And let's go back to showing everything in only black and white, right? :classic_rolleyes:

    Yeah!

And let's bring back those casting couches...

But this time put those neato plastic covers on them like at my Grandmas house, so nobody gets V.D.

That's like I've tried to convince my parents to replace Cable with Streaming because it's cheaper to do it that way but my Parents just simply refuse to do it and I live under their roof so I really don't have a say so when it comes to this stuff

Your parents only want the best for you.

You can tell they care because people who stream, are the same folks that also vape, speed and use those hooka bongs .

The cable tv signal is much more pure and organic, and  cable consumes much less electrons for a far more reliable and better signal. Cable is green and is endorsed by Greta the climate girl.

With streaming comes corruption of bits and data, hackers and viruses and all kinds of other cooties that pollute those internet streams.  Plus... lots of streamers are just plain thugs.

Your folks care about you...and so do all of us here at tvnt.

    BTW...

This is what I had for a tv under my folks roof, I had to buy it myself, it got 6 local channels via a telescoping antenna. It came with an earphone. and cost me $69 dollars at Fedmart.

    image.png.905ee0ab6f8d761c8b72e69253f73330.png

When I decided I wanted 13 channels of "cable tv, I bought a cable splitter and tapped off my parents outlet ...thus committing a misdemeanor that could have followed me on my permanent record.

We just don't want to see you fall into the wrong crowd of vaping, thuggish hoons, streaming all kinds of derelict programming.

    That’s humor, right?

It wasn’t bad enough that WPIX has been a train wreck for years. But Tribune management was well aware of it, and chose not to do a thing about it. Maybe they didn’t want to spend the money. Maybe they didn’t want to make changes ...

Just wait till the Scripps people meet those huge rats...and I mean the furry ones...NOT the union ones.

If I was AT&T I would put up a slide that details how much everybody pays for Disney channels today, how much they want and how much their bill will be going up if Disney gets what they want. I would imagine the fee is pretty substantial with ESPN involved. And if you live in a market with an O&O, I bet you it's costing you over 10 bucks.

    You are pretty close...

    Based on these 2017 numbers.

Agreed. In fact, I see this thread shut down if it doesn't stop. Let's get back on topic, people!

It's not a political discussion Roly.

It's a discussion about the broadcasting of the national anthem, and the history behind it.

The fact that a station owner or group chooses to play the national anthem DOES NOT  make that group or owners automatically part of any one political party or belief.

Nothing wrong with showing we are all proud Americans.

If Roly wants to decide what threads should be locked, then he should apply to be a moderator.

Well Mexican stations (like XETV) would start the "broadcast day" (around 5am or so) by playing the National Anthem. Last I check, Mexico hasn't delved into an autocracy.

    And my good friend...

XETV had RESPECT enough to play both national anthems (USA and Mexican) at sign on and sign-off.

    Total Class!

How about I'm an atheist because of my objectivity. Also, having the national anthem play every night is trending toward state-controlled media and nationalism. I'm definitely against that.

Being Atheists does not automatically make  you "objective" in the world of true journalism. It's not some magic inoculation for being TRULY unbiased.. It's just say's "I'm Athiest...and nothing more. Just another "opinion."

I hope your not claiming to be a journalist of some type.

Unfortunately, they picked the worst LPTV to be on. They have the worst signal, and it looks like it's all leased out. A channel can be down for weeks before they'll do something about it. In the case of Newsnet, the volume is turned down so low you can barely hear anything.

Don't you know you NEVER tell a man with an ugly dog...that his dog is ugly.

Yes it's bush, rough and unpolished, but it's not trying to be anything but a startup all news operation, that has to start somewhere.

I'm totally rooting for these kids and every single crappy cheap Chinese tv transmitters they occupy. These guys KNOW what a budget is because they don't have one....

They trade aluminum cans for satellite time...

They eat Cheerios out of ziplock bags that mom packs for them...She  still has to cut up their meat into little squares, and trim the crust off the bread...

    They all get naps...

...and I bet the news director can't even buy cigarettes or a dirty mag until he turns 18.

    Besides,

    It's fun to watch!

At least some still get an allowance for doing the chores.

The before and after of the changes of the video wall set for in studio interviews and weather forecasts.

In addition to changing the video panels to a solid screen they added two dark blue panels to the top and bottom on the right side.AF_08_02_19a.thumb.jpeg.2798b587eb815969a16e936d9645d80e.jpeg

I think the combination pool / ice rink is a nice added touch to the set.

Those Disney folks sure know forward thinking set design.

Beats the hell out of that CBS News Roomba.

I don’t know. Black could just be from lack of content being played and but the panel could still be on. But I’ve only seen it a handful of times in pictures.

Just depends on the monitor/tv manufacture. Some default to blue...some to green and some to black when signal is not present.

    Funny monitor story...

In the mid to late 1990's CNN Atlanta was slowly replacing the original CRT monitors in the newsrooms, edit bays and control rooms. As engineers and contractors replaced the sets, many of the old ones ended up stacked in corners, hallways and break rooms.  As you can guess...some of those monitors "walked away" and found new homes as video game monitors, extra tv's for kids rooms or grandmas house...

It was not unusal to find some low paid CNN VJ or production type watching an old Sony monitor...with "CNN" burned into the CRT in the lower right corner of the screen.

(For you youngsters...CNN was not as graphic intense back then....but the yellow/orange CNN bug was always there, so the image would "burn in" the screen after being always on screen year after year.)

This type of concept has been used sporadically in recent months in I-Team segments, using more visually-interesting ways to display things like statistics and such. Even with a dedicated person on staff, I'm curious how that would be effectively translated into general storytelling.

It's wonderful if you have the time, money and resources to do all this on a daily basis.

    Most stations don't, and won't.

The TV News formula is now pushing data from one platform to another with minimal cost, liability and embarrassment.

And what about all that re-training?

Give me a big budget for that animation team and all those nice expensive graphics crunchers, make sure you staff the weekends too...

It's nice if your station group is willing to make a long term commitment...but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Remember that WCBS 880 is no longer part of the same company as WCBS TV.  CBS sold the radio division to Entercom about 2 years ago.  Sharing on air personalities is not longer a given and would require contracts.  Entercom is licensing the call letters and contracted with CBS News to provide news updates (with a name change to differentiate).  It used to be that most TV and radio stations used one or two traffic suppliers like the former Shadow Traffic and then Total Traffic.  The supplier used to provide the talent so there were backups.  Clearly with CBS, that model has changed and its no longer a priority.

And remember that traffic reports are usually barter situations...

A company like Total Traffic provides the people and infrastructure to provide the reports to the station in exchange for ad inventory that the traffic service sells at whatever rate they can get.

Unless WCBS TV creates it's own in house traffic department...then they won't really be able to compete with just a lone "traffic anchor".

Plenty of other sources for the same traffic and transit info like the live 511 services popping up all over the country,

KOFY just ended their 9pm LIVE produced newscast from KGO with a short farewell. They announced that they will continue to air their rebroadcasts of ABC 7 News at 7pm and 11:30pm

Looks like KRON will now dominate the 9pm slot.

How many of you remember when KOFY had it's very own news department?

We reach into the great "Vault 'O Newz".....

This is probably the only remaining artifact of that short lived news operation...which is housed at the KBEX-TV Museum of News and other Crap.
