  1. WITN changed their slogan from "Most Watched, Most Trusted" to "First Alert" - what a terrible slogan for the station as a whole. Still using the same blue graphics package.
  2. I heard KTLA's chopper reporter mention a few times they were flying at 8000+ feet. I suspect they are a ways out and also up above all the fire activity.
  3. WRAL is currently flying N6TY, which was formerly assigned to KMOV. WRAL's own N553HD which has always been registered to Capitol Broadcasting is now registered to Helicopters, Inc. and hasn't flown since February. Word is that it is undergoing rehabbing. But either way, it does look like WRAL has sold their chopper and outsourced the service.
  4. Going to start calling duopolies "Soup Olives" now. That's an amazing autocorrect. WRDC is the ATSC3.0 lighthouse for Raleigh. Sinclair only has one ATSC1.0 station, WLFL.
  5. I’ve been watching WBAL today (I don’t have any reason otherwise to watch Baltimore news). WBAL is a really good news operation. Polished reporters and some veterans who I can tell still know the art.
  6. Regarding WBOC being dropped: Breezeline says it’s about not wanting to pay two affiliates. https://policyband.com/blog/spokesman--breezeline-dropped-cbs-affiliate-wboc-to-manage-costs Significantly Viewed does still exist but this is the reason most providers are dropping duplicate affiliates.
  7. They were in the parking lot of the sheriff’s office and it took the officers an hour and a half to get there? Either that’s an incredibly poorly written story or there’s an even bigger story to be done about Clayton County SO.
  8. Some of these are going to have a hell of a transition. Like KOSA.
  9. I just noticed that WITN has updated their bug and website to remove the peacock. Still using the same old turquoise/blue/whatever graphics package.
  10. Job hopping for more money. Just like anyone else. Historically they get 2 year contracts and keep moving up in market rank for career growth.
  11. That open reminds me a lot of the old Raycom package.
  12. FCC has no jurisdiction over what airs on cable channels.
  13. The Disney channels are back on Dish. That was a very short lived dispute by Dish standards.
  14. Only the eight O&O markets are affected as far as ABC.
  15. I've been a Dish subscriber for many years but I think I'm about done. IMO Dish is playing with fire here and getting a lot of customers that otherwise may have just stayed customers out of momentum to explore streaming services.
  16. WITN is launching a 3pm newscast called “ENC at Three” https://www.witn.com/2022/09/03/eastern-carolinas-only-3pm-show-brings-news-that-matters-you/
  17. I don’t get the hate for that old logo. It’s better than a generic 8.
  18. The blue and white floating/rotating squares remind me of the package WCTI used for 15+ years until Sinclair standardized them.
  19. The Gray looks are so bad that WVUE looks good in comparison. I watched them again recently when tornados came through NOLA. Those ancient Raycom graphics still look better than WBTV does after having been “Gray-ified.”
  20. WTVD hasn’t entirely abandoned this. The graphics are updated but they’ve still got the rapid speed city shots.
  21. I loved the KCBS early/mid-2000s look. I believe KCNC had it too. Probably my favorite music package as well. I’m not sure how I feel about KCBS using a soft lens on all the studio cams but it absolutely matched the graphics. I was also a fan of KTLA’s 1997-2004 look where everything was a weight of Franklin Gothic. It was simplistic but good. Blue accents at night and orange accents in the morning.
  22. Gray holds a trademark on the “First Alert Weather” branding. It was Raycom’s brand and Gray inherited it and that’s why so many Gray stations have switched to using it. I can’t think of a Gray/CBS overlap market but CBS must be paying Gray for this privilege. https://trademarks.justia.com/789/44/first-alert-78944371.html
  23. I’m watching the Tulane/Oklahoma game and the ABC bug is still the old logo. Promos for shows in the bottom right uses the new logo. The bug on the left is the old embossed logo.
  24. FTVLive reports that Christin Severance and Dan Haggerty are leaving KGW for WRAL. Dan will be an anchor. Wonder if David Crabtree is retiring (for real this time?) and Dan will be his replacement. Christin will join WRAL Investigates and the documentary unit.
  25. WITN/Greenville, NC has hired Star Derry from WTTV as their new chief meteorologist. She replaces Matt Engelbrecht who moved to South Bend and WNDU. https://www.witn.com/2021/05/10/meet-witns-new-chief-meteorologist-star-derry/
