Okay... getting off-topic with WKYC's new logo hatred. I feel that way too but I'm going back on-topic.

Agreed. Somebody needs to split the discussion about WKYC's new logo into it's own thread because this discussion has covered at least a page to almost a page and a half of this thread.

Also, if I can find a source regarding about Wichita that you teased recently on the blog, I'll send that to you.

  2. I know this hasn't been posted anywhere else (I know @TheRolyPoly teased this on his blog as well) but it looks like KWCH is launching both a 10am AND an 11am newscast on their sister station KSCW starting this upcoming Monday (9/16) I've only seen it on my TV Guide app but Titan TV and others haven't updated it as of yet.

More details will be made available as they come so stay tuned....

Well, TVGuide.com listings for Shreveport showcases Tamron Hall at 8am, alongside with OnTVTonight and TV Passport.

Weird. Something smells and I don't like it. Just saying.

Checked the schedule -- shows the 9am news hour, but not 8am.

It probably hasn't been updated elsewhere yet but as @ColtFromGulfcoast said it was on the TV Guide grid so KTBS/KPXJ must've entered their 8am newscast into the system without telling us anything about it.

Anyway, it was about time that KPXJ's morning newscast expanded to 2 hours.

We have a brand new carriage dispute. And this is a big one.

    AT&T/DirecTV and Disney/ABC

That's not just the eight ABC O&Os, but all of the Disney & ESPN networks as well.

Now they didn't mention when they'll probably pull the networks off of the AT&T/DirecTV platforms.

KGO posted this message about the dispute on its Facebook wall.

I would like to know this, what is it about AT&T (DIRECTV) getting involved with these carriage disputes? These disputes aren't happening by accident, there has got to be a reason why we've been so many carriage disputes involving (and if I were a betting man I say the majority of those that we've seen this year are involving AT&T/DIRECTV)

Adults 25-54 is the most important to the sales department, because it helps them with advertising rates.  People in that age range have the most disposable income.  Nevertheless, winning anything in the July book is about as meaningful as winning a preseason NFL game.

While that statement may be true however the way I look at it, all of the stuff going on at WBNS (including what happened today with Mike Davis) is starting to catch up to 10TV. Don't be surprised if WSYX overtakes 10TV's ratings spot in additional time slots moving forward.

Spectrum is dumping the Fox College Sports networks in mid-October, and FIOS has also removed them, which sounds like an immediate Sinclair decision. Probably figure on some kind of "Stadium/Diamond/Marquee Extra" service starting up in the next few months so that the games that usually would air there live will be transferred onto there, or for Stadium to eventually return some games to SBG stations as they did in the ASN days.

It also looks like the FSN's are still carrying the lower-tier Big 12 games. I'm kind of thinking at least until May outside of graphical changes, the channels will still be carrying Fox's properties until the offseason where a long-term agreement can be made to offload them to other networks or the Fox Sports app gets a lot more content in the meantime.

Also there are several schools that still have contracts with FSN that Sinclair inherited from Fox and Disney (the Oklahoma Sooners is among that group) so it would be interesting to see how Sinclair handles that

I'm watching the Bengals/Colts game on WSYX. I was curious who the originating station was since there are no station logos on the broadcast so I looked it up. I just thought it was amusing that 4 of the 6 stations carrying the game are Sinclair stations. (The other two stations are Block.)

PRESEASON WEEK 4: COLTS AT BENGALS | THURSDAY, AUG. 29 AT 7 P.M.
    TV Affiliates and Information

    Cincinnati: WKRC (CBS Channel 12)
    Dayton: WKEF (ABC Channel 22)
    Columbus: WSYX (ABC Channel 6)
    Lima: WLIO (FOX Channel 8.2)
    Lexington: WDKY (FOX Channel 56)
    Louisville: WDRB (FOX Channel 41)

It wouldn't surprise me if some of the Fox Regional Sports Networks that Sinc;lair recently bought eventually get involved with the production of NFL preseason telecasts similar to how NBC Sports Washington is involved in producing Redskins preseason telecasts with WRC (i.e Fox Sports Ohio taking over some production responsibilities of the Bengals preseason telecasts from WKRC)

Maybe we see those RSNs go back to their Pre-Fox/Sportschannel names like Sunshine Network, HSE, SportsSouth, PASS, etc.

Sunshine Network branding returning to replace Fox Sports Sun isn't out of the realm of possibility here, I think we might see Sinclair use some unique branding like perhapse HSE, and PASS

Right now what Sinclair is doing with the rebranding of the FSNs is right now in secret they probably won't tell us much of anything untile new name(s) are announced and we'll have a better idea of what exactly Sinclair will rebrand the RSNs to.

Right now it's just speculation at this point

Although I might add that Sinclair did file a trademark application for use of the "Diamond Sports Network" branding. I can't get the image of the trademark up for y'all to see at the moment but what I can tell you it was filled back in May about 2 weeks after Sinclair announced the acquisition of the RSNs

Didn't the RSNs handle the MLB "Game of the Week" broadcasts for Fox and FS1? Would that continue?

    48 minutes ago, elfuego35 said:

    It depended.

