  1. WWL has made a very smart move here... Keep those local ad dollars at home...and under the Tenga roof. I don't think Tegna has been passing these shows off as some kind of newscast. Sure there is a news element inside the shows such as a headlines and wx segment, but the rest is just ads. Mira, Your morning newscast is produced by your news department and it's operating budget is under news. The sales department sells spots on this show to support the Tv station. The concept of the "lifestyle" show is very simple. Many small businesses cannot afford to buy a whole entire "run" of commercials. 50 commercials can run $50,000 in a medium size market...that's a lot of money for some mom and pop coffee house that only wants maybe 1 commercial previewing their new location or flavor of grind. The TV stations figured out that besides all the humane societies pimping puppies, and other "non-profits" out there looking for publicity; there was a whole bunch of others(advertisers) wanting to get on those shows who would pay to be on for just a few mins. "How about a nice 5 minute interview and product demo with our fine hostess for say.....$2500? ... Spend $4000 and I will give you a live truck at your location for that product demo." I run this all under a separate budget non-news budget so we can keep the ND happy about the lifestyle show "creeping" into his news barn....keeping news and lifestyle in different columns. As far as ABC goes... Money talks...and Tegna is fairly sure they will make more money this way. It's a very wise move that keeps the money local.
  2. Pour some sweet tea and warm up the Jacuzzi, because Chris Hanson is in town... But the only thing young and bouncy are his checks. https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/to-catch-a-predator-host-chris-hansen-charged-with-bouncing-checks This reminds me of a hooker i knew from Russia... She wouldn't take Czech's either...
  3. So is Gayle King staying at CBS??? The NY Post seems to think so... Gayle King may be sticking with CBS thanks to new
  4. You are darn right (bad pun) KUSI is standing behind the story...and you can be 100% sure they are behind the author of the story. Mike McKinnon III https://www.kusi.com/author/mdmckinnon/ I believe KUSI is "calling out" CNN on behalf of some some angry affiliates. Mike McKinnon III fronted that story for a reason and it's a shot across the bow directed at NewsSource. Or maybe Mike Sr. doesn't care if the kid takes the hit if this all goes sideways.
  5. I'm pretty sure there is an email trail on this...but since KUSI is a CNN subscriber releasing or leaking those emails may just create a whole different (internal) sh*tstorm for both CNN and KUSI. KUSI is not the only newssource affiliate to encounter problems with the national desk and NewsSource. The degradation of established journalistic standards at CNN have contributed to a marked "change of relationships" with many affiliate's, and a few station groups . Does anyone really think Sinclair wants to keep up a relationship with CNN? Do they even have a relationship with CNN anymore? Can we all say "subscriber fees"? Some affiliates pay more than others, and some don't pay at all. The hard left dive that CNN has taken is starting to annoy some affiliates...PAID subscribers who signed-on to CNN when they were a reputable newsgathering operation. It looks like (to this shark) that KUSI has decided to bring that internal rift to the surface. KUSI might have pulled a "gotcha" on CNN, just to expose this issue. We have a few folks here that deal with the CNN desk(s) on a daily basis...and those folks sit in on the conference calls, so it's no secret this has been bubbling under the surface for quit awhile with more than one station in the CNN affiliate system. There are contracts... ...and those contracts will need to be renewed...or maybe not.
  6. And to be fair... KUSI subscribes to CNN. Every other CNN affil in San Diego was asked first and refused....and CNN was welcome to send a crew to the border to ask..."are you for or against the wall"? CNN didn't get the response they wanted so they were welcome to ask all the other local CNN newsource clients in San Diego or Imperial county. Notice we didn't hear if CNN contacted KYMA with the same request. And refusal to follow even the basic guidelines established for and by real professional journalist...such as the use of ANY type of style book including the CNN guidelines is an outrage. So what if CNN ditched AP as a source, does that make it OK to ditch the established guidelines taught in J schools across the country...the same guidelines you are expected to follow when a VJ or a reporter is hired by CNN? AP style books used to be included in your "CNN VJ welcome Package"...and you were required to SIGN and date that you read that book which included the AP style guide as part of that packet. Newsflash! KUSI also dropped all the wire services down to the absolute minimum needed to feed the KUSI website. KUSI also dropped CNS (City News Service) so now KUSI has the most organic news gathering in town. Don't tell people in San Diego that KUSI is "right slanted" because people here would just say.... "That's news to us". The KUSI newsroom is full of people of color, and LGBT folks who are very out and proud (and on the air daily)...so all those cards are out of play. Finally....before I put this thread to bed. CNN could have sent a crew to the border to ask people in this area how they felt...but the CNN National Desk is well aware that that would have been a huge waste of money. It was easier just to call the "locals" and see if they would help CNN with it's twisted idea of journalism. I guess FNC has Enrique Morones locked into an exclusive deal ,because CNN would die to get him on the air with the anti-wall opinion...money talks CNN. I can promise you there are plenty of copies of the AP and Reuters stylebooks in the FOX brainrooms and newsrooms. CNN is dead. When they re-adopt established journalistic guidelines they might be considered a real news organization once again. Source fairly...and always have more than one source...basic stuff. Any CNN alums want to chime in here?
  7. They may have taken away booze, drugs and women (the floozie types) from the newsrooms of America... But they will NEVER take away our wagering! PS Rob.. I lost my shirt on the shutdown, but I got a real good Scotus tip on the line with "Little Jimmy" in Laguna Beach. ...Iet me know if you want in on the action. ( smiley winky face)
  8. Let the healing and rebuilding begin... So who "won"?
  9. Nobody has accused KUSI of any bias...and CNN is not denying this happened. This is just another example of the Suicide of CNN....a once proud network that has even ditched the use and guidelines of the "AP Style Book"..." If anyone here is actually interested in how to be an TRUE unbiased reporter, you may want to get an extra copy and send it to the CNN National Desk. https://www.amazon.com/Associated-Press-Stylebook-2019-Briefing/dp/1541699890?SubscriptionId=AKIAIM5JVG3GDQSEKGFA&tag=legaloutlet.com-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=1541699890
  10. More evidence CNN has completely lost it's way... Note the byline in the KUSI story.. CNN requests KUSI for local view on the border, declines our reporter after finding out wall works January 10, 2019 Mike McKinnon III https://www.kusi.com/cnn-requests-kusi-for-local-view-on-the-border-declines-our-reporter-after-finding-out-wall-works/

