1. Here's a small TV note: Lilly/SJL's WICU and WSEE in Erie, PA since having produced a joint newscast have also began ID'ing on-air both as simply "WICU" and "WSEE" with no channel number, at least like at the end of syndicated promos and common stuff.

So are they consolidating two newscasts into one or what exactly are they doing?

  2. I wouldn’t mind seeing Fox get a Midwestern cluster. WFLD/WPWR in Chicago — WXIN in Indianapolis — WJW in Cleveland and WXIX in Cincinnati (which covers Indiana/Ohio/KY)

If Gray (post-Raycom) ultimately decides to sell WXIX, don't be surprised if WVUE (another NFL market Fox does not have) was to be included in the deal.

  3. I think management at any station see the entertainment value he brings to the table. He's like the current President. He's a train wreck to watch, but the ratings are solid. That my take.

In other words, as long as the ratings are sky high, it doesn't matter how much controversy comes up, that person will still be on the job AND will still appear on TV, apps, etc.

  4. Or an employer who cares less than others do about what they post...

Most the on air talent at KUSI has a few DUI's or other felonies.

Most have done stints in Juvie or San Quentin....Leavenworth...Folsom.

Some of the anchors reportedly have tattoos....

One female anchor carries a switchblade and brass knuckles.

The thing about this is if you and I made a controversial post on Social Media and our boss at work sees that, we would get fired. So the fact that the "General Manager" of KUSI hasn't fired his/her own "reporters" that have either made a controversial post on Social Media and/or have gotten themselves in trouble with the law speaks volumes that this so-called General Manager of KUSI does NOT care about establishing rules that say that your Social Media posts (personal page, professional page) cannot be controversial and if you get arrested and you're working for us (the station) then you will be terminated.

But then again this is California we're talking about here and they will do whatever it takes to retain their employers

  5. Mark Mathis has been un-suspended from KUSI.

He is once again free to wander the building.

He also bought a nice new tie.

    https://www.kusi.com/marks-weather-10-19-18-2/

So in other words we have seen reporters losing their jobs over posts made on Social Media yet this Mark Mathis guy only gets a "slap on the wrist" and is STILL employed at KUSI? I see a double standard to this issue here

  6. Here’s a change for 2018 that really bothers me. For some reason on their NASCAR Xfinity Series coverage this year NBC decided that all cars will be the same color (black/red) on the graphics and leaderboard. To me this comes off as lazy and frankly unacceptable for it to be 2018 (this hasn’t been a normal thing on NASCAR telecasts since 2006). Here’s a comparison of last year and this year.

They did the same thing from 2001-06 when it was known as the Busch series, it's just plain laziness that's all there is to it

  7. Well that didn’t last long. Wonder if he’s itching for a comeback on Denver7.

The question would be does KMGH want to bring Mike Landess back? Because I'm sure Landess would like to return to KMGH

  8. KLAS-TV Las Vegas has added a half-hour newscast at 3:00 p.m. this past Wednesday. No surprise considering that Las Vegas NOW (now just a half-hour at 3:30 p.m.) has suffered from poor ratings and technical problems from the start.

Its now the third in the market with KVVU still being all alone at 4:00 p.m.

And that Peter Van Zelt guy (or however you spell his last name) will troll on your site saying how bad it is for stations to add newscasts and how stations "would" go belly up if the newscast expansions don't stop or whatever the heck he says on your site

  9. The noon newscast actually continued through the station's first ten years under Hearst. KOCO dropped it in January 2008, when it expanded its 5:00 p.m. newscast to Saturdays and its weekend morning newscasts to Sundays.

I think sooner rather than later KOCO will have to launch a 4p newscast (they don't necessarily need a midday newscast as they already have a 9a newscast so all they would need to do is shift the 9a to 11a if they were to get back into the midday newscast and shift Access Live to 9a)

But I think as long as they have the Dr. Oz/Steve/Ellen block, KOCO will never get into the 4p news game (much like KOKH will never add any early evening/late afternoon newscasts as long as Judy is still doing Judge Judy and The Big Bang Theory does well in the 6/6:30p slots)

  10. Interesting how ESPN's graphics were standardized across all its properties - now each one (SportsCenter, MLB, NBA, CFB, CBB, NFL) has a unique package.

Late reply but, even ABC is starting to have some of their own elements in their sports telecasts (i.e ABC's name is on the Copyright stamp instead of ESPN). Who knows maybe Disney has finally realized that placing the ESPN branding on ABC was a mistake

  11. Okay. Follow-up. Someone uploaded this. This is from KETV. They're also will be airing GMA Day at 11am/CT on Monday.

I know I said earlier it was doubtful, but now I wouldn't be all that surprise if the network supply an earlier 12pm/ET feed for these stations (WBRZ & sister station KRGV; along with KETV). And should that be the case, this would be the first time since Port Charles that the network supplied an earlier feed for one of their daytime shows.