Most of the time, FS1/Fox produced the telecasts. However, if Fox had more than 3 games to produce, and if one of the two teams on the FS1 game was on an FSN station, then they simulcasted the FSN feed over FS1.

Not to be confused with Fox hiring a local broadcast team to call a game to be produced by Fox.

In this instance FS1 is using the Cardinals Fox Sports Midwest broadcast team for the Rockies/Cardinals game tonight (P.S. Go Cardinals)

The fact that the RSNs are STILL integrated into Fox Sports that it'll take awhile for Sinclair to integrate the RSNs into Stadium and the local stations (if they're co-owned with the local stations)

  11. 41 minutes ago, Spring Rubber said:

Do they have any obligation to keep their broadcasts integrated with FS1 for a period of time? I know that this summer under Disney ownership, they still had to integrate select Saturday MLB broadcasts with FS1 and also advertise FS1 programming.

Not really because I noticed that FSN as recent as this week stop promoting the FS1 shows such as Undisputed and Speak For Yourself.

I think there was some form of a transitional agreement between Fox and Disney when the DOJ ordered Disney to sell the FSNs where FSN would continue to promote the FS1 shows for a certain period of time until the sale was completed, and now that the sale has been signed, sealed, and delivered the FSNs are no longer obligated to continue to promote shows or sporting events seen on Fox, FS1, and FS2.

Then look for and quote the exact text that says so.

I looked earlier through Section 3.09 earlier, couldn't find it. It may have been removed so that no one could find out exactly how long Sinclair has to keep the Fox Sports name or it's in there I may have overlooked it.

EDIT: I found an article from WKYC as provided here https://www.wkyc.com/article/entertainment/television/sinclair-broadcast-group-purchases-fox-regional-sports-networks-including-sportstime-ohio-fox-sports-ohio/95-9a377f0e-ed08-4b50-a2b0-a96cd1221a3d here's what part of that article says

As the Fox Sports branding will surely be going by the wayside, the new names for the RSNs or when such a re-brand will take place are still unknown at this time. Many feel it could involve the name "Diamond," although Sinclair is also launching an all-Chicago Cubs regional network next year that will be called Marquee Sports Network.

There is absolutely nothing in either of those clauses that talks about a requirement to retain the Fox Sports name, nor a duration of three years.

It has to be in one of the sections where it talks about the licensing then but it's in there somewhere unless it got redacted at some point

  14. 3 minutes ago, LoadStar said:

Ok, we apparently talking in circles here. Let me take one more attempt to clarify.

What specific part or parts of section 3.09 caused you to conclude that they "will have to use the Fox Sports name" for three years?

Section 3.09(a) it might be Section 3.09(b) but all I can tell you is that it's in Section 3.09 that I quoted from earlier

  15. 19 minutes ago, LoadStar said:

No, I mean I don’t get how you came to the conclusion you did from the section you quoted. What in that section suggests that they “will have to use the Fox Sports name” for three years?

Section 3.09, link is in the post above Spring Rubber's post

Sinclair Closes Purchase of Fox Regional Sports Networks From Disney

Does anyone have a link to the actual purchase agreement, or any details? I'm curious how long the Fox Sports brand licensing agreement will last.

Here is the purchase agreement from Sinclair's SEC filing. The licensing agreement was redacted from the filing.

I don't know if this answers your question or not but this is from Section 3.09.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but, it looks as if that Sinclair will have to use the Fox Sports name on the RSNs for at least 3 years

Either way, if Apollo prevails in getting either or BOTH Meredith and Tegna, it's gonna be a mess, ESPECIALLY in Atlanta.

With Meredith perhaps becoming a buyer, I think Tegna is more likely for Apollo

Ok I’ll bite... what about in Oklahoma? Does the demographic shift peter out as you move north in  Texas to the point that it’s not much of a factor once you cross state lines?

Once you cross the Red River it becomes more of a Native American demographic than anything else because Oklahoma before it joined the Union in 1907 as the 46th State it was known as Indian Territory.

Most of the Hispanic population in our state is on the South side of Oklahoma City along the I-240 corridor otherwise, once you go out of the major cities in Oklahoma, the Hispanic population drops off quite a bit

It’s Texas... why wouldn’t the Latino population be growing? I don’t quite get why DFW would be a surprise?

When you think of Texas you only think of a few major cities that are close to the Mexican border (i.e. El Paso, San Antonio, etc.) as having the higher latino population whereas places like Dallas it wasn't really until a few years ago if not, a little bit futher back than that, we noticed an uptick in terms of population. Also this is a market where for DECADES it was dominated by WFAA and KDFW, the Spanish language stations in the area didn't really become a factor until DFW experienced the increase in Latinos moving to the area

  21. 6 hours ago, FiveNews said:

The 4 English stations didn't do anything wrong. Telemundo's #1 status just shows that the demographics in DFW and other markets are shifting. Hispanics are the dominant demographic and it is showing in markets across the country....Miami, NYC, LA, Houston, Dallas, etc etc.

That answers my question, I knew that the other major markets that you mentioned the latino population is growing but DFW? I might call this a HUGE win for Telemundo and it probably wouldn't surprise me if Telemundo wins more markets as the latino population groiws and major Spanish language networks like Telemundo and Univision are going to benefit from this increase
