Kenneth Kissel replied to Georgie56's topic in The Weather Lab
And I thought "First Alert Weather" was bad. This is laughable. -
The Ever-Evolving Gray Graphics Situation...Thread
Kenneth Kissel replied to NEOMatrix's topic in Graphics
I wonder when WOIO will switch to the new look. they still have the urgent look with First, Fair, Everywhere since 2019. -

I'm surprised as well. Good luck continuing to be in 3rd place CBS as I continue to watch David Muir and Lester Holt.
-
I have returned to making Videos with a new Youtube Channel and working out the issues with the last channel. The First News open I uploaded was Today's WTOV 5 PM Open.
-
I actually expanded on a possible sale of WPGH/WPNT in the thread so I think it is warranted.

I have this announcement it's own topic already. https://forums.tvnewstalk.net/topic/18770-sinclairs-wpgh-adds-a-630-pm-newscast-from-coxs-wpxi/

Fox isn't giving up their O&O networks. The only broadcast network that has a real chance that could happen is CBS/Paramount for reasons discussed on this website before in other threads.

Standard General to acquire Tegna for $8.6 Billion
Kenneth Kissel replied to dman748's topic in General TV
I'm surprised there wasn't more in addition to this. There are still conflicts in Atlanta, Jacksonville, Charlotte, Seattle, and others.- 433 replies

As someone who was born and raised in Hampton Roads for 21 years (1990 -2011) I was mostly a WVEC-TV watcher with most of my intrest as a child was into weather and Jeff Lawson but when I was 9 (1999) I began to also start following sports and was always amazed when I started switching to WAVY-TV and Mr. Bruce Rader. I always enjoyed the way he looks at sports and it carried with me when I moved to Pittsburgh in 2011 and began to work in the Pittsburgh Sports scene. Bob Pompeani (KDKA-TV) has always reminded me of my childhood when I began to care about sports as a career but I owe my gratitude to Bruce Rader for gaining my intrest as a kid and always providing the best sports coverage in Hampton Roads for 45 years. If it wasn't for Bruce, I don't know if I would be working in sports to this day.

Viacom is dead, long live Paramount...
Kenneth Kissel replied to TheOneManHerd's topic in Corporate Chat
If this doesn't happen. Maybe a UPN comeback? -
There are a LOT of places in the Northern Portion of West Virginia (Wheeling and Morgantown) Along with Steubenville Ohio that can also get the Pittsburgh PA locals OTA as well. If WTRF/WBOY wants to compete. They have to not only look at WTOV and WDTV but also KDKA-TV, WTAE, and WPXI. WTRF and WBOY has a great chance to take over their markets with this revamp if Nexstar does it right because both WTOV and WDTV haven't updated their sets in a while.

CBS O&Os Adopting "First Alert Weather" Branding
Kenneth Kissel replied to Georgie56's topic in The Weather Lab
Well, so much for my knowledge. I thought KDKA would stay the oddball but nope. You can put me in the book of bad takes. I Do like the new Weather graphics though. -
WTAE is switching up its weekday anchors in Early March. https://triblive.com/aande/movies-tv/tv-talk-janelle-hall-moves-to-mornings-on-wtae-as-part-of-shakeup/?fbclid=IwAR3ULZGoDVbizEAc_6BiilK-fXJasD2XGSNGdNY8CKynxY4XsEexehnFv84 Former 6 PM and 11 PM anchor Janelle Hall rejoins the morning team from 4:30 AM - 7 AM with Michelle Wright , Ryan Recker, Ashley Dougherty & Elena LaQuatra Noon Remains the same with Elena LaQuatra and Ashley Dougherty/Jeff Verszyla rotating 4 PM Remains the Same with Kelly Sasso, Andrew Stockey, and Jeff Verszyla 5 PM is still Shannon Perrine , Andrew Stockey and Mike Harvey 6 PM now has Kelly Sasso with Mike Clark and Mike Harvey Channel 4 did not announce who will anchor at 11 p.m. with Mike Clark but Shannon Perrine would seem like the logical fit in this reconfiguration but WTAE general manager Charles Wolfertz III offered a statement suggesting the position is open. Channel 4 also named Chandi Chapman the solo weekend evening anchor.

CBS O&Os Adopting "First Alert Weather" Branding
Kenneth Kissel replied to Georgie56's topic in The Weather Lab
I don't think KDKA-TV will use the First Alert Branding due to WPXI (owned by Cox) somewhat having First Alert as a secondary branding. WTAE (Hearst) has WeatherRate and WPXI currently has Severe Weather Team 11 as their primary branding. -
Let's be honest. If Breaking News or Severe Weather is happening in any market (I don't care what/where it is) I would rather see the main station air the Breaking News/Severe Weather and a sister station/ subchannel air the main Network programming for that day. Case closed. KDKA-TV (for example) aired all of the CBS programming on WPCW Friday due to the Bridge Collapse/President Biden being in town. It can be done right if every station puts it in their contract with supposed network.

CBS O&Os Adopting "First Alert Weather" Branding
Kenneth Kissel replied to Georgie56's topic in The Weather Lab
Here it is in action. -
Your probably right but ev1 else thinks the black and gold KDKA has is weird but it has grown on me for some reason. It just looks like the CBS oddball. I hope it stays that way.
-
Hopefully, we will see this graphics package transfer to the O&Os. I can't wait to see what the CBS eye could look like in the black and yellow KDKA-TV package. The New Streaming Station logos look good though. Here is CBS News Pittsburgh.

Tori is headed to Hearst Station WTAE in Pittsburgh on Feb 1st, a station who always has photographers with their reporters. BTW, she should sue WSAZ and Gray for this. https://www.post-gazette.com/ae/tv-radio/2022/01/12/tori-yorgey-wtae-tv-reporter-penn-state-philadelphia/stories/202201120128

Does Nexstar Really think they will be able to compete against the unbeatable WRAL and ABC O&O WTVD? If I were Nexstar, I would sell this station to CBS Already. Raleigh is a growing market and how poor this is proves that either Nexstar has given up or doesn't care. CBS could do so much better if this station was an O&O again.