I doubt if ABC does it, this Television season because if they did then there's no way WFAA moves their 12pm newscast to 11am

  12. I liked The 'Lights as well. Sports Dash was also a good show as well even though David Briggs was terrible as an anchor. If they bright that back with better talent and promotion it would be successful.

If NBC were smart and brought back "The Lights" they would make it a challenger to CBS Sports HQ and that would be an instant for viewers like me who would rather see highlights on their phones than on TV and wait until they show highlights of their favorite sports or their favorite teams

  13. Congrats KJRH. You've now realized why your in last place in Tulsa and frankly, maybe in all of Oklahoma (at least by putting OKC and Tulsa together).

And now KJRH feels what KOKI felt before Cox took over and things like this are NOT going to make your viewers happy AND it'll cause viewers to find new stations to get their news

  14. Strong storms knocked KLKN in Lincoln off the air for several hours last night. The transmitter was eventually able to broadcast late last night before being knocked off air again sometime around 7 this morning. They're back up now.

That was the same storms that also postponed the Akron-Nebraska Football game as well, have they announced when they're going to play that game?

  15. In response to why the ABC logo is blackened in the ticker, it's a network thing. Promos for the shows set to come around in the fall have the blackened logo as well, so unless the news department doesn't follow suit, the color-modded logo is dead.

I think ABC is phasing out having the color-coded logos in favor of just the standard black logo, last time I checked earlier today while I was watching the Washington-Auburn game, I think ABC is only used the red-colored version of the logo for certain promos (but that's just my educated guess)

  16. I think CBS complained because just now, they realize the second hour of CBS-TM airs on a MyNetworkTV affiliate, not a CBS affiliate. This is why they wanted to get rid of that 7am local news hour so they can air it in pattern from 7-9am.

This is also why they complained to WWL about it since CBS-TM aired on another MyNetworkTV affiliate, WUPL (this time though, in its entirety).

So, in other words, CBS doesn't like CBS TM airing on a junior partner of a duopoly partner (unless it's the Saturday edition of CBS TM) right?

  17. I’m sure they’ll continue to dominate the airwaves in Tulsa for years to come. A single newscast time change won’t affect that at all.

Then again, KOTV still clears all of CTM, just from 8-10am. Ditto for WFMY. And CBS hasn’t complained about either station, so who knows.

Well CBS complained about KUTV not airing CBS TM in pattern so it would not surprise me if CBS have done the same about KOTV and WFMY

  18. KOTV has already moved their 8am hour to their sister station Tulsa CW.

Yeah but, I'm afraid to say that CBS will do the same to KOTV that they did to KUTV (and then watch as viewers abandon KOTV for KOKI)

Even though KOTV has dominated TV News in Tulsa for 17 years but, all it'll take for that dominance to end is by CBS forcing KOTV to air CBS This Morning in pattern

  19. Well it looks like that ESPN Insider is merging with ESPN+ according to a Reddit user who is subscribed to ESPN Insider in the MLS subreddit.

And here's an article from Variety about it as well. https://variety.com/2018/digital/news/espn-insider-switched-to-espn-plus-streaming-1202911642/

That makes sense, now if they can merge WatchESPN with ESPN+, then I would gladly sign up for the streaming service

  20. The big problem with subchannel news is three things; people who shun you because you aren't airing what's on nationally at that time (probably one reason Hearst can't make their MeTV shows work), lack of promotion, and horrid advertising. WITI couldn't sell an ad to save its life on Antenna TV when they had to shift the regular shows there during the World Cup, so it was a continuous loop of PSAs and the occasional national class action ad. And most of the time whenever you try to market a network the way it wants to be (Justice Network wants you to air local pieces, the long-dead TheCoolTV wants local artists to submit videos), nobody cares. They just see it as another place to watch reruns of a certain genre or don't even think of it as an OTA subchannel, especially on cable.

Now you wonder why Hearst has been buying up the duopoly bait stations as of late

  21. In other news, we're getting a new ticker soon. Despite its looks, it uses the same amount of screen space as the classic one. Which means TSN will still be able to cover it up with the even older red glossy one they're still using.

    newbottom1-1024x578.jpg

Have they announced when the new ticker will make its official, permanent debut? I know it'll be before the start of the Football season but, what specific date have they set for that debut?

  22. KJRH has made some changes to its' daytime schedule.

The station's midday newscast has moved from 11am to noon, joining KOTV and KOKI at that timeslot. 'Days of Our Lives' has moved from noon to 1pm, replacing the 4th hour of 'Today', which has taken over the 11am slot.

This leaves KTUL as Tulsa's only 11am newscast

  23. ^^^ Another Hearst station is going midday. WISN 12 is bringing back its midday broadcast.

On September 10, WISN will launch an hourly-11am newscast. That would lead up to the new GMA's third hour program at 12pm.

I remember years ago when WISN had a noon broadcast, when did they drop it?

I would not be surprised if other Hearst stations affiliated with ABC do the same (KMBC, KETV, KHBS/KHOG and KOAT come to mind, while KOCO could simply just slide over the 9am newscast to 11am)
