There is already a Nexstar capital bureau for Texas, based out of KXAN/Austin. It has been in operation for about 2 years and was pitched as one of the “benefits” of the Media General/LIN merger.

I'm surprised Nexstar hasn't done capital bureaus in more ex-MG/LIN state capital cities than where they've done. Hopefully that'll change with the Tribune deal

I’m gonna continue updating those possibly, but I’m not doing new areas anymore.

KXTV began its longtime “News 10” logo under Belo, it seems (or did the KXTV-KVUE swap occur before 1999???)

That took place toward the tail end of the Belo era. The KXTV/KVUE swap did in fact, took place about a year later in 1999.

Variety posted a profile on Nexstar and interviewed Perry Sook on Friday.

Another interesting tidbit out of all of this is that Nexstar plans to use stations in State Capitals for Political coverage in that particular state but the only concern about that is Nexstar is not in every single city that's a State Capital (For example, Nexstar isn't in Columbia-Jefferson City so, therefore, all of the Missouri stations Nexstar owns has to get creative with the way they cover Politics in Missouri)

Contracts running out and Sinclair-related issues perhaps?

I think the issues going on in Hunt Valley has to do with all of that, No one wants to work for a Sinclair-owned station and I really can't blame them for leaving the Sinclair stations while they still have a chance to do so

KTUL meteorologist Clint Boone has jumped ship to KJRH, joining former colleague Mike Collier.

What is going on with KTUL's weather staff? It seems like ever since Jennifer Zeppelin left Channel 8, they've lost meteorologists left and right and most of which have gone over to KJRH

And then look who is the main one retweeting about Chris Bradley.  Could this shit be any more fucked up than it is? Thank God he was at WBNS when this happened, or Sinclair probably would have fired him on the day of his funeral. I apologize if this offends anyone but someone has to point out the hypocrisy here. I can't be the only one who sees this.

    Hypocrisy much?

It doesn't help Tribune that they're a public company and they could be seen as breaching their fiduciary duty to refuse the highest bid...

True but that still doesn't change the fact that if Tribune knew the regulatory risks when they merged with Sinclair, they would've bypassed Sinclair at all costs (even if it meant being brought to court over breaching their fiduciary duty)

A shareholder has filed the first lawsuit over the failed Tribune deal.

Wouldn't be surprised of more followed suit.

I've said it since Tribune filed their lawsuit against Sinclair, this is the beginning of the end for Sinclair as more media mergers and as we saw with Cordillera, other media companies like Cox that are looking for buyers will say No to Sinclair as many times as possible no matter how much Sinclair offers them.

Like @channel2 said in the Speculatron board, smart companies like Cordillera will avoid Sinclair at all costs because they cannot entrust Sinclair to make the necessary divestitures where needed. Only companies like Tribune will make a fool of themselves and be faced with months of regulatory delays and (eventually) the merger being sent by the FCC to an ALJ and resulting in a termination of the deal.

You also forgot to mention their tweets which said "We also offer our stations reporting from the Beltway and beyond that are not partisan or bias in any way." And "we are committed to fair, unbiased journalism".

You would think their PR department would have something more believable by now.

    https://mobile.twitter.com/WeAreSinclair/status/1067926594818199552

But of course, this is Sinclair were talking about here and do they make ANYTHING close to believable? No they don't

Thanks for the reminder to re-up my "ignore" list.

I had cna ignored on the old TVNT site before the latest upgrade, now it looks like I'm going to have to hit it again. Besides that cna is just a troll and nothing else

Sinclair has become a four-letter word in professional journalism. I think they are having trouble filling a lot of jobs due to lack of interest. I don't think ANYONE believes them...this is pure damage control and nothing else. Probably getting smackdowns from Cordillera, and presumably Cox, are hurting their feelings as well.

You can't with these people. At first this was a soap opera, then this veered into Telenovela territory....and then sitcom territory......and now I think we've reached animated sitcom about a dumbass idiot territory

The day that the FCC forces Sinclair to sell the stations or face losing its license to broadcast will be the day in which EVERYONE on TVNT will rejoice! (On top of that the ALJ has been sitting on the Sinclair misconduct case doing nothing about it THREE months after Tribune terminated deal tells me that Sinclair doesn't plan on, nor do they care to resolve those misrepresentation issues)

EDIT: I forgot that the ACA is wanting the FCC to look at Sinclair's license early, I think there's a very good possibility of that happening.

To piggyback on that, did Sinclair ever mandate a standard graphics switching system for their stations? I remember seeing that the lack of one was partially the reason why the Glass/Curves look had such an uneven and prolonged rollout.

This is what happens when a company like Sinclair gets too big for its bridges. They can't even roll out a graphics package correctly

  14. Guess management felt Wheeler was a better fit for afternoons.

So basically all WFAA did was groomed Wheeler to do afternoon newscasts instead of succeeding John McCaa on the evening newscasts. Alrighty then, that was their choice

  15. It's bad enough when stations like KYTX blow out anyone locally-known to the viewers and replace them with no-names/talking-heads (which already does them no favors in the ratings game compared to longtime top-banana KLTV), but then let's add something like mum craftiness and chili ingredient debates, oh and an almost-laughable seat-of-the-pants high school football wrap-up show on Friday nights... IMO, Tegna hasn't exactly *added* value to their investment. And as for WFAA (another IMO), if Mike Shapiro (longtime past VP/GM) or Marty Haag (longtime past ND) could see what's up on Young Street now, they'd be spinning in their graves.

Also Chip Moody would be rolling over in his grave seeing what TEGNA has done to the Spirit of Texas (WFAA)
