  1. September 1st, 1969: the very first edition of Rede Globo's Jornal Nacional went to the air. Here's an excerpt of its 10th anniversary in 1979, with Cid Moreira anchoring. He presented the program for 27 years (1969 to 1996). Piero Badaloni anchors the main evening edition of Rai 1's Telegiornale in April 1992. For a short while, it wasn't called TG1. A closer of TF1's Sunday evening news with Claire Chazal in 1997. A full edition of Telefe's late night newscast from March 2005, with Rodolfo Barili and Cristina Perez. The closer is at the 21:12 mark (includes a segment called Retratos, with snapshots of the day's most important stories; it was the staple of the program for 14 years)
  2. A segment of the old Jornal Bandeirantes from July 1980, with a report on the closure of TV Tupi (South America's first TV station). Ferreira Martins and Ronaldo Rosas anchored the program. TSR's opener of the evening edition of Le Journal in 2011. Rai Uno's abbreviated lunchtime edition of TG1 from Sunday, April 24, 2005, presented by Manuela Lucchini.
  3. A tour of Perth station TVW7 in 1982, hosted by local personality Peter Dean. It's interesting to see that the tapes and films used to broadcast programs and movies were flown from the eastern states (NSW and VIC) to WA. Perth was a 3-station market at the time (the others were ABW2 and STW9). It didn't get new channels until later in the decade, with the launch of SBS and NEW10.
  4. Boris Casoy recaps the day's headlines on SBT's national newscast TJ Brasil just before the end of the program (June 27, 1997) Less than 20 days later (on July 15), Boris became anchor of rival network Rede Record's main newscast, presenting it until 2005. Adelaide's ADS10 intro of Ten News from September 1988: Intro, headlines and closer of the afternoon edition of Teleberri in 2017, presented by Africa Baeta.
  5. I think that one of the reasons behind this crisis is the lack of advertisement (RTVE removed them in 2010). There are other public broadcasters around the world that survived without placing ads throughout their schedules, such as ABC in Australia.
  6. New logo and set for Rede Globo's morning news program Bom Dia Brasil, that premiered today!
  7. A long promo of Telemundo 12 from 1995, featuring former news anchor Neber Araujo (who used to double as news director during most of his run there: 1985-2002). There are many shots of the newsroom and the news team and the technology looked extremely old for the time being (e.g. the screens in the control room or the large microphones at the anchordesk). Neber was so lucky that he used to have a new laptop next to him when he presented the news. The news division was slightly revamped in the same year, airing bizarre promos like these, produced by Impetu (an advertising company). That's when the ABC News/(National) Nine News globe appeared for the first time. There's even a backstage report, explaining how the campaign was produced. Finally, a closer of the program in June 2014, one year before the globe was removed. The set remained unchanged (with some minor exceptions) from 1999 until October 2015.
  8. July 1969: Canal 13 sent its main anchor Mónica Cahen D'Anvers to Cape Canaveral to report on the launch of the Apollo 11. Here's some footage from days before lift-off. Weather forecast and closer of the midday edition of Telemundo in July 2003, anchored by Renee Lafitte and Pablo Rodriguez. That cloud background with the spinning globe at the end is pretty magnetic! BBC's News West late bulletin (during the Nine O'Clock News) from March 1998, with Susan Osman.
  9. First 2 minutes of the new image of Telemundo, Teledoce's news service relaunched exactly one month ago. The program has a new logo, new music and new set with giant screens; also, it adopted a "conversational" style to report the news stories. A long, boring late night news update from ATC in the early hours of March 6, 1993. A closer of the lunchtime edition of TVE1's Telediario in May 1974.
  10. This is not about TV: it's about radio, but I think you can help me. These are two bumpers used by Argentine radio station Mitre (AM 790) on its gossip segment that airs twice a day (weekdays at 7am and 4:30pm). I'm not sure if it's production music or not.