Rich Lieberman is reporting that Sylvia Chase has passed away.. http://richliebermanreport.blogspot.com/2019/01/sylvia-chase-dies.html She will be missed.
  12. Now the healing can begin.
  13. It was so nice of Spectrum to wait and not pull the plug on Jan 1st....when KTLA (and a crapload of other Tribune stations) run the Rose Parade Live. May the ghost of Hal Fishman and Stan Chambers haunt the Spectrum 1 newsroom.
  14. Did you see the new tactic Tribune is using against Spectrum??? ...from the FOX 5 San Diego Website... and WJW has a similar vanity phone number... A funny thing happens when you call that number. It ring into a Tribune answering center and give you a little message about how mean and nasty Spectrum is and you should be mad they are depriving you of all that fine FOX 5 fare. But then... "Please Stand-By while we transfer you to a Spectrum operator who is standing bye to take YOUR call...." WTF? Tribune just pulled a "hot transfer / call forwarding" double back slap! I'm sure If Mrs C.Cutter was to wait on the line for that Spectrum operator they would both feel a bit awkward. Spectrum must be digging that little trick, and look at the quick data you (Tribune) acquire just by making that call to that Tribune trap line. They must think you are more inclined to place your angry call thru a station friendly "vanity" phone number...as opposed to calling Spectrum directly...or providing the actual Spectrum customer service phone number. Tricky!
  15. Oh my....Don Lemon is drunk again... And this year Don spotted a former girlfriend in the bar where CNN is broadcasting from in NOLO...too funny. https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2019/1/2/drunk-don-lemon-mistakes-reporter-for-old-college-girlfriend Give Don another drink and another bump before he starts getting goo-goo eyed for Brooke.. But wait! Over on FOX News Channel a nice Hispanic woman was being interviewed by the trusty reporter and it went something like this... Reporter: "How do you want to start off the new year Miss???" Lady: "With a loan"... Well I guess our reporter didn't understand what she really said and proceeded to gently rib her for the statement.... " A loan....." ha ha ha.....Toss back to Anchor Kennedy... "Brian" Kennedy interrupted... " I think she said she wanted a lung....not a loan". (Oh shit here we go) It was quickly downhill from there. Toss it back to Tyrus...and pray.
  16. Just in time for the end of the year... KUSI is now on Roku! Now everyone can enjoy the old classic set, those favorite Grandpa and Grandma anchors...and a few pretty "nieces". And who can forget that smell of Old Spice during every anchor toss. You will also get to see Mark Mathis the twitter beat down king. Plus.... The ghost of John Coleman...and his extended 50 year climate change forecast. Happy News Year from the McKinnons.
  17. Some smart kid in Cleveland is gonna pick up some cheap antennas...and make a killing cutting peoples cords. Sure beats mowing lawns.
  18. Good luck getting the old captain to pass a background check and drug test. And that Mr Green Jeans was last spotted "farming" in Humbolt county, California. I bet if you let the captain have his cigars between cartoons.....
  19. It was all those emails from folks saying "I don't care anymore about your problems"... Plus... I have an antenna....so "eff-em".
  20. cna247 said... Eaty, I’m not offended, just pointing out that we can speak for ourselves. =================== You are right... He should have included a disclaimer that said you are easily offended, and because of YOUR grumpiness you had "opted-out" of the nice thoughts department. Try the higher power first.
  21. It was a nice gesture full of good intention. You get offended too easy... Go sniff some pretty flowers and turn-off the cable tv politics....try a nice hot bath...or a drive thru the country on this nice fall day. Or try some K-Pop for about 20mins a day...it's fun, and free of politics...and you don't even have to understand Korean to enjoy it. Or you might want to connect with " a higher power". Chillax!
  22. KGTV updated it's site earlier this week also... www.kgtv.com
  23. Bridges??? "We don't need to show you no stinking bridges!"
  24. Please don't take this stuff too seriously...it's only TV News. Don't allow the news to consume you, because it will if YOU allow it to.

Do not consume news around small children, or those with diminished capacity.

  25. There used to be 4 unwritten rules in most newsrooms... You didn't cover bomb threats. You didn't cover suicides. No needles going into arms... ..and no nipples...translated in most newsrooms as the "no tits on TV" rule. There were other regional 'rules" and accepted practices that encouraged responsible reporting, unlike this crap now days where a station will just report anything that farts. My new favorite is a California Classic... "Suspicious Package Found "... Wonderful! Block off the street, evacuate the block, lock down the schools....BREAKING NEWS Whoop Whoop! While we get the bomb squad to neutralize some homeless guys stuff....sometimes they even use a water canon to blow the stuff up. Only in California...Oh the humanity.
