it comes to this stuff

Your parents only want the best for you.

You can tell they care because people who stream, are the same folks that also vape, speed and use those hooka bongs .

The cable tv signal is much more pure and organic, and  cable consumes much less electrons for a far more reliable and better signal. Cable is green and is endorsed by Greta the climate girl.

With streaming comes corruption of bits and data, hackers and viruses and all kinds of other cooties that pollute those internet streams.  Plus... lots of streamers are just plain thugs.

Your folks care about you...and so do all of us here at tvnt.

    BTW...

This is what I had for a tv under my folks roof, I had to buy it myself, it got 6 local channels via a telescoping antenna. It came with an earphone. and cost me $69 dollars at Fedmart.

    image.png.905ee0ab6f8d761c8b72e69253f73330.png

When I decided I wanted 13 channels of "cable tv, I bought a cable splitter and tapped off my parents outlet ...thus committing a misdemeanor that could have followed me on my permanent record.

We just don't want to see you fall into the wrong crowd of vaping, thuggish hoons, streaming all kinds of derelict programming.

It wasn’t bad enough that WPIX has been a train wreck for years. But Tribune management was well aware of it, and chose not to do a thing about it. Maybe they didn’t want to spend the money. Maybe they didn’t want to make changes ...

Just wait till the Scripps people meet those huge rats...and I mean the furry ones...NOT the union ones.

If I was AT&T I would put up a slide that details how much everybody pays for Disney channels today, how much they want and how much their bill will be going up if Disney gets what they want. I would imagine the fee is pretty substantial with ESPN involved. And if you live in a market with an O&O, I bet you it's costing you over 10 bucks.

    You are pretty close...

    Based on these 2017 numbers.

Agreed. In fact, I see this thread shut down if it doesn't stop. Let's get back on topic, people!

It's not a political discussion Roly.

It's a discussion about the broadcasting of the national anthem, and the history behind it.

The fact that a station owner or group chooses to play the national anthem DOES NOT  make that group or owners automatically part of any one political party or belief.

Nothing wrong with showing we are all proud Americans.

If Roly wants to decide what threads should be locked, then he should apply to be a moderator.
