It's not a political discussion Roly. It's a discussion about the broadcasting of the national anthem, and the history behind it. The fact that a station owner or group chooses to play the national anthem DOES NOT make that group or owners automatically part of any one political party or belief. Nothing wrong with showing we are all proud Americans. If Roly wants to decide what threads should be locked, then he should apply to be a moderator.

And my good friend... XETV had RESPECT enough to play both national anthems (USA and Mexican) at sign on and sign-off. Total Class!

USA #1 Being Atheists does not automatically make you "objective" in the world of true journalism. It's not some magic inoculation for being TRULY unbiased.. It's just say's "I'm Athiest...and nothing more. Just another "opinion." I hope your not claiming to be a journalist of some type. I will let you have the last word.

Seriously??? What on earth can be wrong with the national anthem? This is America... Love it...or leave it. Enjoy Labor day...and lets all pray for those in the path of Dorian. (insert pic of big ass American flag with patriot loving shark)

Sinclair Broadcast Group - General Discussion

Don't you know you NEVER tell a man with an ugly dog...that his dog is ugly. Yes it's bush, rough and unpolished, but it's not trying to be anything but a startup all news operation, that has to start somewhere. I'm totally rooting for these kids and every single crappy cheap Chinese tv transmitters they occupy. These guys KNOW what a budget is because they don't have one.... They trade aluminum cans for satellite time... They eat Cheerios out of ziplock bags that mom packs for them...She still has to cut up their meat into little squares, and trim the crust off the bread... They all get naps... ...and I bet the news director can't even buy cigarettes or a dirty mag until he turns 18. Besides, It's fun to watch! At least some still get an allowance for doing the chores. -
Rich Lieberman is reporting that Natasha Zouves is leaving KGO-TV for a much smarter place... http://richliebermanreport.blogspot.com/2019/08/415-media-exclusive-zouves-leaving-kgo.html

Here is a cool little story about a guy who worked at QTV in Queensland , and hid a bunch of news archive film from his bosses so it wouldn't get thrown in the trash... https://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/national/queensland/when-a-tv-station-tried-to-discard-40-years-of-film-one-man-fought-back-20190721-p5299z.html

I think the combination pool / ice rink is a nice added touch to the set. Those Disney folks sure know forward thinking set design. Beats the hell out of that CBS News Roomba.

"The CNN Democratic Debates... ...From the "FOX" Theater in Detroit..." You can't make this stuff up.

Just depends on the monitor/tv manufacture. Some default to blue...some to green and some to black when signal is not present. Funny monitor story... In the mid to late 1990's CNN Atlanta was slowly replacing the original CRT monitors in the newsrooms, edit bays and control rooms. As engineers and contractors replaced the sets, many of the old ones ended up stacked in corners, hallways and break rooms. As you can guess...some of those monitors "walked away" and found new homes as video game monitors, extra tv's for kids rooms or grandmas house... It was not unusal to find some low paid CNN VJ or production type watching an old Sony monitor...with "CNN" burned into the CRT in the lower right corner of the screen. (For you youngsters...CNN was not as graphic intense back then....but the yellow/orange CNN bug was always there, so the image would "burn in" the screen after being always on screen year after year.)

It's wonderful if you have the time, money and resources to do all this on a daily basis. Most stations don't, and won't. The TV News formula is now pushing data from one platform to another with minimal cost, liability and embarrassment. And what about all that re-training? Give me a big budget for that animation team and all those nice expensive graphics crunchers, make sure you staff the weekends too... It's nice if your station group is willing to make a long term commitment...but I'm not getting my hopes up.

And remember that traffic reports are usually barter situations... A company like Total Traffic provides the people and infrastructure to provide the reports to the station in exchange for ad inventory that the traffic service sells at whatever rate they can get. Unless WCBS TV creates it's own in house traffic department...then they won't really be able to compete with just a lone "traffic anchor". Plenty of other sources for the same traffic and transit info like the live 511 services popping up all over the country,

How many of you remember when KOFY had it's very own news department? We reach into the great "Vault 'O Newz"..... This is probably the only remaining artifact of that short lived news operation...which is housed at the KBEX-TV Museum of News and other Crap.

Maybe the hit was non-sponsored and the producer took the time back for other news. Are the shows even sold out right now?
-
Was there a video montage? I have higher hopes for your second post.

They probably want to start out small and see what the reaction is from the local businesses that will be courted for ads, and to sponsor segments. You can always expand the (lifestyle) show if it takes off....and knock the news back to 5 minutes at the top of the show. It's all about selling the lifestyle portion of the show.

A good part of the "Sam Demo" also spends weekends in Miami, Bahamas, Hamptons etc... Frolicking in the surf...and hitting the clubs at night. (don't make me dig out more speedo pics) Certainly NOT unusual behavior of a New Yorker by any means. I'm sure plenty of Sam's regular viewers say to themselves... " I wonder if we will see Sam this weekend at..." ...TWIST, Back Door Miami, Azucar NightClub, Jamboree Lounge, Palace Bar, SheLife Events, Club Boi, The Hub at the LGBT Visitor Center, Beach Betty's Bar, J's Bar .... ...and any one of those clubs would love to be able to claim Sam as a "regular" because that brings in more guest...and that "Sam Demo" has plenty of disposable income to party with. WABC and Sam would be total fools NOT to exploit that in some fashion as there are plenty of New Yorkers in SoFla most the year.

I wonder why she didn't get a big send-off like Carlos got... And WTF is going on with Ruberti she looks like she is just ghost posting on twitter and FB just to preserve her brand. I think it looks kinda sad. Big purges like this can only mean one or two things... Could we be coming to "that point"....where the big guy gets dementia...and JR. starts making the daily decisions including....... To be continued...
-
Well you don't have to be mean about it. She may be a bit older...but she can still plow a good sized field, carry 10 sacks of corn flour, and still pull a wagon to the mill. And the viewers still like her.