  11. VOTE FOR SEVEN! A pretty interesting campaign for Seven's election coverage on Saturday, November 24, 2007, led by the Sunrise team of Kochie and Mel, promising that it would be the funniest election broadcast on TV. Actually, Seven finished in 2nd place, while the ABC had the most-watched broadcast that night. This video also includes excerpts of Weekend Sunrise from the early hours of election day. A short promo of Antena 3's relaunched news service in September 1998, when journalist Ernesto Saenz de Buruaga (formerly of TVE) was hired to be the news director (and anchor of the evening program) and introduced several changes, such as new presenters (like Matias Prats and Susanna Griso, who also came from TVE as well) and new graphics and music theme, similar to the one used by TVE's Telediario at the time.
  12. First 3 minutes of an edition of Informativos Telecinco in September 2005, on the day they premiered new graphics, music and set. Telecinco's newscasts have been criticised for many years for being tabloid and sensational, and this is no exception! 42 minutes of BBC News 24 in September 1998 (from an overnight simulcast on BBC One)
  13. A 5-minute promo of Central in April 1998, just days after dropping the longtime "cake" logo to make way for a simpler logo, similar to its old counterpart Carlton, which owned the station since 1994.
  14. Argentina: former sportscaster Sergio Gendler died today at the age of 53, after losing his battle with cancer. Here is a tribute from his former colleagues at Canal 13/TN, where he worked for 21 years between 1993 and 2014. He moved to Fox Sports in 2015, where he presented weekday editions of Central Fox. Santo Biasatti, who worked with him for many years at Telenoche's anchordesk, cried while announcing his death on Crónica TV's morning show.
  15. Excerpts of the BBC's coverage of the 1996 American elections, presented by David Dimbleby from Lafayette Centre in Washington DC. He's also joined by Peter Snow.
  16. Excerpt of the very first edition of Yorkshire TV's Good Morning Calendar in March 1977, presented by legendary ATV/Central newsreader Bob Warman, who worked at YTV for a while in the late 1970s, before returning to the Midlands. RTP1's intro of Telejornal from May 2008, with José Alberto Carvalho: GTV9's National Nine News with Brian Naylor from October 1989:
  17. Headlines and intro of BBC's early evening news in 2007 with Natasha Kaplinsky and George Alagiah. The top story was the bizarre Blue Peter phone-in scandal.
  18. Highlights of the final day of LWT (London Weekend Television) on October 27, 2002. Includes old slides, music and a clock, plus appearances from announcers Trish Bertram and Glenn Thompsett.
  19. Intro and promo of Platea Vip, a weekly movie series that aired on Canal 9 in the late 1990s. The intro was recorded in November 1998, while the promo presents the lineup of the movies shown a couple of months earlier, between May 26 and June 30, 1998.
  20. For those of you who like to stay up late and watch TV, 8 minutes of Meridian's public access show Freescreen from January 1998:
  21. An old Central News morning cut-in during GMTV, presented by Yvonne Gaskill in May 2008. She's not Caroline Rhea! Full weather forecast and closer of the midday edition of Telefe Noticias in December 2005. If you wanna skip the report that airs before the closer, go to the 4:17 minute mark. CBC News' Sunday Report with Ian Hanomansing on Christmas Eve, 1989:
  22. Two idents of Scottish Television from the early 2000s (in high quality!), showing the beauty of Scotland's landscapes. The music was composed by Savalas Studio. A Tuesday night lineup promo and station ID from the Nine Network in 1994.
  23. Walter Cronkite says goodbye to NBC colleague Chet Huntley in July 1970. The video also includes Huntley's farewell message and the traditional sign-off from both Huntley and David Brinkley, followed by the credits with Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.
  24. We should add KCBS (another O&O) to the list: in 1994 the station canceled its hour-long 6 a.m. newscast and replaced it with a back-to-back airing of the CBS Morning News. The morning show was reinstated on August 12, 1996, beginning at 5:30am.
  25. A WCAU morning cut-in from 1991, anchored by John Blunt. Like then-sister station WBBM, WCAU didn't have a morning newscast at the time and aired the CBS Morning News back-to-back from 6 to 7am. When it switched affiliations in September 1995 and became an NBC O&O, launched a 90-minute morning show with a start time of 5:30am and expanded the noon news to a full hour.
